Good morning!!!!

42 going to 54. Reached 62 yesterday.

Randy, I need to learn your trick on how to yank a mole out of the ground. After having a couple of years with almost none, they have invaded this winter. I guess the 17-year cicada larva from 2013's infestation have gotten eatin' size. If I can't find a mole, I'll just shine a flashlight on Coco before light to make a shadow.

Finished taxes for a family LLC yesterday. First go at doing LLC taxes and K-1 forms. I'm not an owner, but manage everything. That "tax return on a postcard" idea sounds even better. Still working on my own taxes...hoping to get the last forms I need in the mail today.

Lookin4new, looked up North Bay on the map...you do live in Northern Ontario! Photos on google look real nice. Gas prices dropped 6 cents in town yesterday.

Looking like Super Bowl Sunday may bring us some snow.

Well, hoping my splitter will start up this morning without a fight. Straight grain red oak...I almost feel guilty using a splitter since it is so easy to split, so I'll take the maul to some of them, just to honor Riptides.

23 here going to 30's. Not enough snow to start the tractor. Shoveled the driveway instead.

21F mid 30's for high,1" snow fallen so far possible little over 3" when said and done.

8 hours at grind snow clean up after work pretty much sums it up for today.

Enjoy the day all.

I bet that will be paved quite nicely!
Will you be on your Kubota or using other equipment? The big stuff...

34 out this AM. When the sun comes up, it is to the maul I return. Thanks for the honor, wngsprd. I must say, the swinging time has improved my back, it's cutting and lifting the wood that hurts.

I got some more black walnut, and what looks to be hickory. I think the hickory is the stuff giving me issues, Cuts fine, splits, with immense difficulty.
I'll be looking at an electric splitter this week. I need turn key and go, I am done with gas/ethanol/oil mixing and carb work.

Have a great day all, be safe.

if I remember Riptides hickory is stringy, strong wood often with interesting colors inside. A log splitter really is the way to go.
Split the easy stuff by hand. The wood that goes pop when you hit it.

I am working on a project with another TBN member to design/build/install a hydraulic lift on my log splitter.
Still in discussion stage. Cheapest one with lift from Northern Tools is way out of budget, like five grand or some huge number.
My TSC 35 ton splitter works great, but those 24 inch rounds are just too much for me to wrestle with trying to get them lined up for
a vertical split. I need a lift, a good mechanical workaround. Maybe by next winter...if this project gets anywhere I'll take pics.

Drew, if you don't have too many huge rounds, use your FEL to lift them to the splitter. I load several in the bucket and roll them onto the splitter horizontal style. More cumbersome, but not needed too often. Otherwise, I have broken some into manageable sections vertically, then finished them horizontally.

Hickory is tough to split by hand, especially if allowed to dry out.

Good morning. We are having a warm spell. 12 and going to a high of 23. It is snowing out right now, nice fine powdery snow. No good for making snowballs or snow forts but the skiers will love it.

daugen; I keep my beard on year round. It makes good insulation against the heat. I already get mistaken for someone in their 50s. If I shave my beard and cut my hair would I pass for 20 again? I think not.
