Personally I had planned to do this (radiant) as well ... but at the rate things are going I dunno if I'll ever make it happen ...

Check these guys out - they're up in your neck of the woods ... more or less.

Welcome to Insulation Depot - Rigid Foam Insulation, Used Insulation, Roofing Supplies, Roofing Material

They offer used/reclaimed foamboard insulation ... might be able to save a few bucks.

Yup ... kinda hard to add the tubing or the insulation after the pour ... and you'll use insulation no matter whether you hook up the tubing or not.

Significantly I would think ... go thicker around the edges ... even at the cost of leaving the middle uninsulated.

I am getting the 2 insulation board today, being delivered for like 27 dollars a sheet 4x8. Not a bad price and it will be delivered to my door. WE plan on adding insulation right up onto the side wall of the tow cement blocks and then I will cap it later with a board to cover the upper end. I will be adding two zones for the radiant heating so we should be able to keep one area warmer than the other. ( the wood shop area, mine nice and warm and the car park area, wives sort of warm, maybe.) Inside dimensions are 24 x 42 feet so it is a good size building for me to fill up. When we first built it I made a comment that I would never fill it, then last week when I started pulling things out for the finishing of the floor it took me two days to get everything out. Don稚 think it is big enough now.

Wayne,

Well ... we had a catastrophic tool failure ... lol ...

The bottom pipe "cup" piece came unglued (ie. broke off) ... guess I didn't have the juice turned up high enough when I welded it.

Fortunately it didn't occur until only the last 6 inches or so was left to be driven ... and the saving grace might have been that before I welded the bit/driving plate assembly onto the "cup" (pipe) I took a grinding point (round) in a die grinder and ground a concave indentation (cup) into the driving plate to help keep the rod centered:

View attachment 389734

At any rate, the driving of the rod took about 2 to 4 minutes tops ... hit a couple of rocks on the way in which slowed it down for a bit ... but the end on the ground rod itself had been ground to a taper, with about 1/8" to 1/4" tip left unground.

I did cheat a little ... I drove it near the service entrance ... where I had already dug out the dirt to a depth of 18" to repair the water line.:

The hammer drill I used was this one from Harbor Freight ... on sale right now for a buck, twenty-four (regular price $269):

8.5 Amp 2-in-1 1-9/16 in. Variable Speed SDS Max Type Rotary Hammer

If I needed one to use daily making a living this probably wouldn't be the one I'd buy ... but it seems to be fairly decent quality for the occasional use/homeowner type deal.

Hey I am not knocking Harbor Freight and when we started the build last fall I went there and bought a hammer drill to drill the holes for the plate hold downs I think it was the one in this link and the price seems to be right, at the time I bought a kit of cement drill bits and one bit made it through all of the holes we had to drill. Not too sure when I will ever use it again but it will sit in the shop waiting for the day. LOL

   / Good morning!!!! #24,499
good morning all. First, Gary, we all send you a big guy hug and hope you are left with enduring love and peace.

69 degrees in the Inner Banks of NC, first time I've seen it dip under 70. 86 today in clearing weather; I'm headed to town to get my auto insurance, then to DMV, then to my first of many new doc appts down here for two lumps in my thyroid today, rising PSA tomorrow, etc etc. All surmountable.

Really nice the local hospital is 15 minutes from my house, or if I caught a ride with the local sheriffs in the Hemi Charger police cars that constantly drive on the same road, since the High School is between my home and the hospital, I bet I'd be there in 10 minutes. Plus I have a paid fireman/EMS for a next door neighbor. All good stuff when I drop the plow on my toe...hopefully not.

Last night was a milestone for me. I had a nice cold beer and hooked up the propane tank to the grill, then barbecued some burgers that I topped off with a nice slice of onion and my friend's right off the vine tomato.
Boy that tasted good in more ways than one. Home sweet home. You may be a money pit but you're mine...;)

Several times I've seen a Camaro or Mustang moving right along on the main road nearby, followed by one of those police cruisers in tan and black about one car length behind. The road is 55 and should only be a 45 at most. I'm constantly having to speed up because I'm driving 45-50 which is moving right along on this road, and others want to get past. Then it drops to 45 and then the 35 zone on the road outside the high school, which I'm told is the revenue zone.

On my way into town I pass the health department, a nursing home, the high school, and then the hospital with all the doc offices around it. The hospital is on "my side" of town which makes going to appointments a ten minute drive.
Sure never did that before. I need to find a primary doc and there aren't many for sure. Seems the primary doc is now treated just like a triage person before the specialists get in. Well, I do need my flu shot, etc. I brought a medical file with me almost a foot tall. Depressing reading as I witness my slow deterioration over the last ten years.
Luckily, only in parts...

hope to get the last of the implements off the front lawn late this afternoon, with some help from a neighbor. The potato plow isn't so bad; it's that one bottom plow from TSC that is seriously heavy; sure got my money's worth out of steel in that thing. Then a pull behind Swisher rough cut mower to put away and two Gravely wing mowers. I intend to point fingers in this operation and let my neighbor pick up all the heavy stuff.

am feeling much better guys. Two days of rain not only forced me to do almost nothing but kept the sun and heat away.
the real test will be next time I venture out in full sun. Sure wearing my biggest hat. A week later I can still feel some of the after effects of heat exhaustion. Hope to never do that again.
