The loader looks to be much more heavy duty than what I had on the 400X on the 4520

I don't think I'm going to need chains...had them when I had the 4400 with turfs, but I never used them after we moved to Vermont. I do want to rig the snow blower up...see it the PTO drive shaft is going to be OK and figure out how the rear remotes work with the joystick controller

What is the control Knob behind the window for?
Then I see 3 switches on the left fender,
is that the forward and reverse inching switchs?
So the joystick is able to switch from the loader to the rear remote,
I knew some of the larger tractors did that with the proportional electric valves.

Heard relays clicking on the UPSs while I was making that last post, and sure enough, power went off at 5:17AM. Otherwise, I wouldn't even have noticed.:thumbsup:

When I got the e-mail from the dealer, gotta admit I was concerned...but since the dealer had been acquired by United Ag and Turf, systems such as sales, parts and such, have changed...all on-line now. These guys at the dealer are old school...and things like this will happen.
Other then familiarizing myself with the controls, I won't have any real need for the tractor until the snow flies...as I wrote...bit of a bummer, but no real problems

I was going to say the situation was like a dollar waiting on a dime. But I see it arrived, so I hope you enjoy it and it serves you well! I have a feeling you will like the hydrostatic.....and the brakes belong on the left, so you can use them to brake steer.

Well, I may have bit off a big bite to chew. For a song, I bought at auction, a sight unseen Steiner 230. Knowing that it is not running, but not knowing what is wrong. It is on an old trailer that does not come with it, so I'm making a guess that it died in it's tracks. Hopefully something not too expensive. It has a kubota diesel engine, a deck that looks in good shape, and tires in decent shape....Hope to travel next week to pick it up. I know nothing about Steiners or Ventracs.

Today started off pretty bad with breaking my tooth on a banana and e-muffin this morning and then I found out that all the mulch I put around the greenhouse was supposed to be compost.

BUT the dentist was in and put on a temporary crown and I was eating lunch by noon. I got an abundance of exercise and tractor time loading the FEL by hand, funny I dumped 7 buckets but it took 14 to remove the mulch - lots of quality tractor time - not too bad of a day. My parts even came in for the Honda tiller and it's now fixed with new lines and filters.

Good evening all. 64F this morning partly cloudy, light breeze. Wind cranked up about 9:30, sky was variable cloudy today, and high temp was 85F. Front passage above 6 in the morning, might rain. Started the day with a bike ride, then filled up wood wagon for insert, and tarped the wood pile, lot of rain in forecast for next week. Oh and did get a nap in and clean leave off of front and back porch. No new gopher activity today :dance1:

I bought a used HF parts washer that the PO had been using with some kind of water based cleaning fluid. He didn't bother to clean and rinse it out after each use, and the pump innards were shot, and the inside of the tank was badly corroded. Unfortunately I trusted the seller when he told me it was good as new, and ended up trashing it.

Yeah ... with water-based cleaning fluids corrosion could be an issue ... one which I hadn't fully considered.

No matter - water is out due to freezing from the cold weather here.

I found another used washer, this one a home built at a motorcycle dealership, and use Stoddard solvent in it. It's a low vapor point solvent I get at a local fuel depot for about $5/gallon.

Without researching local fuel suppliers, I can easily get K-1 kerosene here for $4.28/gallon which includes the sales tax which is probably the most economical route to go ...

The washer uses an automotive type filter in the supply line, and that seems to do a pretty good job of catching debris and keeping the fluid clean.

Yeah, I saw a set up like that on another site ... guy was using a second container (5 gallon bucket ?) perhaps as a settling tank ... along with a spin-on oil filter in the supply line. I'll probably just use the Motorguard filter with some TP ... :laughing:

But I haven't seen the bottom of that tank in quite some time, so it's probably overdue for a good cleaning, too.

LOL ... yup ... I need to drain the liquid here and scoop out the crud on the bottom ... will make a good fire starter ... the liquid can go in the bulk diesel tank after it's filtered ... :thumbsup:

Meets or exceeds NLGI Grade 2 ... will use the red grease from TSC since it meets the spec and is fairly cheap ($5 and change/lb)

Guessing 4 or 5 pounds ought to do it ... :thumbsup:

Vet trip was good, both pups good. Kekoa lost a bit of weight, Makani got his microchip, back for 4th round of shots next month.

By the time we got home and had lunch only an hour or so to putter around. Replaced leaking couplers on leaking air lines.

UPS now says delivery is tomorrow.

63F and clear @ 01:15, headed down to an overnight low of 58F.

Took hydraulic cylinders and stub axles up to shop.

Got five bird feeders relocated off of the lawn and closer to the house, including mealworm feeder from up in the field. Refilled the three sunflower feeders, one nyjer, and the mealworm. Birds were all over them after I refilled ... :thumbsup:

Hauled two bags of sunflower seeds down to the back (and just remembered now to go down and bring them inside ... :laughing

Rounded up 6 plastic buckets and brought them around back, cleaned out three and brought them up to the garage along with a couple of shovels, a sledgehammer, and a propane tank.

Report on beeswax/linseed oil combo on sledgehammer handle:

Didn't turn out like I was expecting, but I'm happy with it. It took quite a while for it to dry and when it did it wasn't slick. Initially, it was pretty tacky ... but eventually it became quite dry. And it seems like it largely impervious to moisture ... :thumbsup:

Added four bucketloads of crusher run to upper drive and spread it out. Still needs some more.

Blew leaves off area on west side where I dumped screened soil to sow new grass so it could dry out a little more. Hope to plant that later today.

Screen a few more bucketloads of soil from the compost pile.

Got shipping notification from Rural King on the wet sandblaster, should be here Monday ... :thumbsup:

The knob controls the rockshaft, raising or lowering the draft (lower) links.
And, you're right...the 3 switches are for inching forward or reverse. I haven't tried them yet, but I will this weekend when I rig the snow blower
These will be pretty handy since aligning the tractor to an implement can be a real PITA sometimes

The joystick switch can be plumbed to the front (for a grapple) or to the rear remotes. The previous owner may have had a grapple, but I'm thinking it was for a hydraulic top link. Complete guess on my part though
