David, thank you. Sorry to all who get grossed out by these kinds of pictures. But since a lot of us hard-working, hard playing folk seem to wind up getting this wrist operation, well, you can sure see what it looks like.
And David, your hand looks as puffy and swollen as mine does. This too shall pass.

Drew,

First, I am serious about you need to plan at least a brief stop at MossFlower Woods when you hit the road...

Second, I did my right hand the traditional way in mid/late October 2011 and broke the incision open when I crashed my Harley and broke my collar bone (I was no the way to the hospital to drop off the paperwork for the surgery for my Left hand BTW). That got put on hold you can imagine... I built all my horse fence in Nov/Dec '11 with a broken collar bone and my carpal tunnel incision healing backwards (from the bottom up - yes it looked very gross, sorry no pics) I did not do my Left hand until May '12. And even then I had to reschedule it so I cold attend to my baby brothers suicide in Oregon...

I used the bst hand DR for 100's of miles, but I had TERRIBLE luck. The rt hand, took forever to heal and regain strength so I wanted to try the orthoscopic for the left, and it was WORSE. The incision was nothing but it hurt like h3ll for months and months and I was afraid they would need to do the surgery again! finally it healed and is wonderful now.

These pics are from 5-14-12 the day of surgery...

Yes sir, this too did pass... Keep on healing yours and follow DR's orders better than I do please...

Be well,
David

Good evening. 2125, cloudy, 49F with 85% humidity. Forecast low of 43F tonight and a high of 67F with 50% chance of rain tomorrow. After dinner today we went for a walk. Even though there was no mention of rain in the forecast, we got sprinkled on before we made it back to the house. We didn't get too wet, and it wasn't that cold anyway. Watching the Pro Bowl now. I like the changes they have made. All the players are playing hard. It's been years since you could say that.

Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes for Mamma. She is a tough old coot, and seems to have bounced back pretty quickly.
Everyone have a good night.

........I bought a humidifier for the bedroom and it seems to be able to keep the humidity in the mid-30%. I'd like to see it get higher than that, but it never makes it. With forced air heating, it sure does get dry. We simply found that we could breathe better with a humidifier on.
Years ago when the kids were small, the pediatrician recommended we install a whole house humidifier, and recommended a brand called Aprilaire. Mounts right on your cold air return - uses an ice maker type water supply and needs a drain close. Has it's own humidistat to control the humidity level. Works great! And the doctor even wrote us a script, so it was tax deductible. This was probably around '92 and the installed price then was around $200.

I can raise or lower the humidity level throughout the entire house by simply dialing in whatever percentage I want.

Buppies,

When you say "slag" is that the ground up asphalt?

From my big iron gates at the entry of the property all the way to the concrete pad in the carport, I had someting like 46 yards of recycled concrete dropped. Most of the road is a serious hardpack/hardball and I have no potholes on my property except right at the last little bit before the concrete pad. and honestly I believe those were pre-existing.

I would REALLY like to fix the pot holes in the easment between the end of the pavement and my gates.

Thanks,
David

Slag is the by product of mini mills electric furnace steel producers like Steel Dynamatics of Salem,Va What you are referring to is milling material or ground up asphalt that you might see being done on the interstate where the existing asphalt is ground down mostly done by large white machines with orange letters, Wirtgen is a prominate manufacturer. The ground up asphalt can be spread with a box blade best done in heat of summer then spray a light coat of diesel over surface.when sun heats this up old tar and stone in milling re bond together. Not environmentally friendly though. Best to catch when work is being done close by. Slag on the other hand sets up with water is a metal byproduct and will last a long time, however if you ever plan to pave do not use as asphalt and slag do not mix. The slag gives off a gas when in contact with asphalt and will cause entire surface to look as if tree roots are growing up thru it
