58F. We had off and on rain this afternoon, maybe 0.15" total. Good chance of a bit more tomorrow. I hope we get it. Real (Maine :))summer temps arrive Wednesday with highs in low 80's and lows in mid-50's.

My green beans are up finally but I have to replant my cukes. Of three hills with three seeds each, only three sprouted and only one of those is still there. I saw a snowshoe hare hopping along the edge of the mowed yard tonight. I hope it doesn't like tender little bean leaves.

Made a grocery run this morning. Making chili in the crockpot tomorrow morning. Election duty tomorrow from 1:30 pm til about 9 pm for the school budget vote.

My Mom is progressing well with her therapy to get her arm going again. She will move back home tomorrow afternoon and she is ready to make her escape from the nursing home. :D She will get home visits by a physical therapist for a while yet but she can dress, bathe, and do simple one-arm tasks now.

Speaking of escapes, those two prison escapees in Upstate NY sure got away with something. That metal they cut through looked to be at least 3/16". How do you cut that quietly enough to avoid detection? Something fishy about that besides whoever supplied the tools. Maybe Makita or Bosch can advertise cordless tools that "will get you out of any jam."

70 tonight. A couple of showers moved through today at different times. Most rain was had in town. Watched the last one split me as I was cutting hay. Did get hard enough to run me back to the barn. But really just wetted the ground. Managed to get about 16 acres cut today. Didn't get started till 2pm. 5 hours of seat time minus the one breakdown. Quick repair as it was loose belts on the cutter. Cut 12 acres fine then got into some thicker hay and you could hear the cutter loose rpms and start to ball up. Classic belt symptoms. New belts last year. Will finish tomorrow. About another 15 acres to cut.

Dave good news about your mom.

When you REALLY need performance, buy xxxxxxx!!!

Yep. I wonder if that was done in one shot or they recharged the batteries over several days, or had spare batteries maybe.

How is the restaurant building refurb coming along? Hope your sister is doing well too.

70 out this AM. Rest of the week is expected to get hot and humid. Yesterday I watched the thunderstorms pass me by while poolside. That was until three photograph worthy lightening bolts reminded me to go seek shelter. Why is it you always see a worthy lightening bolt and you never have a camera handy?

Anyway, be well all. Stay safe today, and hydrate!

Good Morning, off to work before it gets to hot, then home to hook up the trailer so I can go get some hay. Yesterday made a sign for the wife and hung it at the end of our driveway. Farm Sign.jpg

Good Morning. 0605, partly cloudy, 71F with 96% humidity. Forecast high of 82F with 80% chance of a thundershower today, and a low of 70F today. I guess the prudent thing to do would be to go ahead and turn on the soaker hoses. All of the forecast storms have dodged me lately, so today should be no different. I got my fencing done, all but the hardware for a couple of gate/gaps, so I start with the disc this morning. Never got around to planting the acorn squash. I had better do that first. I have drug dealers at work tonight. It's Something Pharm. {not the real name. I just can't remember it} The guy cooking is from Tallahassee. Since he isn't a regular, I'll have to let him know that feeding me is part of the deal.

Hope everyone has a good day,

Larro

71 this morning and headed to 89 today. Head out and walk chickens. Then back to the hay field. If I get done in time I need to till the garden and plant the last planting. Also wife needs flower bed tilled again around back. All the beds we're putting in are pre-annual beds.

If you saw the closeup of wall before, showing all the nails sticking out from the outside siding you would understand the upgrade. OUCH :D I did like the original rustic look.
The ottoman is Muffins resting place when we are sitting in the chairs.

Michigan got a lot of folks from Appalachia during and after WW2. When I was growing up, I learned to distinguish people from different areas by their accent. I think it is harder now, folks watch tv, and so forth, the speech has become more uniform. I do remember as a teenager, a friends dad asking me "where you from" He was surprised that I was from Michigan, some members of my family having been here since 1813. He was from a area that didn't even have a road!! They had to walk a mile or so, down a creek bed. Before they came north, they didn't have a telephone or indoor plumbing, and this was in the 60's.

It's getting hard to find a native Floridian too, even up here in the panhandle. But we didn't have any {non farm} jobs before the 40's, and very few after. {The first hard money my Daddy made was hewing and carrying cross-ties to the railroad for $.25 each. He could do two a day. They were paying more for the timber than the labor. When he went off to war, the few dollars a month he got from the Army was big money to him} Free land was what brought folks down here. Most of my people came here in the 1890's with 20-30 year stops in Georgia and South Carolina. Many of them moved on to South Florida in the 40's and 50's, but thank the Good Lord, my bunch stuck here.
