Let's see if we can troubleshoot it for her.

First, Roy what is the model of your JD ZTR and second do you have any idea what could be going on. I'm leaning to a faulty blade engaging switch. Is the knob you pull up electronic? Any way to check it? Any other thoughts? OK some twilight zone things are going through my mind, but I think we can find mechanical solution.

Sounds like the PTO switch is going bad...I had the same problem last year. Eventually, it won't engage the blades at all.
It's not an expensive repair, if you can do the work. IIRC, the switch itself is only about 20 bucks.
Should be three torx tip screws and one bolt to remove the instrument panel. The switch has two clips to depress and then push it out through the hole (after disconnecting the wire bundle.

Good morning. The clouds parted last night, giving me chance to try out the Skyview app as recommended by David. It was very easy and impressive to use, even with the moon being so bright that it left only a handful of stars visible.

Finally worked out how to have some time left in the day to do the things I want. Simple really, don't know why I didn't think of this before - just start with what you want to do first and then it's the other stuff that gets put off :)
So, after the essentials of feeding, watering and checking on livestock, it was time to get out the welder. I can put up some pictures on the welding forum when I get chance, if anyone wants to see how difficult I'm finding it. Probably a classic case of how hard it is to teach an old dog new tricks, but I enjoyed it and raring to have another go. Best of all, my wife wants me to learn, so I can make some brackets to hold together the timber for some more raised beds (I said I couldn't buy any the right size, so have to make them - true, though I didn't look that hard ... ;) )

How about opening the door for the golden to come in and the sweet smell of skunk comes in with her then chasing her down to get her back outside now you and everybody else is wide awake

32 and frosty, going to 65.

Great orange moonset this morning, now nice purple sky.

Didn't have any skunks around last night, but a raccoon is back to raiding my sunflower bird seed can on the porch each night.

39.7F and overcast @ 14:00 ... but now sunny @ 14:08 ...

The Woman and I got the last of the tile on the shower ceiling removed yesterday, removed some of the drywall on the outside of the shower, cleaned up all the debris, and got about 1/2 the linoleum taken up. Also bagged up a large bag of blown-in cellulose insulation that had fallen down into the area above the stairs to the basement ... still have fiberglass batts and more blown-in insulation to remove from there.

There is room over the stairs to the basement to expand the shower and install a seat, so thinking about doing that.

Orange cat got another dose of hairball medicine.

Need to disassemble the air pump today and adjust the diaphram, as it's making a racket.
We had an orange long haired Maine Coon that had bad hairball issues, we used a product called Cadillax (sp), it worked extremely well and he loved it, smelled like licorice. I never tried it myself...:D

Hopefully Roy is correct, but it could be the clutch its self if it's a typical electromagnetic clutch.

27 degrees in Lederach PA, outside of Harleysville but zooming up 30 degrees to 57 today. The cold dropped all the way down to NC; I see it is 32 at home. But warming up.

Having a Keurig coffee and a sticky bun (yes, I feel guilty eating it...) and then off to Wawa to buy hoagies and food for the trailer, and then on to the dealer and get the transaction done. Then I hope to spend all afternoon cleaning and getting things put away. I brought a dvd to watch a movie tonight and my first bag of popcorn. All by myself in a crowded rv store parking lot; the ambience might leave something to be desired, but all I care is they set me up facing out so I can leave early tomorrow morning. With it only being just over 8 hours here, I'm likely to make the run in one day but have all the info on where to stop if need be. I need to do some shopping in their rv store, power cord extension, longer dump hose, a few things but much I have left over from before. All the kitchen shelves get covered with rubber nonskid and I brought lots of old towels to stuff in places where loose stuff shouldn't be rattling around. Same thing as on a boat, one has to "stow".

This part of PA is very pretty. West and North of Philadelphia, predominately Mennonite, the properties are immaculate if modest. Many of the farms have been developed, as were the ones where I grew up in extreme Eastern PA. I haven't seen one bit of trash anywhere along the roads...wow what a difference from the slobs who live near me in NC...my front street ditch is their personal trash bucket.
Very different view on life... This area in PA is about halfway out to the Amish; the continuum of Quakers to the East, Mennonites in the middle and Amish further West in Lancaster. Curious that the three "peace religions" all lined up in PA. Interesting that the more liberal Quakers stayed in Philadelphia, the more conservative farming oriented Mennonites and Amish moved further West to get farm land. Of course there was a huge Quaker migration both West and South, and many stayed in Indiana and Ohio. These were the more "conservative" Bible-centric Quakers that believe in sin and salvation(let's NOT go there...) and they are now the largest group of all.

ok, back to tractors. One three point gizmo i don't have and will be researching today, I'm sure TSC has a perfectly good inexpensive one, is a ball hitch for the tractor so I can tow the trailer on my property. Am still trying to see if I can put it somewhere back by the barn where it won't be too ugly.
I don't think so, hard to disguise these things and I really like seeing my red and white barns back there, and trees. Of course, having a trailer, or two, or three, and the last seven cars and trucks owned in one's lawn would make me fit right in...;)

y'all have a good day

We have a JD Z820 A Zero-turn. Several things will keep blades from running.

