good evening well I got soaked this evening trying to get the grass mowed, I did get done but had to take 2 breaks cause of rain. saterday is the wife's birthday time for another happy meal but I think I have cut my expence for this occasion. I was helping a friend in town and stop by micky d's and get me a coffee so they know me now well enough I think I can just ask them if they will give me a toy that goes in the happy meal and that will save me some cash. after all she's only concerned about the toy. hope this work's if not my wallet and my stomach will suffer:cool2:

Birds are really something.

We almost always feed our dogs outside in the morning. Back when we had 5/6, the older 4 out back, the younger 2 out front. Being as spoiled as they are, they usually manage to knock some out of their bowls or plates and rarely clean it all up. The birds, mynas and doves mostly, would clean up. After rehoming the young ones in May, we continued feeding the older ones out back. We soon noticed that the birds out front were upset. The mynas soon discovered the bowl of dry dog food just inside the exercise room on the front side of the house. A couple days later, a big commotion, apparently two hungry mynas had decided to serve themselves and were flying around inside the master suite. With all the doors open, they soon escaped.

Days we have late breakfast, we notice the birds hanging around out back, sometimes very noisily awaiting their breakfast.

We got through the service this morning with only a few sprinkles. The local VFW provided the Honor Guard. The lady blowing taps on the trumpet did a really good job. That is a really sad tune. It brings back memories of all the service men you have seen laid to rest. I found out Steve was only 59, but he had been in Nam. He must have just got the tail end of it.

After all my mowing, they put Steve back in the pines. I will trim the oaks and do some bush hogging. Pretty soon I will have it looking good.

Heard it played for my dad, Christmas Eve 1964, sad indeed.
As for only being 59, I'm 60 and was there in 1971, our war ended there in 1975. I will be 61 next month. He could have been there anytime between '71-'75.

Coffee is brewing. 59° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 84° with lots of sun all day. Got all the retaining wall back filled yesterday. Need to level out before I put week barrier and mulch down. Going to work on this a little at a time each morning. Not much going to get done next few days. Got friends visiting from CO.
Larry, heartfelt condolences to Steve's family and friends.

Good Morning All.

Slept in until 0530, then I layed there like a slug trying to go back to sleep until 0600.

No idea what the weather is doing.

Have a good Saturday!

Be Well & God Bless,

Nice morning here today, surpised to see farmers in my area harvesting wheat. With all the rain we had, I thought they would not be able to get in the fields. Drainage tiles must be working good.

58 right now and a high of 82 predicted. Like yesterday, no rain and lower humidity in the forecast.

Wife is going with her sister to Warren NH. They both lived in Warren for a time and it's Warren's 250th anniversary. That means it just the dog and I home today. The lawn needs mowing, but I really hate to leave the dog inside alone.... Well, I'll figure out something.

Our home is nested between the White River and VT RT 12. The pictures below show the field we own (not all of it...some of the brush is too thick for the cutter so I haven't seen our river front yet) as well as one side and the front lawn.

There's a lot of silt on that field....washed in when Hurricane Irene hit Vermont a few years ago. It's my understanding, the field was under water. The silt is pretty rutted as a result of the water retreating after the hurricane. Good thing is, the silt is pretty easy to dig so I can fill in the ruts...or at least smooth it out a bit.
As far as clearing to the river...that will probably have to wait until later winter or early spring 2014. It's pretty thick and I don't want to go plunging in there until I know what's on the other side.

We had anywhere from 3 to 9.9" of rain in the immediate area yesterday, much flooding. Some spots have had 30" of rain since June 1, and over 45" this year. Our normal for the year is around 42". Wish I could send some to Texas and places that need it. Gotta mow the crop today, have a good one.

71 headed up to 84 today, damp, drizzly outside, rain is done, though more showers are always likely later in the day.
Roy, what a nice property, congrats. Lots of places to use your tractor!

might dig another row of potatoes today, the ground will be soft, and the plants are all fallen down and withered so I guess it's show time.
Tomatoes and cucumbers continue to come in, hope to get a bumper crop of blackberries. I am embarrassed to report that what I thought were raspberry plants turned out
to be their cousin only. I have bird netting, wonder if I should net those berries.

Also, equally embarrassing, I have no idea what pepper plants we planted. What we like are green sweet peppers, instead we got everything but... can anyone identify these hot
peppers which I think are likely to be on the mild side no matter what. Neither my wife or I can eat hot peppers any more but there sure are a lot of folk who love them.
I was all set to cut down the old lettuce when it starting flowering in the prettiest yellow. If you're looking good, you get to stay...

I had to laugh, look at the second pic from the right, with the purple colored pepper, go to the left about two inches and down, and there is one half
squished fat worm that had been munching happily in this patch. We killed eight last year ,and then no more. We're up to seven this year, so I'm still looking...

Morning from central Virginia. Still waiting to hear from JD about my 4010 hydraulic failure. Thinking it is likely the pins or attachments for the U joint between the engine and hydraulics/differential like happened on another ByNet member's 4010. I crawled under there and looked at the U joint but had forgotten about the connections on either side of it from the old forum topic. Nice and cool but continuing wet here. Stuff is growing too much. Veggies are not being stressed enough to bear good this year.

Good morning! 77˚ - 100˚ clear skies - very dry, sprinklers humming.

The blacktop road they tore up three weeks ago is now oiled so I'm staying off my circular paver drive for a while.

The county continues to clear the brush between my fence and the road, they are removing all brush and small trees and cutting the remain larger trees way back, and in the process removing my old fence which was entangled in the brush. Thats one project that I waited long enough to do that took care of itself. Of course I waited 18 years.......:D I'm going behind them and clearing out my side of the fence line, but I can soon see this project being delayed to the fall.

Roy I noticed your brush hog has no front chains. Last year one of the neighbors down the road was mowing without chains and hit a piece of wire. It struck him in the head and killed him. After that incident everyone out here was installing the protective chains.

Good point! That's a used cutter I bought about a month ago. It's been way too wet to field mow until now, so the cutter has been setting in that shed.
At one time the cutter had those hard rubber shields (same as I had on my Land Pride cutter I sold before moving to VT). I'll have to replace the rubber shields or add the chains.

Damp drizzle here in GA too, and cool. Sipping me first cup of joe now, going to see my brother in law who just had his bladder removed - bladder cancer, doc said cancer is all gone now, but the old boy said he's so weak, if he tried to snap his fingers, he'd break his arm. It's about a three hour drive from me place to his, we go through some beautiful pasture country, and a few farming areas. But in this part of GA above the Fall Line, mostly cyattle (that's an old Geechi pronunciation. Y'all boys know Geechi?). Wife's ancestors are also from middle GA where we drive through. Places there haven't changed much.

Good morning boys!

Isn't it nice when people on TBN look out for each other.

Drew, in that picture with the worm parts,:p the peppers look like banana peppers. Are those hot too? I grow sweet banana peppers that are not hot, but I know there is also a hot variety. I also grow green and yellow bell peppers and love them. Your first photo looks to be a yellow chili pepper and I see some jalapenos too. Were the plants mis-labelled when you bought them?

Today is supposed to be the last hot hot day for awhile. The forecast is for 97 F today and then no higher than 80 F tomorrow. BRING IT ON! We also have a 70% chance of rain tomorrow so I'm hoping my yard and garden get a free treat and I get to not spend 1/4 of my day watering something.
