Good morning, low temp is -18°F and the high is going to -4. Wind NW 5 mph. Mainly sunny.

I have a town run to do later today, then conserve energy.

Back in the '50s, Dad had an all lines family pass through CPR (Canadian Pacific Railroad), we took the train to Miami a few times for Christmas to see my grandparents (his Mom & Dad). The first trip was right from Toronto via TH&B (Toronto Hamilton & Buffalo RR) to New York Central to PRR (Pennsylvania Railroad), we changed trains at Baltimore and I've forgotten what we took from there to Miami. In those days I really loved train travel. The food was good, and the porters friendly. What more could you ask for?
My Grandparents would drive back to Toronto with us in their Packard. Up US1, no interstate highways then, or if there were my G-parents didn't take them. I have 8 mm film my grandmother (she was a photographer) took of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

I need a new fuel sending unit and heater blower fan in the Kioti. Priced them out yesterday; fan $624.oo + tax, sending unit $80.oo + tax and shipping. It is on the way. The fan only runs on low speed, I will take the roof off in spring and check it out for myself, might only be the switch. That will be a good opportunity for me to install the radio I have had for 5 years.

You guys/gals with the crappy weather stay safe

41 dropping all day to 16. 2 to 3 inches snow forecast by local TV weather guru. None forecast Saturday. What a change from a couple of days ago.

Eric, I split most stuff over 4 inches, leave a few to serve as long burners...sometimes depends how knotty, or whether I think I'll find a hollow inside to look at.

Ron, glad your wellness check up went well...I'm past due.

Moved my firewood pallets and brought enough in to refill the porch, all by 7:30am yesterday, so had time for a long hike and a little target practice and gun cleaning. I did let darkness sneak up on me before I got to re-tarping some pallets of firewood to beat this morning's rain then snow, but looks like I'll have some daylight today before it gets here.

Need to do a thorough cleaning of my roaster today, and hike in the snow.

I suggest going to your friendly local BMW motorcycle boutique, er, dealer. They'll sell you some high tech wonder glove that won't even come close to meeting all the selling points, then insult the heck of your wallet when you go to pay for it. Then you can insult the dealer when you go back and complain, and get insulted back by BMW North America after the dealer tells you to go pound sand.

DAMHIKT...
For some reason, I get the impression that you are NOT a BMW fan. :ROFLMAO: In 1987, I made the mistake of selling my Honda Goldwing, but then decided I did still want a motorcycle, so I bought a BMW R80RT. There came a day when my wife had to work, but I had vacation time accumulated that I had to either take it or lose it, so I rode that BMW from Dallas to Colorado Springs, CO. one day and spent a couple of nights with our former next door neighbors, whose job had transferred them to Colorado. When I started back home, I decided to take a little side trip up Pikes Peak; stopped halfway up to put on a jacket and my gloves. I got to the parking lot at the top just as a young couple was getting off their motorcycle, so we walked in together, had a cup of coffee, then went our separate ways, sight seeing. I got back to the parking lot and was putting on my gloves when that young couple came back out. She said, "I'll bet you'd want $50 for those gloves." I said, "At least." She didn't have any gloves, said they thought they could buy some in the gift shop up there, but they didn't have any.

Incidentally, I rode all the way back to Dallas that day, most of it in a pouring down rain. Got home a little after midnight. Miserable trip home. And the gloves did not come from BMW; I had them long before I got that bike.

I always wore gloves when riding a motorcycle ('76 Kawasaki 900, in my case).
Wasn't just for the weather...ever got hit on the knuckle by a June bug when doing 70 MPH?
Also, wore gloves just in case the 'cycle went down. Leather gloves abrade, like human skin...gives one a chance to minimize damage to one's hands

30 stops on this train, wish I hadn't looked. No wonder it takes almost five hours longer than their other train.
Everything is packed, hope they have a porter to help me with bags getting on and off train. Larger suitcase is pretty heavy with two bottles of wine
and other stuff in it. Still raining but turning over to snow.

will go to bed in NC tonight and wake up in Georgia.
I have no idea if Verizon mifi will work on train but will try.
unplugged a few small appliances out of habit and will turn heat down
of course after I unplugged the microwave I realized I needed to heat up my coffee...

packed my noise cancelling headphones and a back pillow.
and lots of masks and a test kit. sign of the times

Poured first cup of coffee. 15° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 20° with some sun. Annual Wellness check up went well. Should be good for another year. After yesterday high of 41° weather guessers are forecasting no days above freezing for next 14 days. Maybe a slight chance of snow next week. Going to be a good time to work on scanning photos.

Drew, hope your drip goes well.

Everyone stay well and safe.

Good Morning All.

I had my annual last week, they give the three words to remember and recall later. When the nurse ask me what they were I told her green, tree and Chevrolet, same as last year. She chuckled and said, I’d better get some new words.

