Couple years ago new neighbors had BIG flock free ranging chickens,between foxes hawks owls the flock was thin down with months,now they have few chickens and fancy house for them.

Thomas there are some mighty fancy chicken houses out on the market and all kinds of kits how to build your own super custom chicken digs.
My sister loved her chickens, but I've never tried it. The eggs simply had more flavor.
She was feeding them well, from some pet place in downtown Princeton NJ. You can just imagine what that cost...
I'm sure it was the pet version of Whole Foods. Chicken pellets with special free range flavors...

Today is 34 going up to 61-seems spring is here, wish I could enjoy it.

Foxes around here keep mice and other small critter population down, the noise they make is really awful at 5am !

42°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 72° today. Looks like we have some rain and storms moving in tomorrow evening.

The boy was there when I got home from work yesterday. He likes to talk ... a lot. I ended up getting a whole lot of nothing done last night.

We have a couple of those hockey puck looking charging pads for our iPhone11s. Mine works great with my Tech21 cover. My Wife's, however, only works if it is lined up perfectly centered on the charger. Same phones, same cases. It's the same when she puts it on my charger. Something about her phone just doesn't like those things.

My Wife's cousin lives next to us to the north, across the pond. They got some chickens a few years ago, and had them for about two months before accidentally locking a fox in the henhouse one night. That was the end of their chicken experiment. I've had a game camera by our coop for years, and I've only ever seen a fox sniffing around it twice.

Good morning! 58˚F heading to the mid 70's. I bought some lawn fertilizer before the big freeze, today is a good day to spread it. It looks like I have lost about 10 hedges to the freeze. I may just cut them low and see if they green up before I pull them up by the roots. there are a lot of dead palm trees in the neighborhood. It was too cold for too long.

+1 on Anker. Been using their USB chargers, and also a USB 3.0 to video converter for the new BenQ monitor.

Rewired the photo eyes on the gate to run off the 12VDC from the solar panel, then used electrical tape to fix them pointed at each other. It works, but I'll keep poking away at getting rid of them altogether; two less points of failure if I'm successful. I also got the wireless keypad to work by putting in a lithium battery. It came with one, but I assumed it was a junker no-name and substituted a Duracel alkaline. Then read in the instructions that it needed a lithium. The controller still fails to unlock about one time out of three, so I'll call the factory today to ask for help. The thing's got a million tiny dip switches on it, and it's a very good chance one or more are not set correctly. Connected up the old exit loop sensor, but couldn't get it to work, either. I have a new one I'll try once it dries out a bit up there later in the week.

Yes it would be a long trip on snow tires. So I'll swap them off and save them for the next couple of years.
I detest driving on I95 from well before DC and well after it.
Therefore I add a couple of extra hours to my drive with a lot less aggravation,
NY I88 to I81 follow 81 down into Virginia then I64 back across.
Lets me avoid NYC, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC, I do have a bit of traffic around Richmond but not bad.
More nice scenery and usually less traffic and aggravation, then I stop for the night in Harrisonburg or Staunton
unless I feel like pushing a few more hours. One time just for the heck of it I did the trip without using hardly any interstate
highways took me a bit over three days but was a nice trip.

I have not bought fertilizer yet; might do that today. But it's sure too windy here to spread it today. 56 degrees this morning, going for a high of 73 and a strong southerly breeze; currently 21 mph. I just finished (hopefully for the last time for this season) using the grass catcher on the lawnmower to pick up those blasted Live Oak acorns and leaves in my front yard. I use the big contractor bags from Home Depot and I moved the whole yard on 3/2/2021; filled two bags. Then I went over the front yard, under that live oak on 3/4/2021 and filled one bag, did that again on 3/5/2021 and filled 2 bags, again on 3/6/2021 and filled 1 bag, and once again this morning and filled 2 more bags.

Did I tell you that I hate Live Oak trees within a hundred yards of the house?

Good afternoon, we seem to have lambs everywhere, another trailer load were in a rush to be born before the gales arrive tomorrow.

Drew, that's quite a spec for a PC. Are you planning on getting into the bit-coin "mining" business ?

Put a pair of new blades on the Grillo mower yesterday. While tightening the second blade, I stupidly turned the mounting bar half a revolution in the opposite direction to normal cutting. The drive belt took this as an opportunity to climb up the tensioning pulley that is hidden in a tight space beneath the engine, then escape through an impossibly narrow gap and jamb up on the far side. At this point the exhaust thought it would join in the fun, branding me across my wrist as I tried in vain to see if I could access the pulley from the rear. Half an hour of finger numbing pulling, pushing and tugging got me nowhere, I had to walk away before my frustration had me doing something stupid I would later regret (mowercide ? ).

After a good nights sleep the belt was feeling far more compliant, it let me twist and tease it out of the confined space in less than 10 minutes and now the Grillo is cutting as good as new. It has got me thinking though, we no longer need a machine that can traverse slopes, next year I will be planting trees in the steep places and the sheep can keep it tidy enough over this summer. For some time my wife has been saying we should trade in the Grillo and get something with less aggressive tires for her lawn - any recommendations for a small tractor style mower that will mulch cut in the range 1"-4" ?

Now that I'm in town The price of gas does not affect the monthly expenses that much.

Once the price reaches $4 a gallon is when people start weighing in the advantages of a hybrid. I know the Tesla factory is right down the road and they cheer every time the gas goes up another quarter. It still seems too early to consider a vehicle that is completely dependent on batteries, just not enough charging stations around for a road trip. In fact there is only 1 charging station in town and it's at an apartment complex. That sounds fun sitting around an apartment complex for 30-45 minutes waiting for you car to fill-up just so you can go another ? miles.

In the works are batteries that last one million miles and go 400 miles on a charge. Get the price down to $40K and I'll reconsider.
