Good morning!!!!

/ Good morning!!!! #154,982
64°F and clear skies this morning, and got up to 83° today.

Been keeping super busy at work, out in the shop. Not much time in the office at all, so no time to check in here in the mornings lately. Still not caught up either.

Hope everyone is well.

Good evening, gents.
I've been so busy, the days fly by at my new job. Playing "Whack-a-mole". I look at my watch just to check if I have another meeting to be at in a different room. But I love it, my knees not so much. I told my wife, I need a "mindless task weekend". I'm thinking of asking my physician at my physical next week, what it takes to get a handicap card. My knees have been in multiple incidents and my right knee is getting painful when climbing or descending stairs...I'm wondering what the parameters are for getting one is? Does anyone take shark cartilage supplements? GNC NATURAL BRAND SHARK CARTILAGE, 90ct - GNC Guam
therapeutic only, bathroom is tiny, would not fit larger anything.

plumber left, I figured an hour of work and it was.
had 200 in cash ready for him. 295, one hour's work, he lives 1/2 mile away on same road.
definitely underestimated local pricing.
Wow! If I ever change occupations to being a plumber, I'm moving up there. He's the only one who can afford a house up there (that's not "old money").
I have used Royal Oak and B&B lump, but have settled on Kingsford Hardwood Briquettes. It’s very consistent and I get great burn times, the Brisket that I just did went 17 hours and I never opened the firebox, I had to snuff the fire when it was finished.
I do add a few chunks of smoke wood, but I’m thinking even that is a waste of time.

Thank you for the well wishes. She is home and asleep, minus one disc.
Glad to hear your wifey is doing so well after her surgery. Hope she continues to get better.
Good evening! Haven’t been in the house too long, been outside all day. Another pleasant day in Ohio.

Got the mowing done. Wife helped, first time she has mowed in a month. Being gone for almost 3 weeks with her mother passing kept her off the mowing. She enjoyed it, think she missed the seat time.

Been making parts for the race bike I won last fall. It was an assemblage of parts. Have a radiator mount that actually supports the radiator and a master cylinder reservoir mount that doesn’t involve an incorrectly sized P-clamp around a frame tube done among other things I have made

Exhaust mounting is next along with fixing the mess that the PO considered a wire harness. Turns out the way it was wired, the electrical system wasn’t actually off when the switch was off, just the coils, injectors, and fuel pump were off. ECU, relay box, and sensors were still on.

Not sure what tomorrow will bring.

Everyone stay safe out there
Glad your wifey is feeling better and back home. I like to see your progress on the bike. If you look closely, you can see some Bultaco thru the kawi frame :)
64°F and light fog this morning, going up to 91° today. Warming back up to more typical August weather for the next few days.

I've lived in this area my whole life. Honestly, I've never really seriously contemplated moving somewhere else, until last year when The Wife and I considered moving to central Texas. In the end, we didn't, so I'm still here. Aside from the asinine politics of my state, southern Illinois is a pretty nice place to live.

Good morning, gents.
That's a BIG aside PJS....a BIG aside.
Great perspective, Drew.
And some I have thought about from time to time.
I guess in many ways we are what we grew up. As a kid we moved fairly often, especially when my Dad worked construction. Mom put her foot down after my freshman year in HS and they relocated to 110 acres just 10 miles up the road. But again, a new place, new school, new church, etc but also a complete break with all the old. By the time I finished HS I was still considered an out of towner. I’ve pretty much continued the pattern over the year, just longer intervals. Sophie’s childhood wasn’t so different growing up a military brat. Sometimes it is amazing that the 17 years we’ve been here is the longest either of us has lived anywhere in our lives. No plans to move either. But I guess if there is a downside, neither of us have those longterm friends like grace your live. I don’t think it’s something we try to do on purpose, just kinda happens. Precovid we were pretty active, knew and interacted with a fair number of people we think of friends. Guess a sign of these modern times, but many on here, that I’ve never met in person I consider a friend.
I miss riding motorcycles with my old friends back in my hometown.
This story was in the news today. U.S. report identifies 21 'filtration' locations run by Russia for processing Ukrainians

This is the work of our adopted daughter working for the State Department. She conceived of the program, got congressional funding, put it out for bid and managed the program among many others and on top of that she is new to the State Department having been there less than a year
Wow, prayers for that situation...and for pUtIn to get his head on straight.
Started early this a.m. Went to Gatton to choose a washing machine and then came home and checked results with Lesley. Did some research on computer then went and bought one I had never heard of before. It is a CHiQ. Chinese, but so are they all now. $520 for a 8 KG top loader with a 5 year warranty. Half the price of others and a lot more warranty. To me it has similar traits to a LG. Same dimensions as our old one but washes more clothes. Old 6.5 KG - 8 KG for new one. Seems to work OK. put a load through it. By the time I installed my BP was high and had to lie down for a while. Was going to mow some lawn today but decided against it.

