From our meeting last night.... Dominion is our supplier.

"Virginians learned for the first time that Dominion has already signed agreements with data centers to provide over 13 gigawatts of additional power by 2038."

That 13gw is an additional 8 nuclear plants required, scaled off our largest plant, Lake Anna.

Since they cannot build power plants fast enough, they will have to use transmission services accordingly.

And Dominion is not the whole state. So the whole state is a pretty bleak picture of energy demand and supply currently and for the future.
At the risk of incurring a nasty-gram…

EVs.

Did Va. dump all coal power at some point? What is the breakdown on power sources used by Dominion?

This entity is the driver of the electrical grid for our area. PJM stands for Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland.
Most of Texas is on an electrical grid independent from the rest of the country. Many voices have called for Texas to join other grids. I think we are better off independent.

Undoubtedly better off.

And you have your own mint and metals Reserve. . .

No, they (Dominion) still operates a few.

The breakdowns can be found on their web site within various reports.

"For comparison, the 2021 average mix of resources supplying Dominion Energy Virginia included: Coal (9.7%), Nuclear (29.3%), Gas (40.1%), Oil (. 2%), Hydro (. 8%), Solar (2.5%), Biomass (1.4%), Pump Storage (2.0%), PJM Resources (14.0%) [Dominion Energy Virginia, 2021 data]."

the rains have started and now a flood watch here with up to 7 inches of rain tomorrow. Oh my. Well my OBX adventure was only 4 inches, maybe that was my warmup.
thank goodness this rv doesn't leak. And for the part that does, I"m managing. Waiting for call to second mobile tech.

really convenient my friend's home is five minutes away from this campground. I'll be headed back at 4pm to have dinner with them, needed a nap first.

good thing I don't dissolve because I think it's going to get mighty wet here soon.

The power failures in 2021 due to natural gas deliveries being reduced and lack of winterizations for the power plants coupled with 42 percent of the power plants being fired by natural gas could have been avoided with a grid tie in

Maybe those problems have been fixed?
could have been avoided with more coal plants.

hard anthracite coal run though stack scrubbers can run fairly clean, but likely not as clean as LNG. Our air is statistically cleaner since we reduced the burning of coal for electricity, but maybe because those old plants never got scrubbers. The power plant in Trenton NJ has been running on coal for a long time. It definitely got scrubbers, several times. Only reason that part of the Delaware River was kept dredged and cleared so that barges of coal could come upriver from Philadelphia to the power plant at Trenton.

pretty durable fuel, just dump it on the ground...

if they are waiting for 9 new nuke plants, well good luck. Doesn't it take ten years for them to be approved and built?

wind is picking up, over 20 mph sustained with lots of higher gusts.
almost sounds like being in a washing tub with the wind and water blasting on the outside. Really is a difference this being fresh water though since the wind is off the ocean, might not be all that fresh.

Had to laugh when picturing Scott in his speedo holding a colorful umbrella drink on a tropical island standing up and sitting down quickly trying to beat my time.
Good Evening Don,
Wow, that would be a sight, wouldn’t it ! 😂
Haven’t had a Speedo on since I was on the high school swim team, back in the sixties ! 😂
Did get a good chuckle on that one !

Hope all have a good evening !

Texas does have a bullion depository now but I'm not aware we are minting our own currency. Yet. :)
Well, the facilities are there… and possession is 9/10s when push comes to shove…

Maybe they have, if reliance upon unreliable sources like wind and solar have been accounted for.

“No Nukes!” Was a death knell.
