On the flip side, brown rice can also have high amounts of arsenic (depending on source) and contains phytic acid, which impedes the absorption of essential minerals like zinc and iron. The glycemic index of white rice can be lowered by cooking, refrigerating overnight, and reheating the next day. The cooling/reheating process converts the starch to a less-digestible form. By pairing rice with other healthy accompaniments, to losses from removing the “brown parts” is offset.

if one is really cynical, one may posit that the brown rice craze was started to simultaneously reduce processing costs while raising prices for a “healthier” product…
Do the pros of brown rice outweigh the cons of arsenic? Here is the answer.

I do like the nuttier flavor of brown rice from time to time. Sophie grew up on white only, maybe due to her Mom coming from Osaka. Me, my Mom made Uncle Ben’s mostly.

Drew- I am sorry to read about your molar. I recently had a similar experience. I use those plastic PIC sticks. They work pretty well until one of my "sharp/cracked/chipped" teeth shreds the fibers.

I too like those plastic ones with the floss, but inevitably I’ll break the very tip. Still like the old fashion wooden toothpick.

Happy Birthday Ted. I wish you many more trips around the sun in good health and happiness. I hope that your birthday expectations are met or even better, exceeded.

I only do this at home at this point, but I will use the PIC sticks and/or floss during 🍸 🍸. The sticks are also good at removing an occasional errant🐕 hair that may fall into the🍸

This afternoon's weather is turning out better than predicted with more sun than clouds. The current 55ºF is today's high temperature so far.

Yes, but we have other varieties as well. A couple shades of orange from almost red to yellow and the local grown purple (not that sweet). Different sizes as well.
I'm looking to start some slips from the white ones. have you been successful with a particular method?

Letting Sophie pick them at Safeway works pretty good.

Local farmers grow the Okinawan, i tried some orange from eye sprouts, good vines but not so good on the potatoes.

Finished drilling the fence post holes this afternoon so now I can put up the rest of the poles. The auger caught the wire fence and got it all twisted up. Stopped the auger before it went really bad. Flowers are still looking good.

LS happy birthday

Good Morning!!!! 68F @ 6:45AM. Partly cloudy. High 93F. Winds light and variable.
Way too warm for this early in the year.

Nice job with the glue, Drew. I won't complain if you have to cover up any light leaks with black electrical tape. That'll add a nice RedNeck flourish.🤣
Your note about the birdbath sprinkler reminds me to see if the one here is still getting water from the drip system, or if I need to start filling it by hand. The only time the pump on the sprinkler runs is in direct sunlight, though.

That's a LOT of sore fish lips, Mark. Also sounds like way too much fun!

I once told an attorney in a courtroom that the only sure cure for recidivism was the death penalty. Didn't make it onto that jury, either.

Just my opinion, but there really is no way to prevent a crazed person from committing another mass shooting. Access to firearms, anywhere in the world, is such that anyone can get one if they work hard enough at it and break enough laws without getting caught. That leaves the response when it happens. Do you hope the person lives to make it to a court room? Or is some prepared witness to the act able to nip it in the bud and stop the person before it becomes a mass killing? That approach seems to work in ****** and other places...

KJC, the system here uses 2 @ Outback FM100-D00VDC Charge Controllers. One of them was DOA upon installation, but they were easy enough to get at the time that it didn't take them long to replace it. Lithium batteries have a very flat voltage vs. discharge curve, so it's tricky to set the parameters for the charge controllers. I'm told lead/acid batteries are somewhat easier to work with, if that matters in your system.

Yesterday the contractors finished framing the porch cover and got a coat of primer on it, and now we're waiting to find a roof contractor. Once that's done, we'll know what color roofing steel is available, and can get on with picking compatible colors for the paint on the house. I noticed that the plywood on the underside of the porch roof has created something of an echo chamber on the back porch now. Somewhat distracting when I'm making a phone call out there.

Busy day yesterday running errands in the morning, starting with a trip to the Oroville PO to pick up a certified letter. Had to sign for it in person. It was from a lumber store used by the porch work contractor, as he'd required them to sign a lean waiver when he bought materials from them. It seemed rather retaliatory to me, making me go out of my way so far to get their letter, which only contained information I already knew.

Then a long drive to Chico for new gate batteries and other stuff. Got home after lunch, and spent the rest of the day doing little jobs like installing mud flaps on the Camry and the batteries on the gate. Had to reprogram the keypad again, but it seems to be working now.

Also finished packing for a trip to SoCal today, and have a couple of new listings to look at, though neither one of them are especially promising. I'll at least get to meet the new realtor in person, though.

Hang in there gang, Friday's comin'!
Outback FM100-D00VDC

oh wow - that is a SYSTEM controller — I just need something for a single Marine Cycle 12v battery in a black box next to the gate!!!

About a dozen/15 years ago, there was a photo of an Escalade on a garage lift, where the owner had pulled in because of “a noise and vibration from underneath “.

Seems she ran over a mattress, and something hooked into a u-joint on the driveshaft, and as she proceeded down the road, nature took its course.

yours doesn’t look anywhere near as bad - picture a giant metallic paper wasp nest under the vehicle…

i tried finding it on Teh Interwebz, but i have been unsuccessful
