56 degrees going to 77 today; all that moisture must be going North of here; only 20% chance of rain later this week but we shall see. No actual rain predicted until next Wednesday. Did some mowing and trimming yesterday afternoon; things are starting to get a little dusty for once. Today I am off to Greenville to pick out bathroom cabinets and plumbing fixtures. Not my forte but it has to be done. Buying Moen fixtures from a plumbing supply house vs the plastic stuff at Lowes.
The new shower in the master bathroom is going to be a walk in style, of which I am not familiar so I had to rethink things. Though trying to keep the "extras" down to a bare minimum, I did agree to putting in one of those overhead rainshower heads plus a second set of shower controls near the entrance, so I can warm things up before I go in. 5 feet by 7 feet with double the number of normal ADA
hand holds. And a bench seat to sit down. Otherwise the bathroom is a lot more "normal" than the builders might have liked who want pictures at the end to show new clients. I keep repeating "modest" not "fancy". I think they finally got it.
now where are the shower nymphs who are going to join me? Maybe for Christmas...
hate to dicker. In some ways it is against my faith. But I'm learning...I told the granite guy I thought his estimate for the kitchen counter top was pretty high compared to two others I had done. He agreed and the price dropped 300 bucks or 15%. I didn't complain and I didn't whine. I just said how I felt. Interestingly he immediately agreed...but then I try to be reasonable, which I suppose is the whole point.
Granite is sold in grade levels and I was a lot happier with his C pricing than his D pricing, and all I had to do was ask.
I tried that on the driveway and got nowhere; mostly because I think the price was fair to begin with, or at least in the right range. And they did come back out and remeasure everything and double check the asphalt pricing. When I see what my Quaker Meeting back in PA is paying to pave their parking lot and dilapidated driveway, what I was charged here seems really reasonable. I just wish the paving crew had not run their grader through after the first grader and peeled back an entire foot of lawn that wound up not being used. A real mess... Job security for me right? The paving GC is coming tomorrow to clean up the driveway and do some other work. After they leave and I see how much is left for me to do, I'll reserve judgment until then.
