Hey rs ! Yeah ... thanks ... great idea ! I think I will give it a try for general de-rusting up in the shop ... I certainly don't want to bring this muriatic acid inside - with the fumes and all - once the weather starts getting bad ... I think I'd read or heard that there is a stronger version ... "cleaning vinegar" ... or something like that ... that can be used for de-rusting ... Sounds like it would be ideal, where you could toss something in it and not have to worry about it being ate up if you forgot about it for a while. And speaking of forgetting about stuff ... when I opened up the 5 gallon bucket of phosphoric acid a while back to de-rust some stuff for a neighbor, I fished around down in there and found a u-shaped piece of metal I had stuck in there ... about 10 years ago ...

It's one (of two) seat mounts for our old Cub Cadet 782 that I had started to restore ... I'll have to dig out the other one and see how they compare ... I was surprised the one in the acid bucket was still even there.
