Drinking lots of hot coffee. 3° with mostly clear skies this morning. Heading to 25° with mix of sun and clouds. When I first got up this morning digital thermometer read 1°. Checked other thermometers outside. They gave similar low temperatures. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! I am now sure it's time to head south. Need tomorrows thaw to get things ready.
Best, safe wishes for our friends along SE coast of the great lakes.
Good Morning All

Ron safe travels to you and your wife. Headed south Sunday you will run into rain I think then colder temperatures for turkey day

Have a good Friday!

we are expecting some flurries today with temps in 20's. My son wanted to go to buffalo bills stadium and help shovel 4 ft of snow for 10 bucks an hour and free tickets. Thank goodness they canceled the game and moved to detroit instead. I wasnt looking forward to driving there and shovel a spot to park the car then go shovel again for gas money, tolls and tickets. plus I wouldnt have a place to stay either.

27 heading to 38 and sunny.

It warmed up to 55 yesterday, so I got the last segment of power washing done and put it away for the winter. Now waiting for a warm, dry day to finish painting.

I think it is warming and raining by Sunday.

Be well all,
David

Guys I have a serious n00b concern about my tractor...

Over the summer I ran out of the Polar-D additive my dealer sold me, and unless I go 50 miles to him, I cannot find it anywhere. None of the other brands came with a measure cup, so I hemmed and hawwed and finally just a couple weeks ago bought something else I can get locally (and make my own measure cup for.

Problem is the cold snuck up on me. I'm not sure the fuel in the tractor has additive or not, I know that the full jersey can does not, am I too late? How doI add and mix it into the tank? How can I know that tractor is safe to drive?

How the heck is it legal to sell fuel that might gel up and turn to wax!!!!

How much trouble am I in now? I hate being a n00b...

Thanks in advance,
David

Davis, I run my tractor all winter (firewood hauling, a little snow removal, etc.) and have never added anything to the diesel fuel I buy at Carmel Church or Ashland.

David I think your a bit south to worry about that but if you have a gel up use Power service HEAT.

That is the best news I've heard all day! I've literally been afraid to start my tractor...

I believe I've been buying my diesel lately at Sheetz in Massaponax or at the Citgo in Ladysmith...

THANK YOU!
Be well,
David

Thanks Murph.

How cold does it need to get? Does it just thaw out again when it gets warmer?

I'm going to go add some additive "Just In case" this weekend and maybe drive the tractor around to mix it up (my littlest one will love riding on it with me).

THANK YOU!
David

24 right now and might hi 30 mid day. The kicker is the wind and we are looking at wind speeds up to 10 MPH
good day to take it easy and wait it out. Going to warm up on Monday so they say.
Tonight the temps in our area will be in the teens and single digits up north, ain’t winter yet but sure feels like it!

Good morning! 63˚ and foggy and will top out at 71˚ this afternoon when the rains start.
Yesterday was a warm and cloudy day hitting 70˚, so I grappled up some large rocks and made a retaining wall at the beginning of a gully, hopeful this will stop it from growing.

18 this morning and headed to 47 today. Nice daily warmup there. No wind either.

Need to fix fence so cattle can be moved to greener pastures without hay. Looks like it may take a few hours.

David. Even summer deisel shouldn't gel till the teens then it will go back to a liquid after it warms up. I run the white Power Service. If I forget to add it before it gets cold then I will add to the tank and just let tractor run at about 1000-1200rpms for about 10-15 min. There is enough motion from the fuel pump to mix it. A deisel will return 1/2-2/3 of the fuel they pump back to the tank anyways. Then for a gas jug I just add it and shake. Best use I have found for new EPA lids. I don't have to worry about spilling any. My 300 gal gravity tank just gets it poured in if I forget to add before he fills it up.
Also if parked outside. Turn the injector pump to the south in a sunny spot. The sun will keep it thawed also.

David, I don't use any additives in my bota, and I live in Michigan. I do try to keep the tank full, so I don't get condensation in there. It starts at -15F here, with no heater on it. A friend of mine is a trucker, been running diesels for 30+ years, never has used any this stuff.

Cold here this am. Getting all the way to 50 by sunday. I am on my 3rd cup of coffee, so I need to get going!!!

28º here this morning in GA, but getting to mid 60s today! Great. And, me builder boys finally came this morning to finish me screen room deck and addition to carport. Whew, be glad when that work is done! It's always something, now, I'll need a pole barn to put travel trailer under since it won't fit with height of new carport extension... A man cain't have too many roofs on his place to keep his junque under.

David MFW: I would worry more about algae getting started in your fuel tank than gelling in your location--assuming a tank of fuel lasts you several months sometimes.

Further north we have summer and winter blends of #2 diesel. The fuel stations switch over seasonally. You could ask where you purchase your fuel if you are getting a winter blend.

This looks like good info on the gelling subject:

Speaking of gelling diesel, y'all boys up in COLD country, can ye just try to run ye tractors in winter too? I know ye've already thought of this of course, but seems that's really the best thing to do. Even down here in fairly warm country, mine sits too long sometimes.

Good Morning. 1050, sunny, 64F with 57% humidity. Forecast high of 67F with 0% chance of rain this afternoon, and a low of 43F tonight. Our low was 33F, but by the time I walked over to Mamma's to cook her some breakfast, it was quite nice out. It looks like rain on Sunday and Monday.

There is a big weather event taking place over Siberia now that will adversely effect our weather in about two weeks or so. Couple that with a mild ElNino and you get very cold and stormy conditions over two thirds of the good ole USA. This cold may be very severe.

Larro think you're really going to be cold and soon

At least it could wait until winter gets here, just out of respect to the calendar. Not that I'm ever happy about really cold weather.

Today is Friday so I'll be going in to work early. As much as I complained about it being a slow summer, working all seven nights this week doesn't leave much time to get anything done around the house.

Glad they moved the Bills game. Those guys have too much to worry about to let a ballgame take away from them trying to get their lives back to normal. Warm thought to all effected by that crazy snowfall.

Hope everyone is having a good day,

Larro
