Ron, I think Cup is taking the holiday off today. I recorded the X-whatever race yesterday, but haven't watched it yet.

I'm glad I took a look at the Xfinity series race when I did. Rain in Chicago washed out last night's rice, and it just went green on FoxSport2. I guess it's better to be lucky than good.

well scaredy, you're up early. Me too...
78 degrees already in the dark, going up to 96 today, 98 tomorrow. No rain until Wednesday.

I nap rather than sleep - just not comfortable with my back, constant adjusting. but it's all good - we had some much needed rain lately

Schicken, don't expect a zero turn to have a better ride than a lawn tractor.
Good Morning All.

perhaps not, it is all about ease of access / egress - very difficult (for me) on a typical lawn tractor, I'll keep what I have until I find the right machine to replace it

For me, getting on/off the Scag is more a challenge than the Craftsman tractor mower.

Thanks guys, lots of interesting old equipment, my friend, Wylee and I really enjoyed ourselves.

Jerome is a quaint tourist town, hanging off the side of the mountain. We did enjoy lunch at a place called MileHigh Cafe, very good burger.

92 this afternoon with a heat index of 102. It's hot and muggy. I hate big birds in this kind of weather. Usually we don't get this bad till July or August. With weather like this atleast I don't have to worry about grass for cattle. All my pastures have atleast one section of woods in them. So they stay in the shade all day then come eat about dark and all night. But chickens are hard to cool. Mainly because we use evaporative cooling. And with this much humidity there's no room to evaporate anything. So it's all windspeed and wait for the afternoon thunderstorms.

Happy Father's Day to all the fathers.

Drew. Congrats on your new boat.

... RS, I keep waiting for my 15 year old equipment to start needing repairs. I do not look forward to it.
Yah ... it's inevitable, only a matter of time ...

Worst thing about it, at least in my experience, is that it tends to happen at the most inopportune times ...

   / Good morning!!!! #35,208
NBC has RallyCross racing right now. Excellent series. Cars are awesome and they go slideways a lot!

... RS, I started off with a Harbor Freight chain sharpener, which worked but wasn't very good at keeping the cuts consistent.
First time I used a chain sharpener, I used a friend's HF unit and my experience - and his comments about it - led me to go with something a little better.

Spent the big bucks on an Oregon machine, ...
I went for a Timber Tuff from TSC ... it's more or less an Oregon knock off ... for about 1/2 the price.

... and I have to confess I don't do a whole lot better with it. Both use a steel finger to position the saw teeth, and for some reason it doesn't seem to be all that repeatable.
I always make sure that I lightly pull the tooth to be sharpened back against the finger, and ensure that the chain is fully seated (down) in the guide rails.

The instructions say to find the shortest tooth, set the stop for that, and do the rest all the same. But if it's the first time sharpening a chain, why should any of the teeth be shorter than the rest? Can't be that much wear, and a look at the dulled edges confirms it. So I end up getting two or three sharpenings out of a chain before the teeth are too short to use.
Sounds like you're taking too much off ...

I'm on probably the 4th or 5th sharpening on my newest Stihl chain and it's still at better than 50% remaining ...

Small moves ... ;)

But at least if I stick with Stihl chain it seems to last about twice as long as the Oregon stuff, so I spend less time changing chain and more time cutting.
Makes sense ... Stihl chain is all I use.

It's also starting to sound like you'd be money ahead picking up a used lathe on Craig's List to keep the Simplicity going. Hey, a man can never have too many tools, right?
Yup ... ;)

Not a realistic option at this point tho' ...

And you gotta wonder what sort of cheese they made those shafts and keyways out of. Or if the fit wasn't what it should have been right from the factory?
They were somewhat wallowed out the last time I changed the drum sprockets ... should have handled it then.

Ideally, the shafts/drum would have been splined ... but they probably used whatever was cheapest, and readily available.

You may get by for a little while with a spot of weld metal on the end of the key, but that slop is still in there and it will end up breaking the weld loose again.
My idea was to maybe tack it on the end that faces out, and then fill in the wallowed out portion, by welding along the sides of the key. I can probably use a small stone in a Dremel (my Christmas present to my nephew 10 years or so ago) to clean it up and remove any excess weld.

Hate to say it, but is it time to pass the Simplicity along and get something a little less complicated?
Nah ... once I get this fix done she oughta be good for another 10 or 15 years ...

And don't get me started on what the likes of HD and Lowes big box stores have done to the little mom'n'pop hardware stores that used to carry everything. The big box stores only carry stuff that moves, and that's not little bits like woodruff keys. The mom'n'pop places didn't do enough volume to match the big places' discounts, so they and their complete inventories have gone the way of the dodo bird.
Trips to the big box stores are increasingly a frustrating experience ...

