24F @ 08:30 ... winds are out of the northwest so we have lake effect snow - which is coming down pretty good right at this moment, although the sun is trying to peek through. Highs only in the 20's for the next couple of days and then back up into the mid 40's by Friday.

Probably take a trip into the commercial property today to check up on things.

Oh, I can see the serrated teeth on that true temper thing could leave similar marks, but no, that's not it, nor is it anything like the other two either.

Good Morning. 0925, sunny, 48F with 65% humidity. Forecast high of 56F with no chance of rain today, and a low of 33F tonight. We should see our 5th and 6th frost of the year the next two mornings. There was a little rain last night, but not enough to get my shoes wet when I went for my moonless walk around the pond after supper. {I did camp}

I will putter around outside as much as possible today. Most likely will start with mixing up Darro Dirt for the garden. After 6 days off, it will be good to get back to work tonight. {not to mention it is payday}

You guys have a good one,

Larro

Don a lot around here have problems with the black buzzards killing calves before they can standup or the cows while calving. Some even report they are chasing weak or older cows to death. They're reporting them to fish & game in Atlanta. But the Feds aren't believing that they are a problem. Nor do they believe the population numbers. Federally protected birds.

Our farm bureau did secure some tags. But they have a lot of stipulations on them. Don't know how many bothered with the tags.

The father of one of my friends was hired to trap and relocate buzzards. They were eating the afterbirth hanging from the mother cows, the bites were becoming infected and cows were dying. Of course the farmer didn't care about relocation. He was paying for buzzards to be gone, so my friend's father killed over a hundred of them. He did trap a few, just to keep the federal paper trail going.

We have elk in Maryland and you should too there in western VA. They were native all the way down the Blue Ridge, though low in numbers and rare over the last 150 years.
Low 30's and staying that way, clouds and sun with strong NW wind and flurries.

Good Morning, and a late Happy New Year! Periods of rain. High 49F. Winds SE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 100%. Rainfall around a quarter of an inch.

Glad to see you all enjoyed a nice bit of time off with your family and friends.

Did ya miss me? Oh, didn't even notice I was gone? :laughing: Took a little trip down south for New Years to meet with 60 of my best friends out in the Anza Borrego Desert at a little place called Agua Caliente Springs.

Our little camp in the group area is in the foreground, nestled into the hills on a state run park complete with running hot water, great showers, and a pool fed by a natural hot spring. Took two days to get down there, skirting the foothills in the Sierra Nevada mountains and seeing more snow on the ground than I cared to, but arriving safely on New Years Eve. The meals were prepared by three of our club members, and the first was tri-tip with fresh veggies, ranch beans, and a great spinach salad. A fourth member carted in several small kegs of his home brewed beer, and others brought various desserts and treats, so there was no shortage of food. All of the meals were excellent, the best I've had at any large event and even in most good restaurants. I was worried my riding gear wouldn't fit when it came time to leave.

The atmosphere was very casual with a dash of eccentricity thrown in for good measure:laughing:. Most rode their air cooled BMW motorcycles there, and we enjoyed nice rides during the day to near by historic sites, followed by serious bench racing and trip tails each evening around the roaring camp fire (that U-Haul trailer was stacked with oak a couple feet over the rails when it arrived!).

There was no Internet service at the site, but by Saturday the weather rumors were for rains to return by Monday, so a long dash up I-5 got me home yesterday. The winds were quite strong coming down off The Grapevine section, enough to uproot huge tumbleweeds and toss them across the freeway. Some were bigger than the cars, and it was quite entertaining to watch all the dodging and swerving going on. Aside from that, both legs of the trip went by uneventfully, with the bike not skipping a beat or needing any attention more than a pint of oil (the new rings are still seating) and feeding the fuel tank. Man, there's nothing nicer than your own bed after four nights on the hard ground. :cloud9:

A yearly tradition is stacking all the folding chairs on the last night, apparently started years ago when one cranky attendee objecting to sharing his.

Good afternoon, did some wiring in the Townhouse rental yesterday, found some scary wiring from the previous own that I had to repair. Twisted wires with no marrettes, only tape wrapped around it. Will chaeck out the rest of the wiring before we rent the place out.

Colder here today, low 30's, 20's tonight.

Flipped over 300,000 miles on my 2005 pilot on the way to work. I like to watch the odometer and look for certain digit sequences. Still remember hitting 100K miles while crossing a particular bridge near work. On my 2001 Dodge truck, I hit 100K miles on Northbound I77 in VA, crossing the New River, where the shot tower is located. This was several years ago returning from scout camp. KevT probably crossed that bridge last week going to fetch that new horse in WV.

I'm sure I did, was on I-77 from SC to I-64 in WV, now just don't ask me which bridge it was. Going up it was dark and raining and a little scary. Coming home I had a 2200 pounds of moving weight in a bumper pull trailer... a little scary. Did a lot of "I Think I Can's" up the hills, and a whole lot of "Whoa Nellie's" going down.

17 and windy, going to 34. Cccccold. Snow flurries nearby yesterday.

Ran my splitter and chainsaw a bit on Sunday afternoon to finish off some scrap rounds, and they started easily - was looking ahead because I was afraid the splitter would be tough to start even with Sea-foam on a cold day like today. Haven't had to use it on any equipment other than the splitter, but it seems to be doing the job. Thanks again for the tip.

Well, tomorrow is Old Christmas Day, but we will begin removing all the Christmas decorations today since it's too cold for much outside and my wife has company coming tomorrow.

Plus another day at the gym - it sure was crowded yesterday - lots of New Year's Resolutions being honored. Every year there is a surge in January that usually recedes by February, and especially once the first nice day of spring comes.

Think I'll let pickup warm up some before heading to work.

Enjoy the day.

22 this morning and headed to 42 today. Yep winter made it. Some flurries around yesterday. Blood has yet to thicken so it's mighty cold.

Audit this morning then the stress leaves. After that I think I'll go light a brush pile. Nothing like a good fire to soothe ones sole.

Kev. Did you ever figure out the loader? Finally got to look at it and I am wondering if your bend isn't in the linkages for the dump.

Good morning, 10F here in Southern Ontario, heading to 28F. Almost got the wiring finished in the rental and then it's off to hanging drywall. Only 10 sheets so it shouldn't take too long.

Good Morning! 47F @ 5:00 AM. Rain likely. Thunder possible. High 49F. Winds SE at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 100%.

The rain gauge here says a whopping 3.3" have fallen since 3 AM, but surrounding stations only report .75". I'm beginning to doubt the Davis Vantage Vue again, this time for reporting high numbers, which I think is worse than no numbers at all as it did last time.

The wood stove is going and the house is finally warming up after four days with no heat. The temperature was 61F when I got back on Sunday, and the air warmed quickly, but the walls, ceiling, floor, and furnishings are taking their time warming up.

Paperwork and web stuff on the agenda for today.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 52° with light rain this morning. Heading to 58° with occasional rain all day. Finally got motorhome washed. Then it rained. Not much planned except staying out of rain.
Gary, you still on holidays?
Good Morning All.
