I hope so... Everyone who knows me, knows that leading and stwearding my family. Being a Husband and Father. Was the most important thing in the world to me...

This new reality is not easy, nor rewarding...

Thanks for the support sir.
Be well & God Bless.
David

I need to go exercise and get rolling...

Big thunderstorms last night, some showers this morning. Had a great Fathers Day, grilled some tuna, steamed some shrimp(which I can no longer eat), sat on my new deck and generally had a good day.
My 90 year old mom brought me an apple tree Saturday that she bought at Big Lots for $10, seems like a sturdy tree. Got it planted, staked and watered. I used an old vinyl baluster that's hollow as the stake so I can dribble water right to the root ball.
Drew, David and all others hang in there, Friday's coming!:D

71 going up to 84 today, and no rain. A friend is driving me to the garden, kind of afraid what I'm going to find after not seeing it for over a week.
Que Sera, Sera
But most of all I'm happy to report that docs plan on springing my wife tomorrow and I can get her home.
what a pair we will be. Family and friends are coming in to help; I'm not even supposed to be doing wash but I pick away at it slowly and try not to bend over too much. I've found the room will swirl quite nicely if I do things too quickly, which already seems like slo mo. This turtle is going to win the race...

many times every night I reach over to touch my wife, and she's not there. A very empty feeling and when she gets home, I don't think we'll stop holding hands for days.

Most of you have heard of an Amish barn raising, where all the neighbors get together and build the barn, which is too much for one person to do.
Not a tradition in the Quaker culture, but I have a feeling the Elders at Meeting are cooking up something to have a weed in. Since the garden is on the farm of one of our oldest members, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Pacifism for sure does not extend to weeds...:)

Drew, had to pass along a story from around 40-45 years ago. In Gates County,NC there was a large enclave of Plain Mennonites, we use to take all the chrome off their shiny black cars, or paint it black if it wouldn't come off practically. Next to one of their farms was a small Quaker community. One day in a family owned grocery store in Sunbury there was a chance meeting between Mr. Coons and Mr. Moyer. They were talking of the Vietnam war and pacifism came up. Mr. Moyer said;"I don't believe in violence but I will defend myself in a fight. Brother Coons, if you were slapped in this store today, as a pacifist is it so that you would allow the other cheek be slapped while blessing the man which slapped you?" Mr. Coons looks at Mr. Moyer and said;" Brother JB, I'm a pacifist, not a fool..." :D

After a nice 0.82" rain shower this morning, I picked cucumbers and squash plus one 10.4 ounce BHN 602 tomato. It was surely not the biggest tomato in my patch either. Tomato overload season is on the horizon.

Randy,
that's a wonderful story.
We used to call them Black Bumper Mennonites. Only saw a few of their cars, most driven fairly slowly and carefully.
Like a good horse...
Now I'm a car guy and it made me cringe at first seeing a nice new Chevrolet with all the trim painted flat black. And usually the lowest trim
model with bench seats for big families.

Not a topic for here, but the differences between the Amish, Mennonites and Quakers are significant. But tied together with a common belief in
a peaceful way of life lived as simply as possible. Now I must admit the luck of the draw had me growing up in a Philadelphia suburb, in a highly educated area, where the historic local Quakers had run the Underground Railroad and today half the cars on the road are BMW's and Land Rovers. Just another blinged out suburb dotted with little pockets of older farming families. William Penn would shudder in his grave.

As I get older and understand the world realities more clearly, I worry more about the seeming folly of approaching a sabre tooth tiger armed with a pencil, or even a holy book. We must defend ourselves. And how best to do that will be a topic of discussion that none of us will ever hear the end to.

And Randy, since my nickname in High School was Dual Quad, well..., let's say things were pretty liberal around here.

I was around a goodly number of Mennonites but not many Quakers. The liberal Mennonites were hard to pick out of any crowd, the plains, Amish and Quakers in my area tended to dress more in their tradition and were noticeable. The Amish were more likely to cross into mainstream than were the plains or Quakers in my area. I very much respected them for their willingness to stick to their beliefs, often in the face of ridicule, especially the youth.
I was more a three deuces guy, as in my '66 GTO. :D
