I'm afraid a lot of fruit trees are going to be damaged by this and local weather mentions snow showers for Friday night into Saturday. Tennessee is especially vulnerable now with blooms and below freezing temperatures

Good morning all, Hope you have a great day. 23 here at 6 am and going to 55 today.

Roy glad you are feeling better.

RNG I had a buddy that had a VW camper and the put a, I think, rabbit engine in it. I know you have bigger plans but I thought his idea was interesting. He put the engine in and it bolted right up. He ran the hoses for the radiator to the front and set the radiator on the front bumper. Had the fill cap in the vents in the upper rear of the van, that way he could bleed the air out of the system. It worked well, had more power and was reliable.

I am hoping I do today better than yesterday. We took my brother in law to the Dr one day early, O well, practice makes perfect. Still hoping for that nap too. I am beginning to think that you have to sneak up on them to be able to catch one.

You all have a great day. Ed

all this talk of fruit trees has me nervous, lot of mine are flowering right now. Hope I don't go out and find a sea of white on the ground. However, I did find some nice peaches already starting to create fruit.
26 degrees outside, going up, little nippy for outside chores this morning. Going to work on fixing some machinery once it warms up.

registered the travel trailer yesterday, ouch, $1124 to get out of there with a plate. 3% use tax plus a series of other taxes collected

49 this morning and headed to 67 today. Rain starts about noon.

Have a tractor to unload. After dark when I got home and a bad battery. But first I think I'm going to try and beat the rain. By getting some fertilizer on the pastures. Litter for hay ground and Urea for pastures this year.

KevT. I also noticed grass seed was up. But not enough to stop me from reseeding. What kind are you looking at? I use a mix of KY31 Fescue, Perineal Ryegrass, Orchard Grass and then clovers. Almost triple last year though. And cattle are down 35%.

Good afternoon, it's typical April showers for us today and a stiff breeze that makes inside work seem quite attractive.

Drew, I do apologise, but I couldn't help having a chuckle when you told us about your new barbed wire coiling machine. Heard of similar things happening with hedge cutting flails and long lengths of previously invisible barbed wire getting dragged in within seconds. Some unlucky ones have had fence posts snap off and come visit them in the cab. Why do you need gloves ? - you must have a high pain threshold to be able to pay all that trailer tax

Good morning! 61˚ cloudy, heading to 77˚ and sunny. The wind will shift from the north cooling us ten degrees. Tree pollen is high, woke up sneezing, but sleeping with windows open is nice.

The cattle guard got it's third coat and is ready for it's space shuttle move with two tractors when little brother comes down Friday. (Pictures will be avalible Sat.) I still need to move a set of corner post to the right ten feet to widen the entrance. I'll be putting the CG behind an old abondoned RR track rise so there will only be tractor digging to level the ground for the 15" tall by 18' beams. There will be many trips to the gravel stockpiled on the RR track to gradually raise the entrance road to the level of the CG.

Roy glad you are felling almost back to normal.
Drew does your state also reqire a yearly registration fee for a licenses plate?

Poured first cup of coffee. 70° with mostly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 95° with partly cloudy skies. Good day to not do much and enjoy the warm weather.
Good Morning All.

RNG, you are making the powerplant too complicated. A nice small block crate motor, tame, 300hp/400 torque down low. Pick a brand
but I'd sure start with a GM...couldn't be too hard to get that in that Vanagon, up front where it belongs.
So what if it sits up a bit between you two.
You could build a small table on top...
Oh, and add a couple of electric motors and get a grant to pay for it all.

That line is the best part!:laughing::laughing::laughing:

For the first time ever I have managed to grow an amaryllis outdoors, three in fact seem to be blooming out of about ten plants i had collected over a dozen years.
All those years of watering those droopy green leaves and they produced nothing. So they got tough love, and planted outside in a sheltered spot, and ta da
they seem to be doing ok. Not sure what 30 degrees is going to do to this plant though. Nothing good...

Beautiful, Drew. The deer around here would find them mighty tasty.

Had another talk with the builder yesterday, Ed. He starts with a 4WD verson of the Vanagon, which those in the know call the Synchro. Apparently not many were ever made, and fewer still imported to the US, so they're sort of becoming collector items. Probably never reach the status of the vaunted Window Van, but the potential is there. The Vanagon setup is already water cooled, and it is apparently a very straight forward procedure to pipe in the Subaru engine. The Subaru parts add some power, but the main draw is reliability. I suppose it's a good thing to have in combination with 4WD to avoid an expensive tow bill.

