Good morning!!!!

   / Good morning!!!! #47,381
way too long day Don, sorry you went through it.

I came in at 2pm and that's all I could do. 108 heat index.
Can't imagine what the colonists did living in this area without a/c.
I bet they smelled pretty bad...

Never did get back to the rototiller; spent time with helper doing roadside ditches, myself on the Gravely mowing light brush.
Helper starts tomorrow mowing the lawn; then I can work on the rototiller. And get the orchard sprayer filled. Lot of bugs, whole lot of bugs.

Hang in there Don. Tomorrow is bound to be better.

Wow Don, sorry to hear about Whipper. Coyotes?

The Vet said he has seen this type of injury before and it is most likely from from a hog. I saw Whip chasing something off the road and into the field as we were walking to the front gate, at first I thought it was a rabbit but then I thought it was too big, it probably was a piglet that led Whipper right to mama or daddy big angry hog. We saw her as we were walking back to the house walking very slow with a 4"x4" bloody piece of skin hanging off her belly. The flap had a puncture hole in it. The flap was torn from the back to the front.

So I'm standing in a ditch, knocking off fire ants, 100 degrees, 100 miles from home, looking at a blowout tire on my trailer, thinking of poor Whipper who was attacked by something having surgery and 60 stitches to patch up her belly thinking this kind of day is making Ed's tea by the pool look better and better.

Don Prayers sent for you both. If it is any help my days are spent moving stuff and fixing stuff and trying to learn how to take care of the pool. I keep hearing, O didn't someone tell you about that. Don not all days are like today. Take the day off tomorrow and spend some time with Whipper. Ed

Wild hogs are bad SOB's, we had a bunch of them in parts of Camden and Gates County, NC, even 45-50 years ago, in the areas in and around the Dismal Swamp. They killed hunting dogs sometimes, the dogs would usually win if the hog got separated, but if the pack stayed together, the dog could be in trouble. Watch those hogs when you're out there.
Good thoughts and prayers for all of you.

Coffee is done brewing. 61° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 88° with chance of thunderstorms in late afternoon. Doctors visit yesterday went well. No more bandages and keep the lifting below 10 lbs for at least another week. Made it this far. Walking and rest on the agenda today.
Txdon, hope Whipper had a good nights rest.
Kyle, also check out Ghostery.
Thomas, enjoy the sunrise.
Good Morning All.

We love our dogs but sometimes they are fearless and not very sensible.
If anyone wonders why folks need to carry a gun, geez Don's got wild hogs, snakes, coyotes and who knows what else is roaming around. I moan about my invasive species weeds and the XX%%$$## deer who went through my berry patch two nights ago and stripped off every leaf, just like they did to the neighboring rose garden. But I don't worry about things that want a piece of me...Though bears have been sighted again and unlike a dog if I see a little animal I immediately think "where's Momma?".

I hope Whipper recovers quickly. Really sad to see a nice dog like that get hurt. But I bet he felt he was protecting the homestead and dogs go in harm's way.

Inch and a half of rain last night, as they predicted. Must have been a slow mover going over. Well at least that means the veggie garden is watered. Big day this morning, I let someone else drive my mowing equipment.
Sure curious as to how that will work out.

Very hot week, temps in the high nineties each day. Must be seriously hot out West...

Thomas, it was a nice sunrise here for a few minutes, then too many clouds...probably get rain as the temps jump from 72 to 92.

Started on the 800/900 hour maintenance on my tractor (started doing the 900 hr, and realized I had a few of "every one year," and "every two year" things to do. Got the lube done, and the oil and filter and front axle case oil changed. The manual said the front axle capacity is 6.9 quarts, but I only got about 4 quarts in before it started overflowing from the check plug...and that was after stopping the fill process several times to let the fluid settle and the air out. Don't remember that problem last time.

Ron, good news on your surgery recovery.

It's the open pit stuff all the VFW's, Boy Scouts and such, sell on the side of the road on weekends and holidays. And yes, fresh roadkill would work fine!

OK, We just call it barbecue chicken. Lot of it where we just moved from, in rockingham county Va poultry is huge and a ride to to most small towns will take you past 2 or 3 groups selling barbecue chicken halves. Ed
