some pics to follow later of our trek back to the pond, armed with loppers and clippers so that no vine was safe.

This reminds me of your deer stand discovery and an unsolicited thought I would like to pass along. If the deer population is large in that area, and since natural predation is suppressed, usually the only way they are kept within reasonable numbers is through hunting. When their population exceeds the natural carrying capacity of the native greenery, your yard plants and trees that you have worked so hard on go on the menu.

I don't hunt myself but I think hunters keep our area deer herd below a destructive level. I have no problem allowing access for deer hunting, and I have a reasonable crop of tree seedlings that survive in the under-story of my woods. Even in very rural areas where planted shrubs, flowers, trees, etc. don't exist, large numbers of deer can do long term damage to the native plants.

You may want to keep the deer hunting channels open as necessary allies and try to get a feeling on your local deer numbers to understand if or how much their population is changing. Just saying.

Our friends who live in a Cleveland suburb are over run with deer. Hunting isn't possible due to housing density. Even pinging them with a BB gun doesn't bother them anymore, they just flinch a bit and keep on munching. They eat everything.

How well does the 357 shoot in the Henry. Prices range up to $800 for your particular rifle new by the way. For the 22 in the $300 dollar range. Hope no Dorothy and Totos visit your hacienda

I only shot a few rounds of .38SPL through it when I bought it, so don't know how it handles the .357. I paid $300 for it, so I guess I got a pretty good deal. Actually $200 and a chain link dog pen. A lot of my collection is from folks who are having trouble paying their light bill.

I just talked to my boss. Her son works for the prison system, and he was called in to come down to Calhoun CCI, not his usual prison. Most of the tornado damage was in the parking lot, where 12 cars were flipped over. It also took down some of the perimeter fence, so all the convicts are in lock-down today. She said the drunk guy from the other night had called to apologize, and was sending some of his family by with a check. I figured that is what would happen.

We have had some periods of hard rain, but not very much of it. There are dark clouds building up in the west again, but I think the worst of the weather is past us. And it is already cooling off. It's 63F and falling.

The friends live in N. Royalton. They have lived in the same house since the mid-70's. Originally it was a dead end street of maybe 30 homes with woodland all around it. Now it's a through street with subdivisions all tight around it. So it goes.

Dave, I think I'd handle the closing the ceiling light the same as you, unless I found some other reason not to.

Drew, I see there was a tornado warning box in your area. Be safe.

RS - so much pretty snow. We're getting enough rain right now to make a foot of snow, but still in the mid-40's.

I'm getting ready to butcher my deer from Saturday. Good lean venison, anyone?

Good morning all. 16F this morning and wind gust 22 mph, hate to think of what the wind chill was. We have already exceeded the forecast high of 26F with the current temp of 29F and snow flurries. Had just over 2 in snow over the weekend. Long range has some warming before cooling off again (all below normal):confused2:. Cat has been dosed by the vet, my prescriptions have been straightened out, and fireplace is warming the house. Will do some more wood splitting this afternoon.

70 degrees, keeping an eye on the sky, tornado warning sure is in effect
let's see, should I stay inside or go outside and plant tulips and daffodils.
bad weather heading North on both sides of me, leaving an alley way in the middle where Washington and Greenville are.
Nasty looking further West; likely that is what has triggered the tornado alert.
There is supposed to be a 50 degree drop in temp in 24 hours.

as far as deer hunting, am all for it. But on my place surrounded by houses, it will only be bow and arrow and those privileges will be carefully doled out.
I did put a relatively pleasant sign up asking for removal of the stand. And I said thank you....

Beautiful pictures of the snow. You all have really nice places, thanks for sharing.

Larro thanks for update I'll do so more checking on how it shoots plus got plenty of time to find one

Thanks Charlie. I think you are correct for our codes too.

The light fixture is a Juno IC-rated recessed can, the only fixture on that switch. Removing that will leave a 6-1/2" inch hole in the ceiling to patch. I confess I'm going to bypass that project--given the 2' of blown cellulose in the attic.

The wall switch for the light fixture shares a box (set in a tongue & groove finished wall) with a duplex outlet that is on a different circuit and will remain accessible and functional; it won't become a buried junction box. I could remove the switch, if I can find a double outlet wall plate that is blank on the switch side. Wire nut and label the hot and fixture switch wires in the box.
Here is one: Leviton 88008 2-Gang 1-Duplex 1-Blank Device Combination Wallplate, Standard Size, Thermoset, Box Mount, White - Outlet Plates - Amazon.com
You might also add a second outlet there (connected to the first one) and just push the switch wires to the back of the box.

the bad weather fizzled out before it got here, good, though I would have liked some rain.

yesterday I witnessed something really funny. Apparently there are two mockingbirds (??) who live in the hedges on both sides of my driveway.
they pop up out of the middle of the bush and seem to talk to each other.
Then it got a little strange...
out into the driveway they jump, and proceed to hop up and down in some ritualistic dance about one foot away from each other. One would go up on one leg, the other would hop up and down a bit. This went on for at least ten minutes and they ignored us fifty feet away. Over a bit on another bush is a big fat bird, maybe a pregnant mom.
