4 this morning and wind still blowing high only in 20s today and low 20s at that. Maybe a shot at an ice/wintery mix next week. Not looking forward to that not one bit.

rswyan now our furnace not working right only 62 in house ugh. The propane not switching on properly time for service and spending money we did not plan on spending. There goes my scope for new rifle

Fortunately there were no pans within easy reach ...

Well, the winds have slowed, but temp is 8 with only 24 forecasted. Sounds like most of you have it much colder, and have my respect after just taking the dog for a hike. Saw a very nice shooting star.

Schools are 2-hour delay, and a local private school is closed. I don't remember ever having a delay for cold weather when I was a kid - even if the boiler went out...."and we had to walk 6 miles to school in the snow, barefoot..."

Buppies, you need that scope. You'll have to cut back somewhere else.

My "new furnace money" went into replacing a boiler in a commercial building I own.

Might now be too bad less than ten year old Trane 95 plus propane backing up the heat pump. Still has one year or so of warranty left its just getting on list to get it fixed. The dual fuel switch is probably bad or something like that.

Looking at a nice Vari X111 6.5 to 20 but 900 dollars is a lot of coin for a varmint rifle

-17F, light winds & clear. 8F today and mostly sunny. After today the next ten look fairly normal except there isn't much snow forecast.

I've been firing the masonry stove twice a day for the past two-three days, 68F in the living area this morning. 65F in the bedroom end. Good thing I added some floor heat there. I haven't tried the mini-splits in these low temps, figured I'd get more bang for the buck burning some propane.

Buppies, Sorry to hear about more furnace troubles. Hope it's an easy & cheap fix 'cause everyone has better things to spend money on than stupid furnaces. :laughing:

Just checked Weather Underground for my zip code ... says the temp has now dropped (after rising a couple of degrees a couple of hours ago) to -2.5F ... :confused2:

6 degrees out. I howled at the moon as it was going down over the pasture. Did not notice any wind, beat a quick retreat back into the house after grabbing some firewood. I can deal with the cold. I keep repeating that. LOL. It is the wind that always gets me.

Good Morning! It looks like I'm the warm spot untill Ron and David report in. (Except for Eric in the UK.)
25˚ with a high of 41˚.
Still running just on wood at 68˚ inside, WBS set on lowest air intake overnight. The 7 hour log load, down to a few coals, lit back up quickly with more air and seasoned wood this morning.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 61° with some clouds this morning. Heading to 72° with some clouds. Yesterday was a record high temperature for Phoenix. Kind of odd to see all the low temperatures being reported at same time elsewhere.

Well I can see why the temp has dropped some more ... walked outside and it was clear as a bell ... despite WU reporting it as being overcast.

The Espar cabin heater fired up on the first try but the van itself was a little more reluctant - I cycled the glow plugs twice before I tried to turn it over and still didn't seem like it was going to hit. So I turned it off and cycled them again and it caught and fired on the second try. The temp readout on the dash said -5F.

Think I'll run down to Autozone later and grab some Power Service in the white bottle.

Walked up to the shop to grab the lead for the block heater on the Kubota and to see what the temp was in there ... surprisingly it was only down to 31F ... and that's with no fire in there for about the past 24 hours or so.

Time to go plug the Kubota in ...

Agree 100% about the wind...we live on a high area and the wind sweeps across the farmland on 3 sides of us and it's usually blowing during winter...my phone weather report says it's 5 above zero but the "real feel" is minus 21 degrees. We are headed to the grocery store later, glad my truck has the heated seats. BTW we keep the house at 68 degrees.

Do you guys ever wonder how prehistoric man coped with bitter winter weather and wearing animal skins for clothing and shoes while having to go out and hunt for his dinner.....? No way any of us could have done that....

It's even chilly down here in SW Florida this morning. 40° this am with a high of 64. The anemometer shows some gusts at over 20mph.
