Hi all. Still muddling along on my wind turbine project in Abilene TX . Crews got behind so had to throw people and night shifts at it to complete by contract dates. I hate it. The 90-100 hours weeks aren't bad for me but with 100 people plus on site, and all that, the odds of getting someone hurt is constantly on my mind.
Told my company I wanted a nice easy slow project next. "Yeah noted. Throw Lenny into the next briar patch." Is what they said they wrote down on the project board. Something lost in translation!
No tractor time. Watching out for a post hole digger on Craigslist.
Picked up a couple new garage door springs at a Goodwill the other day for two bucks in the box. They will be for my trailer ramp lift assist project that's been on the list.
Had to work through a bad flu/pneumonia/cold for a couple weeks. Lost my voice for a day or two. That's hard on conference calls!
About another month. Weather has been relatively nice here in central Texas. My kids in Colorado and Vermont seem to be getting slammed in snow this season now.

Hope all is well. Did anybody ever hear anything on Ed?

Not much planned...got the snow and ice off the walks and some off the back deck. I'll continue on the back deck today...after that, putter time.

26 right now and the forecast is for a high of 41. I think we will make it. The back half of the roof unloaded last evening and half of the front. I gotta clean that up this fine morning, then it is off to drag the driveways and cut the ice down to gravel again. That will take up most of my day.

Coffee is brewing. 53° with rain this morning. Heading to 58° with more rain. It's been raining constant since yesterday noon. Lots of flood warnings out for all low roads. Going to stay in again today.

warmer 45 going up to 72 today, another nice day. Got all the major planting done, and then my helper said what about this hole? I had missed one, and got the whole order of pecans out of whack...sigh. Luckily I saw that Lowes just got in pecan trees, some of the same variety, so we are headed there first thing to buy one more pecan tree.

Lenny, don't show any pictures of you on top of that wind turbine, vertigo special for me. Do you still get up on top of those things? Be safe is right, long drop down...

just finished cooking sausage and making blueberry pancakes, ready for guest to wake up. I told him to sleep in.

Eric, do you live in English Kalifornia? Who ever heard of restrictions on cutting your shrubs? Are you interrupting the nesting habits of the Great Horned British owl, or something...? Curious as to how many rules and regs do you have on what you can and can't do there. Would you need a whole thread to yourself?...
You and RNG ought to compare notes, he has to have you beat.

One tree to plant today, then we mulch all the water retention rings, and then put wire cages around the trees. Three years ago when I planted my first apple tree, within one week a deer had come and rubbed against it, almost killing it. Why don't they rub on something else?? Not taking any chances with these nut trees, going to keep the cages on for the first year. Not sure we will stake the trees, really adds to mowing time trimming around all those stakes.

Root systems on pecans pretty skimpy, mostly a big tap root. Almond trees had wonderful roots, as did the English Walnuts. We really obsessed over getting those roots done properly, pushing with our hands, stepping on the whole thing multiple times, really packing it in. Layered fertilized bag dirt with the existing sandy soil, and then watered heavily with my water cart. Gosh that made things easier. Total we planted 27 trees yesterday, a very good day.

Seems deer rub on the trees you like best. They have hit most of my Christmas trees over the years. Wow, planting 27 trees using your great method is quite a job for one day. Speaking of great horned owls, there were a pair of them in the pines near my barn hooting back and forth like crazy at 3am...kept me awake so I went outside to listen better.

60 out this AM. After running around with the wife yesterday, still managed to avoid painting the barn spots, ended up under the sink for a drip on a faucet. Need to go back to the hardware store for some weird aze washer.... sigh....

It was amazing yesterday for the weather.

Unfortunate that during my AM dump run, my local sheriff ticketed me, in my own driveway for expired inspection stickers on my garbage scow. He was really adamant about farm use tags, and explaining to him that less than a month left on state tags makes no sense to get an inspection on a truck that will not pass. Sign here was all I heard.

Expensive dump run.

Cooked organic whole wheat and oatmeal pancakes using coconut oil. Added blueberries to all but 3 for my boy who likes cinnamon.

50 this morning and headed to 70 today.

Spent yesterday at the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville. Very nice stuff. Big show. Was looking for information on cattle scales. A lot more expensive than I thought they would be. Really am going to need more cows to justify the expense. Money better spent on replacement heifers. Did get to see the new M5, M6 and M7 Kubota's. Liked the cab layout on the M5-111 and the Case 100c best. Others seemed to put the loader joystick on as an afterthought. I put way too many hours on a loader to have one that's an afterthought.

miscounted, planted 28 trees today, mulched all the nut trees and got metal fences around at least half of them.
Even got my nice copper name tags on. Will take pics tomorrow.