If you're in farm country you might get lucky and stumble across a bearing specialty house (we have one called Bearing, Belt, and Chain, cash only so forget about using your Visa) or you can wait a week or two for maybe the right part to show up from Amazon.
Lots of industry around here ... and numerous bearing/powertrain component suppliers ... so getting the bearings will likely not be a problem.

Will probably use Akron Bearing - they're close and have a wide range of products in inventory ... if not the cheapest place out there.

I guess we're just supposed to throw stuff away when it breaks and shuffle off to the big box store for a crappy new one. Good for the (Chinese) economy and all that.
That seems to be the paradigm that some (most ?) companies are pushing.

boy I am so not going out in that stuff.
Well maybe a zip down the lane in the golf cart to pick up more
Mcdonald's trash out by the road, but then zip back into ac.
All three of those ac fans roaring away out back I'm wondering if the whole
house will soon levitate like a VTOL. ;)

Now if I could get the exhaust from them hooked into little ac wind generators...

Good afternoon all. 73F this morning going to 87F and unforecasted rain. Need to rip the plywood we bought yesterday into shelves outside. Taking the day off then hit again tomorrow. Still need to get the garage and office organized.

Yep...crime...mostly due to the opiate invasion...is coming to New England.

Vermont Governor Schumlin thinks junkies need treatment...I say treat 'em like the criminals they are and a "cold turkey" treatment (in prison) is what they need.

You need to be careful with that. Our state went with zero tolerance laws for drug offenders back in the 80's and 90's. We ended up with the largest percentage of folks in prison in the world. And it is really expensive. Michigan ended up spending more for prisons than for higher ed. Drug treatment is much cheaper than prison. And once the young ones have been in prison, they seem to be better criminals - they get worse, often much worse.

lol. Yeah I hate when it gets that hot. I thank the person who invented a/c every time I turn mine on when it gets hot.

I grew up without it and am so glad I have it now in my house.

I have to go to my old place tomorrow to load up some more scrap metal. I'm hoping I can get over there early in the day and get it loaded and bring it back to my new place before it gets too hot.

Supposed to be 100F tomorrow but will feel hotter.

When I was a kid We couldn't afford a/c and all we had were some fans. I remember talking into them as a kid and hearing how my voice would change. Heck I still do that sometimes for fun.

Talking into the fan kept me entertained as a kid for hours. :)

I have my window a/c going right now in my bedroom. I had it shut off while I was gone and didn't think it would still be as hot towards evening in the house.

But it was so now it's trying to cool down the room.

Not had much need for a/c around here yet ! My Iseki came with a/c in the cab. I tried it again yesterday to check it works and admire the nice blue LED, then shivered and turned the heater on for a while.

Dog found a bird nest in the shed, partially hidden behind a gas canister. He didn't harm them, just wagged his tail and made his hey-do-you-want-to-play little yap.

Not sure what they are yet, my guess is baby blackbirds.

How long could you keep a bottle of beer without drinking it ?
A local auction house has sold an unopened 140 year old bottle, made to celebrate the British Arctic expedition of 1875. Evidently the expedition didnt make it to the North Pole, so no one felt like celebrating. Wouldn't be surprised if your bud or prickley pear has a better flavour- someone paid 3,300 pounds (4,950 $) to find out what Old Artic tastes like.

76 degrees going up to 96 today.
I don't expect to get much done today after dosing myself with Valium, as requested... ,to get through grinding two molars down for crowns. Normally just an annoyance...but with a fused neck, my whole spine vibrates so this is not a thing to look forward to...Seems the normal dose starts at .5mg. I was given that in the last few months of my wife's life. I could feel something, not much. One dentist wanted me to take 30mg of Valium to have "painless" dentistry. 60 times a normal dose. I asked the guy how that affects one and he said you drool a bit... No. In consultation with my "real" dentist, I'm taking 10mg, wearing my soft collar and getting a ride to and from. Probably not a good idea to run any of my machinery for awhile...;) likely coming home for a long nap. Never had to be tranquilized before; I'm more a Columbian coffee man...

So while my dentist works on me like RS grinding off his welds, I'll be wishing you a more pleasant day.

Good luck at the dentist today Drew. 72 this morning had 1.5in of rain yesterday high of 93 today. That days are too early in the season if you ask me it June not July. Made it back from short trip yesterday evening tired but a lot of fun none the less

Drinking last cup of coffee for the day. 58° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 84° with sun and chance of thunderstorms in the evening. No Foxsports2 on Comcast so I did not get the race yesterday. Still a good Fathers day. First full day of summer today. Going to start power washing the house.
Drew, good luck with the dental visit.
Thomas, sorry to hear about theft at you place.
Good Morning All.

Happy Summer Solstice
73 right now with coffee with a high of 98 coming. Working in the town of Suwannee today. About an hours drive each way.

Hey Drew, Good luck with that... Several thoughts come to mind. If you were a horse we would be floating your teeth, so wonder if valium would work on them? :D
