I think the rain finally got over, around 8" since midnight, water and bullfrogs surrounding the house. It drains down the north side to a creekbed, but when everything is green it holds onto the water longer.

Didn't really plan on much today, but I did mow the lawn. The field doesn't need it, but I might mow some more of that bamboo tomorrow. I'm getting into an area that has a lot of depressions...some rather abrupt, so I'll continue to take it slow. This would be a good time for a box blade...might have to look around for a used one.

I did pick up that Ruger SR9C, finally. No chance to shoot it today. I'll try to get pictures for the forum tomorrow.

Our storm has passed, sun out again. We didn't get the system that toppop got, that came up the coast. We got a good rain.

Installed new fans in my sons laptop, before he takes it back to school. Fans were getting loud. Cut my finger on the case.

Watching Little League playoffs. Our team is down 7-0 already.

Kyle, Buckwheat works well here for getting rid of weeds. Till and plant it thick, it chokes out most any weed and is ready to till under in about 30 days. After a few days again and plant again. Kills weeds and builds veg matter in soil.

I haven't tried backing into the bamboo...
The bamboo is pretty tall...as tall as the tractor or more. I've been using the bucket to knock it down before the mower hits it. Most of the stalks are pulverized...some just knocked down.
I got started too late in the season to really clear this out...next year, I'll start much earlier (March or April).

I don't back into any brush. I've been raising the mower, backing up and mowing as I drive out. The full width roller would probably just knock the brush down and I wouldn't get as good a cut.

Good evening all. 73F this morning, partly cloudy, and light winds. Clouded up in the afternoon, wind stayed moderate and high temp was 90F. Strong thunderstorms moved through about 3:15 PM, and rain gauge was not in place . More showers have showed up, and 50% chance for more rain! Group bike ride this morning, left at 7, had up to 9 other riders together, 5 finished together to watch it rain at the restaurant.

Another line of heavy storms is moving in now, man! I dubbed this flood Lake Linda, my property is referred to locally as "Randy's Outback Game Preserve and Backyard Wikdlife Emporium", so named by my son in law and it caught on, now it has a temporary lake!

Well done on the CGC test Kekoa :thumbsup:

I also passed my exams yesterday - no medals, just a slip of paper to say a certificate will come in the post. After the last lot of legislation changes, the powers-that-be now accept I'm once again a fit person to apply chemicals from a knapsack or from a propelled machine. I will still keep on with organic weeding around ponds, as taught me by Ed, but now I can do something about the fence lines and those weeds that thrive on frequent cutting that have been laughing at me for the last year or more.

Last night I had intended sitting out after dark, in the hope of seeing a few meteors streak across the clear night sky, but then the moon came up above the horizon and gave out a beautiful orange glow that made the brightest stars pale into insignificance. The temperature dropped and the dog went crazy as the air was filled with the sound of explosions from the other side of the house. We went upstairs to look out and saw a huge firework display, which I guess was being launched from the grounds of a hotel a mile or so away. Someone was indulging in an expensive celebration which, like the Perseid meteors, was free for all to see, however, unlike nature's display, it included many loud bangs that I doubt would have been appreciated by those who had small children fast asleep in their beds.

67 high of 82 cloudy maybe a drop of rain or two not much more than that. Yesterday went by quickly watched reruns of Perry Mason last night then Matlock both good shows. Grass has grown a little probably not enough to mow. Wanted to watch for shooting stars ads well last night but cloud cover said no go

up too early, as are a few of us. Left foot still a little swollen and for sure itchy. I think it's better this morning and no
weird red streaks. Just like my foot is pressurized with too much fluid. I suppose if I put it up and iced it things would improve
in a hurry but that isn't going to happen.
when I get up early like this I should be out looking at stars with a mug of coffee instead of saying good morning here.
that isn't likely to happen either.

Hip Hip Hooray for Kekoa. Dog did very well after a seriously unsettling male experience.

All the heavy rains have gone North, dumped on Toppop, and missed here, though one gauge does say three inches of rain.
Must have come down in the night, not much during the day.

Speaking of buckwheat, I walked around my plot yesterday after the rain stopped and heard one of my many favorite sounds...hundreds of honey bees buzzing about. Some of the buckwheat is already making seeds, but much is still flowering. It handles drought pretty well. The sunflowers in the middle did not handles the dry spell very well...not even as tall as the buckwheat. Although in our garden, that I have watered everyday that it didn't rain, my tallest sunflower (different type - mammoth) is 11 ft, 9 inches tall as measured yesterday, and has not finished growing/bloomed yet.

70 going to 84, was still sprinkling when I went out earlier...looks like a good rain came in after midnight, over half an inch...usually that much wakes me, but slept right through it.

Too cloudy for the Perseids. Usually catch them every August.

Great news, Kekoa and Eric. Glad we don't have to take a test here for backpack sprayers, but maybe not a bad idea. I read and follow directions and wait for nearly windless days and have never used anything stronger that gly, but I'm sure many are not aware, and some even don't care about safety and proper application.

Kyle, I don't use gly around the garden either. This year I tried black landscape cloth between the rows, and seems to have worked well, although some of it is deteriorating now. The real test will be when I take it up...I expect many seeds will still sprout.

RNG - that chicken soup/stew sounds yummy. We are overrun with chiles in the garden right now and Myla is going to try several recipes today to use some...starting with jalapeno poppers and stuffed poblano. The Hatch Festival is September 2, so expect to see truckloads come into Wegman's soon after for their mini-Hatch festival.
