Still 46F and cloudy @ 12:20 ... with sunny skies later, and a high of 59F.

Just started a fire in the WBF ... with lows over the next three days of 38F to 48F, it looks like I should be able to use up the rest of the wood here at the house. Might even have to fetch a little more.

Yesterday I worked on screening the compost pile from a couple of years ago ... got maybe 1/6th of it done. With the lows temps it will probably take a few days to get it completed, since the inside lower portion of the pile was so wet. Sun will help.

Also spent some time working on finishing up cleaning the garage.

The weather chased me back inside. 51F & cloudy with the wind whipping across the open field is chilly. I could have appreciated some gloves. I got enough done for today as it is.

Glad the tornado missed Kyle and TXDon. I always think about what a clean-up job comes after strong winds or tornadoes even without injuries.

I don't think I would want to pay the bill to keep chicken barns at 90F here in Maine. That would be expensive with any fuel. Maybe that's one reason more chickens are raised in the south and mid-south.

Good evening all. Have been busy with moving projects and BIL/SIL visit. Got most of the family stuff stored here moved and restored elsewhere. Today weather was COOL! high was 53F this morning and dropped from there. Cloudy with light rain on and off today's low is current temp of 47F. Granddaughter showed up 3 three items flunked on car inspection, 1 is fixed but can't find a leak in the power steering so back to inspection station and have him show me. Last item is an exhaust leak and will go by muffler shop to get repaired. Lot of vehicle maintenance to get done, and no bike rides since Saturday .

That sun was almost hot this morning, though by 8:00am the wind was back up and had me reaching for a jacket.

What is that sign behind your tractor (pic with the gravel)? Looks like a wildlife type sign.

Neighbours put that sign up to warn thieves to stay away, so it's more lowlife than wildlife. Don't think it does any good, but if it makes them feel better (the neighbours, not the thieves), then I don't mind.

Morning all, 50F heading to 66F. Worked on the deck again last night to prep it fro staining on Saturday. Found a very alarming site, only about 14, 3" nails holding the deck to posts. Could not see how they would be able to hold up the deck if you had a large amount of people on it. Drove in 4" spikes to shore it up. Good to go now.:thumbsup:

Drinking first cup of coffee. 48° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 66° with partly cloudy skies. Gave up waiting for back to get better. Went to doctor and got some meds. Feeling better today. But will only cut lawn later in the day. Need at least one more day of rest.

Stacking wood last evening not one single blackfly show up nor broke sweat,fingers cross starting tomorrow for the next 11 days this weather hangs around on my vacation.
Dang owl decided to do some hooting early this morning by the bedroom window,sure got the cat attention.

48F headed to 70F today, about 20 degrees warmer than yesterday.

Mom was back in the hospital yesterday getting ready for surgery on her arm today. No bone healing was happening. That doesn't really surprise me since she has been taking meds for bone density loss for several years now. Doc says three small incisions, probably one from her shoulder area. Laparoscopic Gorilla Glue maybe? I think she is in a much better mental state to deal with it now than she was just after falling.

Took Coco for a 3 mile hike yesterday to the river - great seeing the mountain laurel blooming and a turkey who didn't want to flee the path, to Coco's excitement.

good morning all. Dave, good luck today with your Mom. May all outcomes be positive.

Weather outcome is not good today for what is planned...replacing the pavers in my front walkway and repitching the whole area away from the house. Since my helper noshowed me yesterday (I think he like Maynard Krebs must pipe up every once in a while "WORK?") Two fireman coming today to do the work; I'm still hurting from pulling all the pavers out yesterday by myself. And now the forecast is for severe thunderstorms starting after lunch with .8 inches of rain.
Don't think the top layer of sand is going to get set today, will get the rest done and wait until things dry up. I bought the plastic bottom liners from Lowes to make this somewhat idiot proof.

Need to make a run out in a little bit to pick up some more water and sports drinks for the workers. Then I intend to do nothing more than drive the tractor and supervise today. They will need to dig out the sand in there already, likely will get them to just shovel into the FEL and I'll go make yet another pile somewhere. Even though the plastic liners allegedly avoid the use of underlayment, we are doing it the old fashioned way, go all the way down, underlay, roll/tamp, light coat of sand, tamp again, lay liners, lay pavers, etc. Maybe those liners will let them get enough done before the heavens open up. That area will then be quite the little swimming pool. Plastic liners are full of drain holes so it should all drain and be fine by morning. Then tomorrow we can finish it off.

I'll have a lot of material left. Preserved all the old pavers and piled them behind the barn, and will lay them somewhere in the barn to form a floor, a bit of recycling. Pics to follow.

Thanks. I don't know the details of what they plan to do. I know she is much stronger now that things have settled down a bit. I'll get a full report from my brother after the surgery.
