Summer is here, hit 90° yesterday with 35% humidity, not terrible, but the notice is sent. 90% chance of subtropical formation off the southeastern coast within 48 hours, but actual landfall timing is unofficial, although that hasn't stopped a bunch of the fringe sites from predicting.

Good morning,

72 cloudy, will only get to 76 today with in and out rain.

Dr. apt at 9:45 to get biopsies on these marks then grand-son this afternoon and night.Think I will give him a ride on the lift.

RS I was just saying how it is around here. We got good neighbors and others that would shoot you as easy as look at you. A 15 ton skidder is nothing to what these farmers use and a pipe line should take way more than that if in the ground the right depth. I would doubt they are just a few feet deep anywhere. For sure not around here and in the video they drilled into it. It did not blow from driving over it. Skidder tires and large and wide to reduce soil compaction so they don't put that much pressure down even loaded. Part of forest management requirements. So I would not be worried about that unless your pipes are only a foot under ground. I worked on log skidder engineering development in the late 70s and early 80s on Cat 518 & 528 models built at Aurora at the time. So I got a clue when it comes to skidders.. I don't like clear cutting wood but a lot do it. Seems to me select cut is much better. But like so much,,it is about the money$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

73.5F and partly sunny @ 09:30 ... local station is calling for a high of 85F for the day, which is about 13F above normal ... but it should be good for drying things out.

Probably work some on clearing the mat of roots in the circle before it gets real warm and then get in some seat time working the garden area and trail with the box blade. Then a trip down to the steel supplier to pick up the square tube for the soil screen.

Day before yesterday it was kinda warm in the house when The Woman got home so she turned on the AC for the first time this year. Guess she didn't appreciate having the windows open and being serenaded by the frogs when she went to bed the night before ...

Hope all the Texicans are ok and doing well ... sounds like they really got hammered. With the way it's going that place could end up turning into a rain forest.

Kyle,

Glad to hear things went well for your Mom.

Good Morning! 59F @ 6:45AM. Sunny. High 86F. Winds NW at 10 to 15 mph.

WNG, I'm on my second hub on a Kubota L3240. Just plain under designed, not up to taking the loads seen in normal service.

The K-bike still refused to start even with new gas, until I pulled a plug, found it wet, then hit the starter to check for spark. Sparked good, good enough to fire up on the other three cylinders. :censored: I think of it as a parting shot.

Off to a motorcycle rally south of here, three days of fun and sun. And hopefully a little sales action, too. Everything's running and loaded on the trailer, hope none of it comes back.

Have a great weekend everyone!

RS, speaking of loggers, I think a crew is working just down the canyon, maybe doing something for the marina. I can hear a dozer, several chain saws, a big chipper, and a few heavy trucks. They've been at it all week, disturbing the usual peace and quiet
Yeah ... but whatcha gonna do ?

That kinda thing doesn't really bother me much ... of course, if it was constant/continual it might be a different story.

But I'm not in as a rural an area as you are either.

I'm far more concerned about things like our city council and mayor passing an ordinance that one can't mow grass after 20:00 ...

Still tryin' to find that one on the books ...

back from retrieving my travel trailer from the rv camp, no problems, though hooking up the equalizing hitch is a bit of a pain. Had to hog up two lanes to make a right on the main road and thankfully a truck behind me blocked traffic for me. I'm pulling about 7000 pounds and the truck has no problems with it. Probably time to dump a can of Sea Foam in there since it's working so hard. Like a bone for a dog...;)

rain is forecast for 8 straight days starting tomorrow. Once the TT is set up, it's back to mowing. Still have to trim around the house. Might lose a pound doing that...lot of walking. I really should get a pedometer and see what I do here each day.
any recommendations on a basic one? I don't need Fitbit or anything read by a smart phone since I don't have one.
Basic...just how many miles since last reset

Yeah ... same story all over ain't it ? :D

A 15 ton skidder is nothing to what these farmers use and a pipe line should take way more than that if in the ground the right depth. I would doubt they are just a few feet deep anywhere.
I've seen it with my own eyes - when they replaced the valve right near where they were running the skidder ...

I was standing next to the crew that replaced it and it was not all that deep.

In fact, they left the old valve on my property:

IMG_1362.jpg

And the depth was confirmed by the guy from the gas company.

For sure not around here and in the video they drilled into it. It did not blow from driving over it. Skidder tires and large and wide to reduce soil compaction so they don't put that much pressure down even loaded. Part of forest management requirements. So I would not be worried about that unless your pipes are only a foot under ground.
The ruts - in the wet ground - from the skidder that I've personally observed are at least a foot deep ... easy.

The guy from the gas company - and one of the loggers - both claimed that they 2' deep in spots.

I worked on log skidder engineering development in the late 70s and early 80s on Cat 518 & 528 models built at Aurora at the time. So I got a clue when it comes to skidders.
Don't doubt it in the least.

However, you are not here personally observing the conditions on the ground.

And your assumptions about how deep a line should/might be buried are just that: assumptions.

I don't like clear cutting wood but a lot do it. Seems to me select cut is much better. But like so much,,it is about the money$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Yup ... that's exactly what it's about.

Unfortunately, greed overrode any and all considerations about the safety of others ...