Dr just rang and is having a consult with seniors. Trying to decide if I have to go to Hospital or to the surgery tomorrow. eeerk.
Will update when I can.
Prayers for you and your wifey.

Stock market went down DJI -1000. today...about 3-4% in one day. Glad it doesn't affect me.

We only got .08" of rain, still have large cracks in ground.

I consider you all to be good friends. And I miss those that are not posting here. Maybe they'll reconsider having left, if they know we are missing them? Just a thought...

I come here for the friendship, knowledge, stories and great pics! Watch out for those hornets Billy, you might have to outrun that buck getting away. I would want dual 32oz size cans of Raid wasp spray in both hands, with 2 more backups in each cargo pocket.

Drew, much better bits, with the split point grind, but I didn't see the key word I look for "Hss-Cobalt". They say High Molybdenum, not sure where that stands in the scheme of steels. Chicago-Latrobe. Nachi makes a good bit too. Some bits are crazy expensive and I'd only recommend if you were in a production situation making money. Look up an OSG SuS drill...as with anything, good drilling starts with a rigid setup, and the force HP necessary to push the drill to make chips while blasting coolant. At my former job just making small quantities in a prototype situation, I babied drills and took small pecks. But I didn't have to buy replacement drills every time I needed to drill a hole....and they wondered why I was so picky about who went into my toolcrib....

Prayers for Bupps and wife, Popgadget's wife, Randy, LS4, mostly's wife, Dave and Sophie, those in silent need, our country and Ukraine.

Good evening all. 69ºF for the start, partly cloudy, very light breeze. llight wind, sky cloded up some more, and high temp was 90ºF, HI 94ºF. Bike ride to start the day, was going to mow front, but not enough time before lunch and eye exam. Trip to town to get new form-a-gasket and cabin filter for truck, lunch and eye exam. Cataracts are growing but not issue eyes look good minimal change in prescription from last time. Glasses will take two weeks and are expensive ($600) :( Did get nap, eyes did not light the amount of sunlight after dilation :(
I buy cheep glasses from Zenni, decent quality. You can send them back if unhappy I believe. Did I mention Cheeeep?

good Saturday morning all
another warm sunny day here in Eastern PA.

we have a lot of wives who need to heal, to take care of the rest of us who are falling apart anyway...

battery tester has been on old Optima battery all night. It shows green on smart charger, but battery dies almost immediately.
I think it's a goner. Likely headed out for new battery this morning. Battery box is really big, could fit a group 31 battery, and might, but a 27
will work too. 550 cca enough, I'm looking for 750 this time, or more. I am likely to head to Napa and get a good Legend battery, made by East Penn.
Have had good luck with them in past. As Popgadget mentioned, like buying gasoline, helps to buy from store that moves product. I don't want a battery with a layer
of dust on it.

got my rattle can paint, 15 bucks a can from Ariens, nice markup on that for sure. Also got a new set of blades and blade bolts so hope to have a little quality seat time in garage today.
Invited a friend over to sit and keep me company. None of us can easily crawl under a mower any more, bad backs, knees, necks, etc....but my normal helper is on the injured waiting list right now so under the mower I go. Neck already hurts from sleeping on it wrong last night, this blade changing will not help.
but being stupid has never stopped me. I'm getting good at it! practice makes perfect

have a good weekend guys

it's sort of morning here, let's just say I'm awake between a series of naps. 3 AM and the wind is loud.
I was out for most of the day (Friday) and ended the night with the ice cream cruisers at a local car show (1/2 hr drive) and then a burn-out competition. couldn't see a thing until the smoke cleared. a good night, I was passenger in a '96 Impala (nice comfortable car). El Camino still not running ... but some of the guys will be coming by this week to give me a hand figuring out the issue - probably very minor one.