38F and sunny @ 09:00 ... but the rain is only a couple hours west of us. High should get up to near 60F today.

More grapple fab on the menu today.

RNG,

A friend of mine had VW Vanagon (1980's vintage) that he put around 800K miles on before he finally got rid of it about 10 years ago. I think he was on his 3rd motor, but the body/chassis was still in good shape.

No worries on the weather ... enjoy it if ya got it :D

Drew,

Nice looking flowers ...

The only thing we have here blooming at the moment are daffodils ...

Highway robbery on the trailer reg tho' ... :(

Roy,

Good to hear you're feeling better.

Good Morning! 67F and it's only 6:15AM. Sunny. Near record high temperatures. High 87F. Winds NNW at 5 to 10 mph.

Glad you're feeling better, Roy. Hope they don't overwhelm you on your first day back on the job!

Was able to activate the new iPhone on the Verizon network yesterday, but to my surprise and disappointment, there's no sign of 4G LTE reception. This in spite of the latest Verizon coverage map, and assurances from the sales staff. Guess I'll be back on the phone (the land line phone) to them today...

News on the truck is that the power steering pump is shot, and the water pump is leaking, too. The power steering pump has been growling for a while now, so that really doesn't come as much of a surprise, but I hadn't noticed anything dripping from the water pump. The two of them are still less expensive than a new air conditioning compressor, which was my guess. Won't know for sure until it's back together, so I'm keepin' my fingers crossed it's not something else.

Got a call from FedEx yesterday saying they would be by today to deliver the flail mower. They said that their trucks are not allowed to go on dirt roads, so I'll have to meet them up at the cul-de-sac with the tractor, which is conveniently already wearing the forklift attachment I've been using to move firewood pallets. All the rain we got last month wore some pretty good ruts in the driveway, so I got after it with the box blade in preparation for the delivery. Smoothed up pretty nice, and cleared out some weeds along the border, too. Then I decided to go after the little trail that goes up to the back of the house and the fire pit. There's a short section that is badly off camber, and that the Kubota side-by-side had made worse. Tipped the box blade to one side and got most of it flat, the price being a drop off along the edge next to the area where I park the tractor implements. This also cleaned off the gravel that used to cover that area, so I'll probably have to truck more in later.

As I was finishing up that little job I noticed that I could no longer move the loader arms or curl the forks. Oh great; the flail will be delivered tomorrow and now there's no way to get it off the truck. Parked the tractor, stuck my head in behind the right wheel trying to look at the linkage, only getting dirt in my eye as a reward. Got the garden hose out and cleaned all the dust off down there, then headed inside to peruse the workshop manual for insights. Tons of info on rebuilding the valve body, but nothing on how the control lever linkage works. Called my bulldozer buddy but only got his answering machine, then went back out for another look. That's when I noticed a short little lever sticking out of the console next to the loader control lever, and a sticker next to it with one closed padlock symbol and another open padlock symbol. Hmmm, never noticed that before, and the lever is sort of next to the closed padlock. With nothing to lose, I tried to move the lever to the open padlock, but it didn't want to go. Had to use a hammer handle to push it up to the open padlock detent. But once there, the loader control lever started working again. :duh: :duh: :duh: :duh: So it's a loader lock, but why would anyone trust something like that to actually work when the consequences of it failing could be a mashed toe or worse? Seems to me like a solution to a non-existent problem. It is, however, yet another nail in the Kubota coffin...

Happy Hump Day everyone!

25° this morning, near 50° now, low 60's maybe today. One more cold snap this weekend, then hopefully spring. Peach trees here bloomed early due to the mild winter, several orchards are using helicopters to stir the air and raise temps a couple of degrees, still might have major losses.

Good rainy and gloomy morning here guys,

Got some kind of crud hanging on to me, no wonder with this up and down weather. Cat is staring me down to get some food again. Guess I had better give in and get him something to eat. Sounds like I will have the grand-daughter tomorrow and the grand-son on Friday that will keep me moving.
Glad your doing better Roy, take it slow.

I think the loader lock is there to keep you from bumping the joystick, and potentially dropping something. I suspect all newer tractors have it.

Cold, miserable day. It is sleet, off and on, about 36 degrees. Need to work in the shop today. I saw a 6 or 7 deer out back this morning. About a 100 yards away, they just look at me and the dogs. Not really afraid!

Correct, I think all newer tractors have one. I use mine to keep the grand-son from wearing out the joy stick linkage when he is sitting on the machine playing tractor driver..
