Got front lawns mowed and the grass blown into windrows after it baked in the sun and dried up a little. Too late to get it picked up with the Trac Vac. Hopefully it won't rain ... but that is looking unlikely.

Tried to install the 3" cylinder for the log lift ... somehow I missed that the ports on the cylinder were 1/2 NPT ... doesn't look like I have the adapters to fit it ... so mebbe another (45 minutes, one way) trip Rural King tomorrow. At least it looks like they have the proper fittings (1/2 MPT ----> 1/4 FPT) ... when I search TSC's website they apparently have never heard of adapter fittings.

Might see if I can get something done on the 4-way wedge tonight.

Leaves on the dogwoods are starting to turn ... sure sign summer is near it's end.

. . .Do the mini splits use Glycol to deliver the cold or heat? Or does freon run up to an evap coil? . . .

. . .Pouring rain in the form of Cats and Dogs right now, with many training storms behind this one.

Mini splits use Freon.

We just had a quick 1.25" of cats and dogs.

Good evening all. 70F and rain this morning, 2.9 in last 24 hours. high was 83, skies cleared off to partly cloudy, light wind. Packing for consulting trip to STL, got the worst of the lawn mowed, won't get much done tomorrow, travel day and visit mom. No Internet at my lodging so check-ins will be sporadic.

Got a shower valve that won't stop leaking. Swapped the working part, with the ball valve and rubber gaskets, with identical parts from basement shower, and it still leaks upstairs. One that was originally leaking upstars does not leak when installed in the basement. The part i swapped does all the work, opens hot and cold and mixes into shower outlet pipe. The base part of the valve has water inlets and showet pipe output. Maybe a hole has formed between an inlet and the outlet in the base?
Going to be a pita to replace, gotta tear out a wall, probably remove the sink cabinet also.

Strange how that "stuck" thing happens when you are not right near your backup help.

We've got 1.6" in 30 minutes and it finally let up. I even "let" TxDon have some rain. At least I tried to send it that way.

Some of the Austin TV stations are forecasting up to 16" south of Austin by tomorrow night. Hope it comes reasonably slow.

Just started raining here, looks like it will be a wet night.

Eric, have all of these knife and gun regulations made the British public safer?

Is crime on the rise or decline in the UK as a result?

These are ongoing questions here in the US.

Thanks

Actually safer ? No one can ever really know the answer to that. I am sure that many people who are personally unaffected by such regulations feel safer.

The reality is that many of these well intentioned regulations only apply to law abiding people - criminals do as they please.

Statistically, there are ways the general public could all be actually much safer - say if everyone unaffected by such regulations stopped driving their cars for pleasure every other weekend. They won't do that of course, so reducing deaths and injuries is not the true issue.

Good morning all. Thought last night that the rain was over, so we went to sleep with the window above the bed slightly open, the wind having dropped to a gentle breeze. Rain had different thoughts, it woke me at first light and I found I was half washed before even getting out of bed.

... Feeling my mortality today.

I had a dream a while ago in which my life was coming to an end, with only a day or two left and I just couldn't believe that all my time had gone. "I'm not ready yet" were the words in my head as I woke up. That day I thought hard about what I did each day and considered if I should draw up a bucket list. Nope, couldn't think of anything to put on it and when I asked my wife if she wanted to go on holiday, or do anything that we hadn't already got planned, she drew a blank too. At that point I realised how lucky we are to be content with what we have.

You aren't ready yet either RNG and not much we can do about it anyway, so keep on with what you enjoy, for as many years as you can. When the time eventually does come, those fortunate enough to have strong religious beliefs have plenty of great experiences yet to come. For the rest of us - well, we can look forward to taking one heck of a nap :)

Good morning all. &0 here this morning going to 83 with a 100% chance of rain. NWS says we can expect between a 1/10 and 1/4 of an inch, sure doesn't look like it will be a Texas size rain but we will take it. Hope you guys are staying safe and dry down there. Hope to have an easy Sunday and maybe an afternoon nap but they seem to be hard to find around here.

Have a great day Ed

Heading to 88, but 72 now and heavy dew again. I usually time my trip to the gym and to run errands in the morning while the dew dries, but that puts me in the fields, woods or yard during the hottest part of the day.

Yesterday's 92 wasn't too bad since the humidity dropped, and only got damp, not sopping from sweat, while bush hogging two fields. Had the pleasure, and entertainment for about 2 hours of dozens of purple martins and barn swallows diving and swooping around me, to snatch the thousands of leaf hoppers, grass hoppers and other insects fleeing the attack of my Woods 72" cutter. It seems to always start with one or two birds, and then I guess they go get their friends, because it turns into a synchronized acrobatic feeding frenzy. This is one of the reasons I like the open cab on my tractor; however, the main reason is because I don't have a cab.

59 right now..feels bit cooler, actually. Forecast is a high of 80 and a 60% chance of thunderstorms or rain.
All the mowing was done yesterday...well, I could finish the field. I brought some work home that I need to have by Monday.
I guess that's about it...if time allows, and the heat isn't as oppressive as yesterday, might put another 100 rounds through the .22's

Good morning all. Has to be better than how I ended up yesterday.
Who would think I would have plowed into a bear...
Pitch black country road coming home from dinner, never saw it, dark instead of tan like a deer, low, big, and what a huge crash. Came out of a low ditch near the road, invisible. Hit hard enough to bend both tow hooks back, but did not break grill luckily.
One thousand dollar deductible. Expensive dinner....sigh.

First cup of coffee has been poured. 61° with mostly clear skies this morning. Heading to 73° with chance of late afternoon rain. Got .1" of rain yesterday. Cut all the lawn for first ime since June. Visit to sons was for them to show off their new camper trailer. Nice Popup. We were also suppose to take a trip to his local gun range for me to try out my new gun. A Ruger LC9s. But rain moved in at his place early. Canceling that part of trip. Instead we sat at his kitchen table dissembling and cleaning guns. Grand kids took over my gun and showed me how to do this better and faster than I will ever be able to. Both have taken classes on how to shoot and handle guns. 12 and 14 years old. I did get to show how well a UpLula Magazine Loader/Unloader works. My CPL class will be done without me ever firing my gun before. Unless I get time to go to local state gun range this week.
Wngsprd, had a bunch of swallows around me when I cut back lawn. Been a couple of months since they been able to do that.
Eric, my guess if we could take all the guns away from criminals we would not have a gun problem in the USA. I think we should come up with a new law for that. :mur:
Drew, going to be more damage than you think. If tow hooks got bent back. Did the bear walk away?
Good Morning All.

Did the bear walk away?

could not find him/her. Maybe back down in the ditch
Need to pop hood shortly and make sure various radiators and other sensitive stuff not damaged.
I'm surprised the airbag didn't go off actually.
What is most annoying is I now have a suspension fault code on the car, it's going into the shop on Tuesday likely for all week, and now
my reliable vehicle likely can't be driven. Will see after I pull off that air dam.

Just as well you hadn't taken the Jag

that's exactly what I thought Jim!
that all aluminum body would have been wrecked; might have totalled the car.
Was very happy to see no leaks under truck this morning.
I could never have driven the car home...