I just lost a good chunk of this post again, sorry guys

mostly_ most of the truck stuff is routine, I just want it ready for the 8 hrs trip one way, towing a trailer. it needs a little TLC if it is going that far. (spark plugs, oil change, check brakes, confirm good wiring ... those are the priorities). Thanks for your posts, gives me everything in a glance, for the days when i am 10 pages behind :)

Kyle - also a good post to keep me in the loop

needed to continue my education on drill bits.
The ones I bought are built to an aerospace standard for size, but nowhere in explanation do I see any indication of hardness.
these got a 4.7 on Amazon with over 500 reviews so I figure they must be fairly durable. For intended use.
I'm not a machine shop or production facility. These are made by a company named Viking in St Paul MN I think.
NAS 907 Standard Drills for Aerospace Manufacturing
and they look like the type that can be sharpened.
next step up in line is something nitrided:
Nitride process diffuses nitrogen into the surface to create a case hardening resulting in superior tool life and exceptional corrosion resistance

again no reference to hardness. Isn't hardness relevant?
in addition to proper drilling techniques like properly sized pilot hole.
bet all you machinists will know. Like saying something is tool steel. What does that mean?

and even if it says cobalt, is there just one cobalt standard? And where did they mine that cobalt?....down the rabbit hole.

Scaredy, always liked the "whale" Impala.
Nice one is worth 4k today. SS worth 25k.
Big comfy car. Police loved them, big and good handling.
Small block V8 or fairly powerful V6, either a good engine.
glad you had fun

The outside LED yard light was installed yesterday. It has the dusk to dawn sensor and an on off switch. These LED lights are really bright and lights up a large area. Also put in a 100 amp aux panel in the basement for adding several mini split ac systems. I have been collecting tools and supplies to be able to install these myself. Hopefully that will work out ok. Still pondering how to drill through the stone foundation wall being 24 inch thick?
IMG_0953.jpegIMG_0953.jpegWeather is great today and will continue mowing around the tree plantings. The zero turn mower is really great for that job.

60F clear sky nice steady breeze upper 70's for high.
Yesterday after first of 2 down pours and winds were  might have wash the spots of the fawns. ;)

Outside chores done E muffin time.
Plans for today...Notice right rear tire flat as pancake  told Mrs. and she said we have road side service and pay $$'s for it and will call, not sure I want to wait, other than that it's a putter day.

Enjoy your day all.

67 going to 89...maybe a rain.

Kyle, glad the job is keeping you challenged...sorry about your knees. Never tried that stuff...just use ibuprofen and Ben-Gay or Icy Hot or generic when my knees act up. That hornet nest was a small one, but I watched a number of them come and go through that little hole in the bottom. It was odd they built it on a low small branch...looked like it bent over as they added weight and size to it.

Buppies, enjoy your trip down to Winston...haven't been there in just about forever. You like going there better than Roanoke?

Sodamo, time to beat Sophie in a little H&F?

Bought some special plastic cement to use on my spray tank, and a few tips...hope to finish my repairs and make it good as new today...and use it if no wind. Right now it's dead still, and the fog patches are burning off.

baby lima beans being picked

M7040 nice Kubota snapshot, earning their keep. What a nice looking UTV but once you get a little older
we need a nice ride. That looks happily weatherproof. Be fun to take it out in a snowstorm

79° this morning for a low and going for a sunny 93° with almost no breeze at the moment. Sure hope our Animal Control folks are working today because I just found that I have another skunk in my live trap. That's the second one this month. I reckon it's best that we no longer have a dog that could tangle with a skunk.

Dark and 62 now, going to 93 today. Been hot and muggy. This will be the coolest day in months. Been as hot as 105º here in so cal this summer. Hasn't rained in months. We are ready for some cooler wetter weather. Worked on the tractor roof yesterday. Will put it on later and see what we built. ;)
Today or tomorrow I'm putting a Lithium battery in the golf cart. More on that later. Have a great day

Good Morning!!!! 73F @ 4:30AM. Plentiful sunshine. High 97F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.
Last night's TV weatherman predicted a low 90s high. Guess he didn't read the WU prediction. Like the man with two watches doesn't know what time it is...

