I'm behind by a few days. Need to catch up.

We just got our first band of rain from Beryl at 2:50 pm. More coming.

Expecting gusts up to 60mph tomorrow.

I went and got my mother, who lives in Victoria. The primary threat for her is multiple days of power outage. Claudette and Harvey had power outages of over a week. So many old trees tend to fall on the lines.

Where you live will be a big factor of the rain/wind you get. TxDon might get very little, as he is about 70 miles northwest of me. Those east of me might get 8" or more. I'm hoping for some rain.

God has recently answered some prayers for two different people I know. Prayers for our team, our nation, Ukraine and ******.

Is that a Bucyrus I see in one of those pics Lou?
That's an old Dynahoe 190-4, a beast of a digging machine when she was in good shape. It needs more work then I'm up too now days.

Good day today. Good worship service this morning, and a good meal at the usual Italian place afterwards.
Stayed inside and watched youtube this afternoon, then back for a church meeting and evening worship and class.
recycle is out for tomorrow, stomach filled with a couple more leftover Brats, kitties are feed and roaming. Still 83 deg out after 8 pm.
I did find my old small tablesaw hiding in the closet under the basement stairs, but didn't get down to see what brand. I know it's smaller than 10" blade.
guess I better make sure my projects are a go before buying new tools.

I'm interested in getting some remote cameras so I can check in while away. Interested to see how Ring does.
are there any that don't charge you a monthly fee?
  • You can use a Ring doorbell without a subscription plan, but you won't be able to save or play back video without one. You'll only be able to watch a live stream from your camera.
  • The first 30 days you get a free subscription.
  • Basic plan $49.99 year
  • How Much Does a Ring Subscription Cost? (2024)

Dennis, that is the reason I would never own property that has an association attached to it! In my daughter's subdivision, the HOA setbacks exceeded the county requirements. Someone put up a beautiful timber frame carport that matched their house.... 5' past the county's 25', but under the HOA setback by 5'. The HOA tried suing them, the homeowner counter sued, including the individual members of the HOA.
Guess what? The homeowner won, had judgments placed against the individuals for damages, and the HOA was disbanded.
That would never happen with our HOA because no carports are allowed and all building/remodeling must be approved before starting. Everyone that buys here agrees to the rules or you do not move here, you have to sign that you have read them and will abide by them. Those who lie on the form and think the rules don't apply to them soon move away.

Good Evening,
are there any that don't charge you a monthly fee?
Drew, my ring is pretty cheap ! I think Don just posted the cost !!Nothing is really cheap or for free these days ! 😉

Took Kathleen out on the lake for an early evening cruise! Really nice as sun was setting!

Ted, good work persevering in that extreme heat !!

Hope all had a good weekend! 🙏

Good (Monday) morning. The 'cold snap' is over; the overnight Low was 4.6C and it's presently 14.0C, overcast with a wee bit of rain. There was 2mm in the gauge @ 0900.

So, it's a dhobi day... although there's not much to do there. I'll call my plumber later on to get the burst pipe (out at the 'shed tank') fixed. Actually, after 11 years of service, I might as well have him plumb new the 'spare' pump in, instead of waiting for the current one to fail.

That's about it, take care all.

No rain here outside the cone. I was wondering about your mother when I saw Victoria right in the path of Beryl, glad she is safe with you. Are you off from work tomorrow?

Next month it will be 50 years ago that we were married in a Quaker Meeting. As we were married “under the care of the meeting” we had to meet with overseers from the meeting to guide us along the correct path. I’ll never forget the advice I was given to always be positive, and say things like “that was the best breakfast I had all day!”

Yup that’s the younger version of the old bald guy in Drew’s pictures.
Happy Anniversary you 2!
and Happy Anniversary to the others falling in this month!
For any of you motorcycle guys, I’m going through old bookshelves in preparation of moving to the old folks home, and found some interesting old manuals.
One is the shop manual for a Yamaha RZ500, another is a shop manual for Yamaha DT series. Free to a good home.
Oh how my wifey would tell me I have enough "stuff" already.
I wish I had an RZ500 with Toomey pipes...
Evening all;
Have a question for you guys that I will see tomorrow morning.
My wife is wanting to get a new vehicle we have been test driving some the last few days currently the two top candidates are the Chevy Equinox and the Nissan Murano both of which are in the upper trim levels with the Nissan actually leading at this time. Any body have much experience with these vehicles?

Thanks Lou
It is hard to get more than 150K out of most trannys these days. There are always exceptions. And many fall short. I had an Altima that had about 200K on the stock tranny. Heat is the main enemy of those transmissions, or pulling loads up inclines, or not coming to a complete stop before throwing the lever from reverse to drive.....

Right now, it seems that Torque Converters are not holding up like they used to, on many trucks and SUV's.

Some of the higher ended cars have regular transmissions, but you really have to dig to find out which.

I will make you guys in Texas a deal. You keep the hurricanes down there and I will keep my snow up here. ;)
You can let us have snow for a day, every other year....
OTOH, Beryl is coming up youz guyz way.....Ron might end up getting rain from this.

No rain here outside the cone. I was wondering about your mother when I saw Victoria right in the path of Beryl, glad she is safe with you. Are you off from work tomorrow?
I might work from home....I have some really long lists of purchase requests to get done.

...and some are lazy selfish.
I agree, I was trying to be nice.
You get the same attitude in truck stops. I got two trailers and can back into a spot better than some of those yokels with only one trailer.

Ron that is a nice spread you've got there.

Kyle, Toronto, Hamilton and Windsor might get the wind and rain, but I think we will only get the rain. 3.5 hours North of Toronto. 4.5 hours to Hamilton and 7 hours to Windsor by road.

Good evening all. 75ºF for the start, mostly clear, light breeze. Light wind except during thunderstorm, drove out in 15 miles, high during drive was 91ºF. Trip to Bull Shoals was good . Lots of family time and great granddaughter time, Strong thunderstorm on way home, got home later than I wanted to.

Speaking of cukes. One of our 4th of July friends showed up with 2 boxes of fresh picked cukes, those mini cukes about 6x1. Everyone got their share and we got the remaining. Sophie peeled and sliced 40 to make what we call Japanese pickles. The slices get liberally salted, sit for 12-16 hours then well rinsed and drained, excess water squeezed. Then white vinegar, mirin and sugar added. Mmmmmm.

Coffee is brewing. 63° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 86° with some clouds. Got SSQA on tractor tested it with neighbors pallet forks. Put it away on shelf until needed. Shop cleanup is still on to-do list. NASCAR race was a bust. It mostly rained in Chicago. Today is going to be a inside day because of heat. Looks like hurricane Beryl is going to affect weather here Tuesday night into Wednesday. Forecast call for over 2" of rain.

Buppies, sorry about wife not doing good. Special prayers for both of you.