Good morning! Warm days are gone. 32˚F, strong North wind, only warming to 34˚F wind chill 27˚F.

My only job this month is knee recovery and yesterday was a good day. Egore did not have to "help" me reach my most flexion ever - 128˚ this is the goal the Dr. set for me but I'm about a month early. No cheering, graduation, champagne or vegan cake from Egore he just said "130˚ Friday". After Physical Therapy I biked 5 miles and hiked two miles. I'll try to hike/bike the same distances today inside the gym and with Whipper's walk, brrr.

Drew, a cruise is a lot better value but you are on an adventure and someone else is doing the driving to a destination where there is more to do than beach volleyball and margaritas. The last train ride we went on was from Cedar Park TX to Burnet TX looking at the rates they are still $20 to $60. Locomotives - Austin Steam Train Association

Temps falling through the 30s today with rain to snow around noon. We might get a dusting and another Friday night, big snow is now south of us.

Not doing much today, ear is still bleeding and shin is very sore, so I’m on cruise control.

Morning all, heavy rain for dog walk and 37, going to get colder and some snow later.
They were going to do virtual for sons classes today, but with only rain they are open for business.

Drew - safe travels.

Meet my new boss today,

Stay safe and be well,

Longest train ride for me was the blue train from Pretoria to Cape town. Luxury train. First ran in 1923 and all the cars/train restored, like being in a movie.

I think that was a good idea, but in the usual Texas heat, even that helmet was a considerable discomfort. I still occasionally see someone on a motorcycle wearing shorts. At least I never did that.

Good Morning. It’s 35 outside, and raining. It was 37 an hour ago. It’s supposed to continue to drop and change to snow, ending up in the low teens by tomorrow morning. Actually it’s snowing now.

Yesterday got all the air plumbing done, PEX-A with expanded connections rather than crimp rings worked great, no leaks (in the PEX). Had a couple of threaded joints slowly blowing bubbles including some on the new compressor. I left it all pressurized with the compressor off, it will be interesting to see what the pressure drop overnight is.

The brass fittings for a shower arm work great for air outlets.

Made it down to friends shop to take care of welding repair to his beam, and had lunch with him and his employees. Got back in time to make all the fixes from the latest round of “findings”. I’m hopeful that this will be the last round (for these documents). Spent some time cleaning up and putting tools away, but still looking for where I put the SnapOn 9/16 combination wrench. Even looked in the trash cans, but so far it’s still MIA.
Moved bags of grain into the barn and filled bins before dinner.

Today will likely start off with my postponed breakfast date, then back to the shop. No real plans or scheduled chores, but I’m sure that the day will fill up.

Train Rides and Cruises have always intrigued me, but I don’t think that I could I could just sit and watch the world go by. Perhaps an engine room tour of the ship could do it for a little while. It’s funny that I have spent my life facilitating other peoples travel, but have no desire of my own to go anywhere, but next door to my shop.
I have done a lot of travel, but only as an accidental tourist. I wonder if I would feel different if I had been in a stationary career.

Good morning! 21° now. Likely the high for the day. Tomorrow is gonna be a bit frosty, figures, burning a vacation day.....

Most of my train trips have been in Europe. Rode the TGV from Paris - Nantes several times, the high speed German train from Hamburg to Frankfurt, Birmingham to Shrewsbury - multiple times, Manchester to Shrewsbury, Birmingham to London, Hyvinkaa Finland to St. Petersburg Russia were the major ones. Took the train from Athens airport to downtown Athens a few times too.

Guess I need to rebuild the drive on my 18 year old snow blower. Broke another axle bolt the other night. My fault, broke it several years ago, the original was a Gr. 8, only had a Gr. 5 to fit and forgot to change it to the correct bolt. Got the correct bolt now. I left the belly pan off to make it easier to change. But the friction disc looks pretty tired. Need to remove the nozzle tube from the carb and give to a good cleaning.

Having a cab on the snow blower was awesome the other morning. The wind was pretty strong Monday morning, the cab kept the wind and snow off of me.

I really need to get new front tires for the New Holland. I said that last year and never did. Need to make that a priority this year.

Everyone stay safe out there!

Good Morning!!!! 50 @ 6:30AM. Abundant sunshine. High 63F. Winds light and variable.
Another copycat day.

Sounds like the PEX install went smoothly, Paul. Did you need a special crimp tool?

Never been on an overnight train trip, just the short tourist steam trains. That was fun, and with the right companion, a longer run might be, too.

Headed south on a big brother version of Bird's BMW RT, a few more cc's and horses, bigger bags, but same basic bike. About 450 miles of riding, half of it slab, the rest on the coast road. No sign of fog on the valley traffic cams, just hope it stays that way.

Still gotta fill the hummer feeders; I'll put out all eight, and I bet they'll all be empty when I get back.
