Morning all!
Yesterday was a gorgeous day to celebrate my 64th trip around the sun. Can't ask for better than 55 degrees with full sun and no wind! I had a great day!
Today will be rainy and in the high 40's.
I ordered a simple steel brace to help with cleaning my pellet stove in October. Still waiting for it to come in. The last call to the store resulted in them guessing it would show up in April!!
We really have a lot of damage in the yard this year. Snow has all melted showing erosion cutting thru the grass deep into the soil! Never had that before in this area. Don't know what has changed? Will need to get a truck load of loam to fill the hole and figure a way to divert the water. To muddy and soft for that now. Think I will just go out and pick up fallen branches today. We should still have a few storms to go before spring comes.
Oh well! Hope everyone enjoys St. Patricks day!

Still too soft to take my tractor down the bush. I tried today but it was sinking too much so I'm gonna have to leave it for another couple of weeks. Got some jobs to do down there but they will just have to go on the back burner. Still can't tow away the fallen trees either. Guess it's all going to happen at once. Story of my life.

It sure would be interesting to hear your reason for expecting this from Cali.
Good morning all.
actually I was being partially facetious. I remember as a kid my Father referring to California
as the land of fruits and nuts, and I don't think he was referring to the agriculture.
My sister loves San Francisco, I've been in California one day in my life, flew in to San Diego for a business meeting.
What is sad is the middle class flight out of California.

Kyle, bet those cabinets look really nice now.
46F in rain showers continuing all morning, will make for a wet drive to DE.

going to leave around 9am, head out Turnpike, down Blue Route to 95 South to route 1 South in DE. An ugly drive frankly. Just under 3 hours, in time for lunch.
One of my oldest friends, and while we email almost every day, seeing each other in person is so much better.

Happy Birthday Phil!

annoying and disappointing email from Amtrak. They cancelled my train(again!) to Charleston in May, and have nothing to offer me, no trains with a private room of any kind. I'm not sitting in a coach seat for 12 hours so guess I'm driving now. Too bad Amtrak is so screwed up

That's to bad,the train would likely have been more relaxing but at least you have your new wheels to take the trip with.

52 and rain showers, going to 62.

Happy St Patrick's Day! My wife loves to decorate for each season and holiday, so this is no exception...and I'll be wearing the green today.

Happy Birthday, mpham! Sounds like a nice one.

Happy Birthday to Kyle son. Nice day planned.

Don, looks like a nice park work day. Congrats on living healthy since your heart attack.

Met the first Thru-hiker of the year on the Appalachian Trail yesterday...actually met him in the parking area as I returned to my truck, where the A/T crosses over the road...his dad and friend had parked their RV and were re-supplying him...and his dad was gonna hike the next 6 miles with his son, while the friend drove ahead to meet up, and then switch with the dad to take a turn hiking. Guys were from Michigan and Chicago...so we talked White Sox a bit. The hiker had left Georgia on January 18...I told him it seemed early to see a Thru-hiker this early in Virginia, but he said there were a couple ahead of him.

There was still a few snow patches on the trail, and I didn't see any other hikers...very quiet all day.

Good morning, low temperature is 40 and going to a high of 55.°F. Wind SSW 9 mph. 40% chance of showers.

I have a fellow that has a maple bush, he and his son do the sap and they have an exclusive bunch of older folks that insist on dark maple syrup. I managed to get into this group. 1 gallon/year is what I get. Now being up here in Kanuckistan and being arbitrarily put on the metric system where 4.54 Litres equal an Imperial gallon, which neither he nor his son agree with, he sells 5 Litres for the gallon price AND delivers it. Perfect. He fills his jugs right up to the safety seal, rather than up to the shoulder of the jug which is 1 Litre. The darker the syrup, the stronger the taste.

A town run is in the cards for today, after that I don't know what I will get into.

Tomorrow will be interesting, it is cat castration day. The last time I tried to catch them for the rabies shots I could only catch the one and that one isn't the cat that wants to go outside.

Happy Birthday Phil!

daugen, it sucks that you can't take the train.

Back in the early 1970s I heard about a fellow that took a locomotive from the yard in Winnipeg, Manitoba for a joy ride to Calgary, Alberta. The railroad had him arrested and charged with theft. He pleaded 'not guilty' and the judge tossed the charges out because the locomotive never left railroad property.
This was before the days of computerized train tracking.

Have a safe day all

RNG: anytime I see votes "strictly on party lines" I know our current system is doomed.
We need folks who think independently. Regardless of their position. I figured California would be leading the pack in enlightened thinking.
At the risk of stepping over the line into politics, after an election, the needs of the country should be the priority, not partisan politics. It's been that way in California before, but those days are long gone.

Morning all, 47 going to 57 and rain.
The igniter did not fix the heater. One last pressure switch to test and then I am baffled.
Leaner is not down, did not get to finish since spent more time on heater.

Son came in and wanted to go to see somone at open mike night at local bar/restaurant. So instead of dropping him off, I just stayed in the back for a beer. Some good talent at temperance bar Newtown PA.
Bar is decent, nothing outrageous. Like most bars there, in a very old tavern, that dates back to the late 1700's

Happy birthday to your son Kyle!
Happy birthday Phil and many more!

Stay safe and be well,

Cleaning up the area from all the other trees I fell. Leaner is to the right.

Come on out, Billy. The oaks and manzanita almost specialize in growing out of the rocks around here. Makes stump removal a real treat!

Good Morning!!!! 54F @ 5:15AM. Cloudy skies early, then partly cloudy this afternoon. High near 70F. Winds SSE at 5 to 10 mph.
Beautiful day yesterday with puffy white clouds floating in the sky and a high of 70F. Less sun today, but same temps, perfect working weather.

That's gonna clean up real nice, Ken.

From the text messages I got yesterday, it sounds like the dozer is showing up today. I'll have the gate open for him, and wonder if the brakes on his truck are good enough to slow his descent down the steep driveway. Gonna keep the phone handy and shoot a video just in case...

I got the spraying done, but not the way I thought. Kubota side-by-side kept overheating, to the point where steam was coming out the shaft seal of the waterpump. I have a new one on order at Kubota, but they have no idea when it'll be in. Until then I'll be filling the radiator daily and keeping an eye on the temperature gauge.

It was too nice to work inside yesterday afternoon, so I went after more dead wood up by the big rocks I've been clearing. Built another burn pile, this time over some stumps I took out a month or so ago, then just started poking around the property for more dead trees. In just a couple hours I ended up with another huge pile. So I'll be burning again this morning, staying well clear of the smoke. And you can bet the tractor's gonna get a nice hot and soapy bath after wrangling all that poison oak, too.

Hang in there, gang, Friday's comin'!

50°F and partly cloudy this morning with a little spotty fog, going up to 78° today. Rain moving in overnight and into tomorrow. We could use some, if for nothing else than to wash all the salt off the roads.

My youngest stepson turns 23 today. He's getting the usual corned beef and cabbage for dinner, and his Mother is making a cake (lemon yellow, not green).

Sounds like this is the point where they start beating you down on the initial price offered, Don.

Happy (belated) Birthday, Phil.

Happy Birthday to your son, Kyle.