After all, the property owner himself wasn't going to be here onsite while they were doing the work ... so why worry, right ?

RS, I hope you got to keep that valve. Looks heavy as heck and would get a few bucks for sure at the salvage yard.

One of these days I'm going to load my pile of assorted metal scrap and take it to the dump. I found part of an old disc harrow minus
the discs and other parts rusting in the woods here, it's the bottom of my pile. All steel or iron. I can't think of anything aluminum I throw away/try to recycle
other than aluminum foil used in the kitchen.

One of my avid recycling friends hopes there really is a Pearly Gate and when one passes through it one will be shown the enormous pile of trash one has been responsible for dumping on this earth, thousands and thousands and thousands of plastic trash bags full of life's packaging and waste.
Most of us are smarter now, and make the effort, to whatever degree the local facilities permit, but then there's the easy way.
Just drive by and throw that McDonald's bag on my lawn friend, where it rolls and flings its pieces out in a line for ten feet which is what greeted me this morning.
I think the flingee needs to be recycled.

Drew,

Yup ... I scrapped it.

Was pretty heavy.

good morning all. 64F windy and rain .6 in when emptied this morning. I think I am done with rain except for afternoon popups till Sunday or Monday. Being north of Dallas, I have not had a fraction of the rain Kyle has had. More consulting and get bike tuned up for Fault line ride in June on TMA list.

Hope you have a special day together. You deserve it!

Thanks, We had a wonderful time. Went out and ate breakfast and got a few things and then furniture shopping. We got everything we need for the new house and love it all. Hate to think what we paid but if you have a living room you ought to have some things in there to sit on. Our old bed was bad long ago and we just kept on using it so we got a new mattress and a wooden bed to go with it. Ended up eating lunch at 3:30 because it took so long. The salesman was great and was a joy to work with. Great day, Ed

75.7F and clear outside @ 22:00 ... have to admit that AC sure does feel good. High hit 85 or 86, depending on who ya believe.

Ran the rake over the garden area for a little bit and then ran down picked up steel for the soil screen.

After I got back I put the box blade on and installed the scarifiers (with the new tips !) and spent the spent the rest of the afternoon ripping out roots in the garden area. Wound up getting a chit-load of 'em too.

Calling for a high of 87F tomorrow, with a 50% chance of a thunderstorm around 14:00 or 15:00 and then again around 20:00 or 21:00.

Another 6 or 8 hours of higher temps with a little sun and most of the lower part of the garden area should be in decent shape. Just need to run over it and get it compacted before it rains, otherwise it will be a mess.

Going to go figure out the rest of the cut list for the screener and then go unload the steel.

Good morning. No wind this morning. Makes a pleasant change as even a medieval archer, captured by the French, would be able to count the number of still days this year on the fingers of one hand.

Yesterday evening a friend asked me to do a bit of soldering on his tractor diesel tank. His Ferguson was rebuilt a while back and they didn't get the tank mounting pads all level, causing it to split. Up ended the tank after soldering and left it with diesel in. 10 minutes later there was a dark patch on the floor - another hairline crack underneath that we hadn't seen before. It was dark by the time we finished, although it seems to be holding for now as I got a text to say it's still dry this morning.

Another little repair job today, on my waders, which at the moment are letting water flood in. I used the air line to pump them up slightly to see where the leaks were. Now I'm wishing I had bought a bigger tube of seam sealant.

Good Morning All. 62 here this morning going to 89 and NO chance of rain. Going to take it easy for a bit today. With the new mattress we bought yesterday they said we need a center leg on the frame. We are putting it on our metal frame bed until we move so I have to brace up the center. Will likely use wood blocks but all 3 of my saws are in the storage unit 30 min away. Will try to figure out something. Looking forward to having a comfortable mattress with no annoying bumps that try to change the shape of my rib cage.

Eric Hope you "little Dutch Boy" work goes well. I assume you have the story of the little Dutch boy who saved the day when he stopped a leak in the dike with his finger. Please explain the medieval archer, I know I am missing something.

Rswyan Sounds like fun making all of the equipment you make.

Texas guys, Sounds like you all need to borrow Eric's waders, stay safe and stay dry.

Have a greart day everyone. Ed

Coffee has finished brewing. 59° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 84° with thunderstorms in afternoon. Son and grandson are stopping by to help finish mulch and put cover on motorhome.
Good Morning All.

65 going to 90 again.

Drew, the tropical depression looks to be headed to Emerald Isle and Cape Lookout by Wednesday...forgot when you are planning to go. For a pedometer, I use a Fitbit...you don't have to have a Smartphone, although the app is really nice. You can sync your steps to your laptop, or tablet, if it has a USB. What I like about it that is it lightweight on the wrist - I forget I have it on, it is very accurate compared to a couple of other devices I used, and it measures your sleep patterns. Having friends in your "group" to compete with is also a nice feature.

Hope you guys in Texas can dry out now.

Got my spaying done yesterday...mixed up 50 gallons of gly at 2% and had about 10 gallons left when I finished the foodplots...so drained it into empty 2.5 gallon containers, and used up half so far in my 2.5 gallon hand held sprayer by walking around and attacking poison ivy and fence line weeds.

Eric, like your new avatar...is that your alien mass in the FEL?