1. If foot brake is set, blades stop.

2. If you get off seat, blades stop.

First thing I would try is sit on seat, start engine, release foot brake, lift up on yellow switch to engage blades. If blades do not engage push switch down then back up. These switches can go bad but, not overnight. Mine is touchy and sometime I have just brushed with my arm and it disengages.

Brings back fond memories of walking through clouds of ammonia, I think @ Tenneco, during a shutdown ...

Then there was that vessel @ Oxirane, with the tar-like substance on the bottom whose fumes could penetrate your skin that we had to clean out ... fresh air masks and rain gear taped up at every opening.

That plant made food preservatives IIRC.

Ammonia is bad stuff. Sounds like you had your share of the "world's worst jobs"...or whatever that show was called.

I was thinking seat switch, but they are not prone to go bad.

Don, the tree removal price will depend on who's the remover. If it is you, then I'd say it'll cost you a bit of diesel, chainsaw gas, some chain sharpening time and a lot of whipper picking up sticks. If a hired company comes, I would offer them $400 max, but I guess that depends on if you don't mind the thing falling on your pavers. I guess it could possibly upset a few of them if it hit just right.

41 this morning and headed to 67 today. Winds of 20-30 mph. Gusts over 40. Drew you might want to stay ahead of these winds.

Have a mouse that decided to die in our laundry room. Wife can't go in there currently. So I need to find that today as well as open some windows and get the smell out. Looked yesterday and couldn't find it.

Then off to town to pay some bills and back to put out hay and wash on the chicken coops. Wife has a masters class tonight so I have to quit early to watch the boy.

Good morning! 57˚ clear, beautiful spring day.

Roy and other thanks for the suggestions on the JD Z, I'm going to try and go over tonight and troubleshoot it with the switch first on the list.
Most of you'all were pretty closs on the tree removal estimate. To cut it down, so it would not land on the pavers, into grapple carring pieces, $550. Same price for the one next to the barn where he will have to use his boom since the large limbs overhang on the barn.

Roy (and anyone else can chime in) I need your help. A TBN widow, Bernice, (mikim's wife), has a John Deere ZTR mower just like yours Roy. I had it a short time, but because I had two ZTRs I sold it to Mike. As you remember when Mike was changing the blades it fell on him, killing him. Bernice text me tonight and still has the JD ZTR and was trying to mow with it but after a short time 1 to 10 minutes while it is running with the blades engage then they suddenly disengage the mower is still running fine. The knob to turn the blades on is still up. The belts are all connected.

Let's see if we can troubleshoot it for her.

JD uses an electric clutch to engage blades. I would check seat switch first. I have found a blown fuse had stopped one mowers blades from being engaged. There is also a switch on the brake pedal. Also check the yellow blade knob/switch.

Good Morning All.

Good Morning. 0750, sunny, 36F with 99% humidity. Forecast high of 73F with no chance of rain today, and a low of 44F tonight. We had a pretty good frost this morning {34F when I got up}. Spotty in places, but thick in others. I was out at 0600 running the sprinklers in the garden, getting it washed off the young plants before the sunshine hit them. Hope to save most of them.

Drew, don't forget to batten down the hatches before you get underway:confused2:

Don, if you work on that mower, be careful. Christine comes to mind.

You guys have a good one,

Larro

34 degrees this morning, forecast for 68 this afternoon. Wind finally dropped off.

Houston Livestock Show finished yesterday, was a long three weeks of many hours and not much sleep.

Relaxing this morning waiting for New EA Grapple 73" to be delivered this afternoon by SE Freight lines. Bought for my LS XR4046HC so I can get into some places the NH TL100A and 84" HD grapple can't get to.

New grapple arrived yesterday afternoon.

Got QD's installed and ready to work today.

47 degrees and forecast to 73 this afternoon. Wild flowers really coming on now.
