Good morning, 25°

Not much else to report...

   / Good morning!!!! #125,144
Good morning. Sloppy wet snow flakes falling onto ice. Once I have moved the sheep over I will be happy to stay inside for the rest of the day.

Yesterday was better outside, so cold I was able to use the old Subaru to carry tools over the fields. A hedge I laid a couple of years ago needed a light trim and for a bit of exercise I decided to do it by hand instead of asking a friend with a tractor mounted flail. Only problem was my Ego hedge cutter didn't want to cut, it would only run for a couple of seconds then stop. I swapped batteries but no change, both batteries worked fine in chainsaw for the next hour. Brought hedge cutter back to heated workshop, then when I tried it a few hours later it was fine, all I can think is that there was some low temperature sensor coming into play :confused3:

Thanks for all the thoughts on post caps.

Mostly, if you have to endure sleep depravation, missing a nap for meatballs must be one of the least traumatic :)

26-44 today with bright sunshine, looks like a near repeat for the next two weeks

same here Toppop, not a lot of rain in forecast. Or snow...

baking blueberry muffins this morning, then going out at lunch to have a pizza with a friend sitting outside around her fire pit.
Think I'm going to freeze my butt off.
Worse is she has a nice fireplace to sit by but until we get vaccinated, we both agree no indoor socializing.

thought of another thing the salesman should have sold me, spare shear pins for snowblower. Will order them online instead.
World's most expensive defective bolts...;)

very sad that one of security force at White House died last night. Were all these folks having heart attacks? Will be interesting to follow story
of lady who was shot in chest and killed when she tried to force herself into a protected area. Pure Darwinism.

working my way through new Meacham book on John Lewis that I got for Christmas. The focus on non-violence is fascinating, Lewis being the protege of
Martin Luther King. The courage of those folks to stand up to all the hate and rejection was remarkable. There really is an alternative to violence and destruction.
I was one of the first white boys who minored in black studies in college. My other minor was psychology, the two complimenting each other.
We sure have a ways to go to learn how to get along don't we.

This time last year I was growing wildflowers like mad in the greenhouse. I miss that, hope I can do it again in coming years.

Eric, maybe your hedge trimmer needs lube. I coat mine with oil after every use. Likes to rust between blades if I do not.

RNG, went into shop yesterday looking for a drill bit. Tripped on a piece of steel. Not only are my benches getting cluttered. Floor is also. I did put piece of metal on rack where it belongs.

Congrats Dftodd !!! :cloud9:

Drew, still way early in PA for a greenhouse.

Everyone stay safe and healthy.

Good Morning All.

30 outside this AM. Heading to upper 30's today.

I am itching to paint the beams on the porch, but it is too cold. SO I broke the sander out again and went at it. Found two nails and that was it for the day. LOL.
Looking long term, I might be able to get another coat of primer on next week. Looks like it may be in the 50's.

No coyotes last night, the sounds of silence for a change.

Nothing else going on, may take a long walk today and scope out next years fire wood. I still have over 200 pieces of maple to split...but that's hard work. LOL.

Hope all have a great day. Be safe and stay healthy my friends.

Ron, glad your back is better. Everything growing here is a month later than NC.
Dftodd, great picture and congrats!

32 going to 39. Maybe a few snowflakes.

Thanks for the well wishes for my back problem. Hope it is not "catching" to others, since several of us suffer from it. I found what works best for me is floor stretching and strengthening exercises, ibuprofen, Salonpas pad, and a hike...something about pumping up blood circulation seems to make the whole body feel better. So, I took a 5 mile hike at the nearby forest park to the river.

dftodd, great news the baby has come home.

Feeling sorta philosophical this morning...blending Ethiopian and Costa Rican coffees will do that. :) ...I'm pretty sure none of us like to see violence in our streets and citizens hurt or killed. It seems how we view events is really a function of the sources of media we read and watch, as well as what we choose to believe. This becomes our own reality, but isn't everyone's. Just reading some of the comments here so far, there are very different perspectives on Wednesday's events, as well as the summer I saw and read about...summer of riots, looting, public property destroyed, city blocks burning or seized, police shot and killed, and businesses burned and looted while small business owners were already struggling from pandemic lockdowns...my perspective on these cannot be changed and I doubt yours either. I think of all the time people spent on the Friendly Politics forum was maybe a good outlet, but I'd wager never swayed a single person's opinion. Tiptoeing into politics on other threads won't either. I read about all of the productive things you folks do, and see the kind hearts all of you seem to have, and know we could be good neighbors.

Good Morning!!!! 47F @ 4:00AM. Showers early, then partly cloudy for the afternoon. High around 55F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 50%.
It's drizzling now, but barely measurable precipitation has accumulated. There's no more rain in the 10-day. I suppose that's good from a fuels standpoint, in that without water, the weeds and brush may not grow as much, so there's less fuel for wildfires this year. Somehow I feel that's grasping at straws, though, as we're still very early in the rain season. These days, though, I'll take any silver lining I can find.

