There was quite a lightning storm on my way home yesterday. We ended up with 1.3” of rain

   / Good morning!!!! #152,122
78F, breezy, and sunny @ 13:00, may get to a high of 80F today. Something not often seen during summer: HI 77F ... (y)

AC off, house opened up.

The storms developed south of here, so we didn't end up getting any rain. With the heat and lack of rain over the last few days grass has slowed way down, starting to see some brown areas.

Managed to get hopper feeder filled yesterday but found it hard to get motivated. Dunno if it was heat/humidity, the second BLT, the Mike's Hard Lemonade, or a combination of all three.

Once the front started coming through and there was a breeze and the humidity started to drop I did manage to get out there and get a few things accomplished even though it was still around 90F.

Moved the 20 Yellow Crookneck squash around back to that area along the south side of the frog pond where they'll get planted. That left 1 remaining up front. Also measured the area - it's 40' long ... which works out for a 2' spacing.

Also watered the garden plants, squash and tomatoes got good drinks but the rhubarb and new blueberry bushes really made out and got 2 gallons each. Ground drank it in almost as fast as I could pour it.

Also did a little weeding/cultivating and spread another 4 bags of mulch. Woman returned while I was doing that and put down around 4 -6 gallons of water on the largest (old) blueberry bush.

She's been out weeding this morning on the flower bed, looks to have about reached the south end. Is now asking for the fence to be taken down so we get in there to mulch it.

Also gave the squash/pumpkin plants in the wading pools a drink of a couple of gallons per pool although they didn't really look like they needed it.

Not sure what we'll get into the rest of the day, but getting those Yellow Crookneck planted is a good possibility. Several of them have started to fruit.

Maybe move more squash and pumpkins around back into the 3rd wading pool.

Hope toppop is ok and we hear from him soon. Also the others.

Have a good Thursday afternoon ... (y)

you folks will be pleased to know I got the right galvanized steel one inch nipples from the plumbing supply store for a buck a piece.
I won't tell you what I paid for that prior tiny piece of copper, embarrassing.
And lock washers. If rain stops will put it on this afternoon. Drove in two hours of rain to and from other side of Harleysville. Waved at Popgadget going by.
Nice lunch at Souderton restaurant, place was spotless and bright, the whole area is mostly Mennonite and the care they take of their property just makes you smile.

Rip, if I saw clouds like that I'd want to run and hide.

Doctor's appointment went good...no stress test. Basically a review of all my records and prescriptions and a lecture to quit smoking.
Looks like a great day to mow...but, working until 1630 so I reckon that ain't gonna happen...

Riptide, my brother who is happily at lake in Michigan right now reported from Markham, South of you:

We have been on generator 24 hours. Towns of Warrenton, Markham, Marshall and MIddleburg
still without power. Trees down all over. Worst just east of us.

Stringline strung in the Yellow Crookneck patch, and 5 stakes put in on 2’ centers.

Filled up the WB.

YC plants were drooping so She watered those (plus the rest of the ones out front that I hadn’t gotten)

At that point I decided I’d had enough of the sun so I headed up to mulch around that big maple behind the shop.

She kept weeding out back (in the sun … )

Got the perimeter of that about 1/2 done, 9 bags placed.

Came down for a little snack and a Mike’s.

Should have shade now to start digging the holes for the Yellow Crooknecks so will head back there for that.

Alien, looked like it came from far away
but then I'm not a bug expert
Almost wood like grain on exterior

Google suggests it may be a spotted grapevine beetle.
well that sure makes sense
my next door neighbor has 30 linear feet of grapevines
one of his bugs came over to visit?

finished endless personnel zoom meeting, brain is fried
my last official bit of business except I have to write up detailed notes, but that's next week.

starting to make a big list of stuff to do tomorrow, get ready for little trip. Have 7 one pound strip steaks to pick up at local market, and three pounds of
freshly steamed shrimp for appetizers. And a big bottle of Kelchners cocktail sauce. Originally was going to take one pound of raw shrimp but was immediately told
absolutely not, smell of shrimp shells brings the bears in and then the porch gets torn up. That happened once while I was inside 30 years ago, literally looked out the window and bear was three feet away.
I slowly shut the curtain...and hunted for my camera.

Now that I have finally fixed the trailer so I'm not a menace on the highways, I should have a nice four hour max drive up there. 65 and cruise in right lane.
same route as always, all my life. 202 to 287 North through NJ, up Thruway 87 in NY until Kingston, head West.
Going to nephew's home in West Kill and then friend's cabin in Arkville. These are my foodie friends and for 50 years our motto has been No One Goes Home Hungry. And we sure don't.
No electricity, that gets a bit much at night. Propane lamps are very harsh on the eyes.
Very happy I'm staying in nephew's brand new home 45 minutes away. with a new queen bed and hvac. First world. I'll go play in the second.
Nephew thinks no phone service. Hmmm. My laptop better work or I'll be MIA until Tuesday night.

Or perhaps I'll get eaten by Bob the Bear. Not quite as friendly as Thomas's bears.

Toppop, hope you are doing ok.

The county I live in (Tuscarawas) has been declared a disaster area from last weeks storms. The township I live in is identified as one of four with significant damage. I know my property has been surveyed twice by the county EMA people and once by the NWS.

They have identified 3 separate Derecho events hit the county early last Tuesday with winds at 100+ MPH.

This is a pic from the next township S.E. of me in an area called Schupp’s Hill. The damage there is stunning.

Some friends live on that hill. They suffered no property damage to their farm, but that damage is about 200 yards from their house.

Whatever happened at our place passed within 45’ of the house. That is where we lost some trim on the house.

that looks like a tornado went through there Rich.
Always good to be in lee of trees, something to block the wind
until the tree uproots...

all that wood breaking must have been quite a sound
glad it was only trim for you

   / Good morning!!!! #152,139
There are some trees in my woods that look more like a tornado Drew. They are physically twisted. But the NWS is adamant there was no tornado.

High today went a little bit higher than forecasted, hit 84°. Only big puffy clouds, not even a hint of a storm. That's OK, more on the way over the weekend.

Took the new shrubs I picked up yesterday and Wifey found new homes for them. Then, of course, I dug the holes. Had to do them by hand, wasn't going to spend the time to put the PHD back on the tractor. Wasn't bad, the soil was soft and moist at least a foot down.

Only a few really wet spots to avoid, where the rain had left some bigger puddles. Of course, they were the first spots Max ran into....

I was having a bad day.... just no energy, feeling blah... Took many breaks, drank plenty of fluid. I didn't sleep well last night, so probably the root cause. The drip still needs to be hooked up, but that will happen tomorrow.

Also need to swap out about six drippers on the fence line planters. most of them overflow after about a half hour. The drippers will get a size down.....
2 gal/hr will change to 1 gal/hr. , 4's down to 2's. Not hard, just couldn't do it today.

Hopefully, I'll have more energy tomorrow. We want to start marking out the walkway in the courtyard. At least a rough idea.
