67 dropping to low 60s and rain

So much devastation in Texas. There is so much talent and knowledge on TBN why can't they put it to good use? Continued prayers for those in Texas

About 60 outside this AM. In town for the w/e to maybe do the final farm work for the year. Unfortunate, wife is scheduled for extended hospital stay before the Christmas Holidays into the New Year. Proper planning, star alignment, voodoo, various sacrifices and the good lord has placed us together in the big apple at the same time. Sigh, February cannot come fast enough for us.

Heart goes out to the lower states. I hope the red-tape and bureaucracy for those in need can be palatable/manageable.

You all take care and enjoy the day, enjoy the weekend and be safe.

Ron, as soon as I saw the weights I knew they were wrong. Got them down to the barn on a pallet,
and sure enough, I have round tubes and these weights are the type that would go on my Kubota, expecting a flat
bar to mount on. I don't need them for the Kubota either...have the FEL with weight in it.

So....they will have to take them back and get the right ones. Shipping was serious on them, a losing sale for the dealer.
But I did throw in the bone that what I really needed was weights and tire fill for the rears, so they will make some money to
offset the shipping. Their fault, their loss, overeager salesman who did not ask enough questions to begin with.
Said with model number he could get exact weights. Well, no.
Maybe with the optional Massey weight bar which I did not want since I have a very nice
tall bull bar sort of thing on there now.

I am reminded that Mickey Mantle only hit what .350? Little better than one out of three.
This guy gets to strike out and stay on the team...but this will get the boss's attention.

62 degrees this morning. I always expect Labor Day to be HOT weather, so I'm certainly enjoying the cooler weather this year.

Good Morning! 86F @ 5:30AM. Sunny. Areas of smoke and haze are possible, reducing visibility at times. High 107F. Winds NW at 5 to 10 mph.

David, hope you're feeling better real soon!

If yer missin' the HOT Labor Day weather, Bird, com'on over. It'll be warm enough here to fry eggs on the dash through all next week.:fiery:

That sad story at the uniform shop will repeated thousands and thousands of times over the weeks to come, Don. It was very kind of you to try and help out. That's the spirit that will get Texans back on their feet, eventually.

This happened yesterday south of the Ponderosa fire, about 15 miles south of here. When people think of forest fires, images of towering flames and fire bombers usually spring to mind. What a lot of folks don't realize is that many times, the fires are actually stopped by lines put in by bulldozers. And those dozers have to get to the fire somehow. This one didn't quite make it, the driver had trouble negotiating a tight turn on one of the many small dirt roads in the area. Could have ended up a lot worse; in this case nobody was hurt. Here's a link to the rest of the Facebook album containing more photos of the accident, but not sure if if you have to join Facebook to see them: Dozer Accident: Ponderosa Fire | Facebook

Finally, a little sign of progress. The mechanic had the new engine up on a stand, and was in the process of making a trial assembly to make sure there's no chance of tangling the valve gear up with the pistons. Said he'd finish that over the long weekend, and a helper would get busy sticking on all the other bits to make it run starting next week. They'd also finished the fuel tank installation. We also ironed out some confusion on the connector to be used to hook up the radiator fans, and I ran for the parts to make it happen while I was in town. Small steps, but at least things are moving again.

TGIF gang!

The thing that I hope happens most, is that I hope that people who have given, helped or volunteered, get that special feeling of having helped someone in need. It is a powerful emotional feeling. Much better than any drug.

Even better, for every dollar donated for hurricane Harvey relief, WalMart will match it with two more. That is better than any drug, but I'm not sure it's better than Bourbon!

63°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 79° today. Drove through a brief shower on the way to work.

We are celebrating our 4 year wedding anniversary today, and 14 years being back together again. We typically go to the local winery were we were wed, but today The Wife decided we would join some friends at one of those "Painting with a Twist" couples art nights in South St. Louis County. Will definitely be something different. She was an art major in high school, so I know she'll enjoy it. We also usually try to attend the Japanese Festival held every year over Labor Day weekend at the Missouri Botanical Garden in STL city. Probably do that on Monday.

Also going to try to get in some golf at some point.

If you're having a three day weekend, enjoy it and be safe.

Went through the Flood of '93 in the STL area. Where I worked was about 1 foot above water level had the levee failed, building next door 1 foot below water level. Spent some time sandbagging near stepson's home, in Old Monroe, MO. 12 ft high wall. The water was a foot below the top of wall, and from the bottom you could see the guys working in boats from the bottom of the wall, SPOOKY
At peak flood, about 57% of St Charles County was under water, from either the Missouri or Mississippi Rivers.

We had major flooding in both '93 and '95 in the STL area. Different areas affected worse than others in each. Seems strange how neither the Mississippi nor the Missouri rivers ever move, yet flooding is rarely in the same areas. I remember that '93 flood especially well, as I was working for a local farmer at the time. He was grumbling early in the year about all the rain, and I teased him that come August he'll wish he had some of that rain. His reply was, "No, I don't think I've ever seen rain like this before." Turned out, of course, he was right. Flooding is simply a way of life when you live near a big river. Since we're at the confluence of the Mississippi, Missouri, and Illinois rivers, we get some manner of flooding around here pretty much every year. When I worked for an automotive headliner company in the Chesterfield valley near the airport, there was a water line painted on the wall around the shipping office as a reminder that the water was 8 feet deep in that building during that Great Flood of '93.