People don't like change, and we don't like uncertainty. When so much of what we're told by the media turns out to be false, it breeds more uncertainty. And when instant fixes aren't available for our problems, and the CoVid-19 vaccine distribution in this country is an example of that, people get upset as well. So I get why there is so much public protest. Fortunately, the vast majority of it is peaceful, but that isn't what we're shown in the news. "If it bleeds, it leads" governs what we see instead; uncertainty increases. It's very difficult to keep things in perspective in such an environment, but I fail to see there's even one iota of justification that violence can be a part of the solution. Unfortunately, a significant number of folks don't see it that way, and our legal and correctional systems are already packed to the gills. We sure don't need the media publicizing and even glorifying the violence, though. You make a good point, Bill, the GM thread is a welcome bit of calm and goodness in a very troubled world, and I'm grateful.

I miss seeing the results of your green thumb, too, Drew!

Day before yesterday, Ron, a tufted titmouse flew into the garage and wouldn't leave. It was late in the day and I was tired and hungry, so I shut the garage and went inside for the evening. Yesterday morning when I came back out, that bird was circling around, trying to go through the rear glass slider, chirping and squeaking it's displeasure all the while. I got the door open then moved to the other side of the garage which served to finally get it to go out the door. I'm hoping it won't come back with friends. Hope you found your drill bit! And hopefully your garage never gets as congested as the one here. Sometimes I have to go outside just to change my mind!:confused2:

Broke down and finally ordered a new phone yesterday. Tried shopping for a deal, but Apple and the cellular companies have conspired very well to ensure that only those willing to pay full retail will get one. What with the good stock market performance last year, I needed to re-balance the portfolio, so fittingly sold some Apple and Verizon stock, letting the two companies finance the purchase took some of the sting out. Verizon's web site didn't, though. It kept freezing, then locked me out when I tried to update a weak password. New phone should be here Monday.

Finished two more pallets yesterday; at a count of eight, I'm half way through the build. McMaster-Carr turned out to have not only better prices on bolts than Amazon, but faster delivery as well. And it was much easier to find the correct grade and size, too.

Need to do some surface mining for space out in the garage in preparation for getting that transmission back together tomorrow. But while the day warms up a bit, I'm gonna take another swing at the PG&E claim and see if I can get another section of it completed.

TGIF gang!:drink:

Good Morning
It’s 26 here headed to the upper 30’s with some high clouds and no precipitation.

Yesterday went almost according to plan. Work at the airport went well, gunsmithing was going great until my son broke a drill bit in a blind hole. Fortunately after some fixture and tooling work, we were able to get the remnants of the bit out with no collateral damage. Hopefully today will go a little smoother in that department.

No mining yesterday.

One of the things that I like about GM is that it’s participants are of such varied backgrounds and experiences, and I’m sure, political and social proclivities as well. With this in mind, there is an unspoken mutual respect that keeps the conversation focused on what is in common rather than about the differences. As a newcomer, I immediately felt comfortable and welcome, and I thank everyone for that. There is a place for political discourse and places where it is better left alone.

Years ago I asked my Congressman, who was a friend, why the members of Congress treated each other the way that they often did. He told me to go to the local watering hole and start a political discussion and see how long it stays civil. His point was that we really are represented by our peers.

Good morning, the temperature is 5°F and going up to 19. Wind NE 3 mph. Sunny!

Junior wanted to catch two sales at the grocery store yesterday, so we went first thing (for him) 9 A.M. and fueled the Dodge on the way home. Then went to the dump later with the Jeep and filled it up, too. I never let my fuel tanks get below half, unless I am actually going somewhere then I will run them down to 1/4. Doing things this way I have never had a problem with condensation in my fuel. The same goes with the furnace oil tank.

I am not doing anything outside today. An energy conservation day.

I do NOT agree with demonstrations, peaceful or otherwise. Never have, never will.

Stay safe you guys

whole house smells like warm blueberries.

owl house waiting for specs on entrance hole, then it's ready to go. Correction: have final sanding to do.

we are going through some pretty amazing times. Hard not to seek or appreciate advice from friends whose opinions you respect.
The problem with discussing politics is it's like handling nitroglycerine. It can go off if you aren't really careful.
We are the school zone and we don't want any explosives in it...
If you think you are going to upset someone by what you have to say, might reconsider whether this is the appropriate place to vent
one's feelings. Myself included...
Overall I think we've done quite well at self policing since we have a common goal of pleasantry here.

Irv, wherever you are, thank you again.

I had Andy Harris tell me about the same thing two years ago in a Skype meeting of local business/government agencies. Although at that time he said they were mostly friendly out of chambers. That doesn’t seem the case anymore.

32°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 37° today. That looks to be a standard forecast for our weather for the next week or so.

I don't have a problem with protests and demonstrations. We certainly have that right here in the US. I do, however, see them as largely a waste of time, time which could be better spent actually doing things that change a bad situation. Once they turn violent, though, well ... that's called a riot, and should be dealt with accordingly. Politics does have a tendency to stir up harsh feelings, just one of many reasons I can't stand it.

Congrats, grandpa!

Those muffins look delicious, Drew.