All I know, Drew, is that the Sears Craftsman bits I purchased 30 years ago are pretty good steel. Replacements with the Vermont brand, not so much. I'd be comfortable with a 4.7 Amazon review, but still scan the one star reviews to see if there are any consistent problems mentioned. It is a good sign, though, that the manufacturer mentions the set is suitable for drilling stainless steel. The carbides in the steel are hard on cutting edges. I don't think a nitride coating makes much of a difference, as it's thin and wears off easily. Sharpen the bit once, and it's gone. These videos are done well, very comprehensive, but there's something about his voice. I've been very pleased with Bosch concrete bits in the SDS hammer drill, and had I to do again, I'd spend a bit more (no pun intended) and spring for Bosch twist drills, too. I keep buying Walmart batteries and they keep doing a good job.

Replaced the headlight lens on the new red bike yesterday, and found the headlight rim dented where something hit it. No surprise that the crack in the lens started at the dent. I was able to pound enough of the dent out to reuse the rim, but a replacement sourced off ebay will make it a lot easier to get back on next time. Now to wade through all the reviews and find a good LED "bulb". The place I've been getting them from seems to have gone into hibernation.

Wasted the rest of the day on paperwork. Or maybe these days we should be calling it computer/telephone work?

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

59F and sunny @ 07:15, heading up to a high of around 83F for the day. Much less humid with the dew point down to 57F this morning. High hit 84.4F yesterday. Supposed to be warmer tomorrow with a high near 90F.

Went to bed late and woke up early @ 04:00 due to being overheated by the fur ball pressed up against my chest. Couldn't fall back asleep.

Got the logs from the limb removal moved over to the woods yesterday, also some of the brush/branches. Rest of it will have to be cut shorter to be able to maneuver it to the brush pile in the back with the pallet forks.

Air cleaner prefilter for the Cub washed out, should be dry by now but I haven't checked it this morning. Will blow out the air filter, change the oil and oil filter later today. Also need to mow later today.

Swapped out pallet forks for bucket and then raked out center south end of garden and gathered up more rocks and some weeds and took those up to the compost pile.

Got the 10 King Kong Strawberry plants planted, also 1 more rhubarb plant that survived. Still have a few more strawberry plants to go, but generally had bad luck with the other varieties. No big surprise there as they didn't look all that great to begin with. Last batch of EarliGlow's appeared to be moldy.

Have a couple more eggplants to get in the ground today. Probably make up a couple of 2' tall cages for them.

Deer seem to be leaving most of the stuff in the garden alone ... other than tromping around and nipping on the tomato plants a bit.

Weeded around west peach tree and got 4' tall cage installed around it.

Young neighbor recovered most of his arborist gear except for an older chainsaw. Got the story on how his truck was recovered: he was out riding around with his girlfriend in her car and saw some guy driving it, pulled up next to him at a light, got out and snatched the guy out of the truck and took it back ...

Took two hours for the police to show up to make a report ...

He's due to come over in a couple of hours to start taking down the gutters. Hopefully that will go pretty quick, then see what other trouble we can get into.

Hope everyone has a great Saturday ... (y)

I was told the building isn't worth fixing, but I can't just leave it alone.
I had the towable lift for two days. Boy those are nice. My plan was to slide the "new" panels under the edges of the old corregated ones, and that proved to be very difficult. They kept getting hung up on the underlying perlins and cedar shingles. I'll need to rent it again to finish the job. The scaffold only allowed me to get the lower pieces up, as they too will need work to slide under the top panels. $80 spent on screws, silicone and 1x4 trim, $1,000 on lift rentals (scissor for inside rafter work, boom lift for outside) but zero on panels. Will wait for the predicted rain/storms to pass and get back after it Monday, I think.

This s*&* was easier when I was young(er)...

Good morning! 75˚ F heading into the 90's, yesterday was a little too warm for comfort at 98˚ during Whippers evening walk.

I did finish the painting without having to paint the entire room, I still have a good steady hand to cut in the corners!

Got some seat time in yesterday also by mulching the walkway next to my raised bed. Beans have ben pulled, too hot for them to produce. The garden was dry so the irrigation is back on, Okra and tomatillos picked, best chance of rain Tue and Wed at 40%.

The new Royal Caribbean terminal in Galveston will have parking at the front door but only 1800 spots for 5000 passengers. I went ahead and made parking reservations for a cruise next year. Covid rules are changing: Starting Sept. 5, for U.S. cruises that don’t visit Canada or Bermuda:
Vaccinated guests won’t have to take a pre-cruise test on cruises that are shorter than 10 nights.
Unvaccinated guests age 5 and up will need to test within 3 days before boarding, regardless of cruise length.
