Guy saves ?1 Corvette as flames approach house | Autoweek

That day has already come and gone here, Drew, I hope forever but I know it's just a matter of time before it happens again. CalFire recommends people keep a 100' "fire safe" zone around their houses with nothing combustible in it. Look at those homes in the linked video, and ask yourself what's gonna happen when those flames come over that ridge and start down the hill? It's a sickening feeling when you're running (actually RUNNING) around the house, going from room to room grabbing those few things you can't live without, thinking "I might not ever see what's in here again". That's why all the mowing, all the brush cutting, and all the attention paid to smoke in the air and aircraft noise in the sky.

Good Morning!!!! 69F @ 7:15AM. Sunny. High 94F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph.

Got back to applying vinyl upholstery cloth to some of the dash parts yesterday, and really like the results so far. Takes a while waiting for the contact cement to dry just right, and some of the pieces with complicated shapes take several rounds of gluing and smoothing the material into place so as not to end up with upholstery stuck in the wrong spot. But even then it's been easy to pull it back off and apply more glue, and wait around some more...

During one of those waits I got the new license plate bolted onto the little Honda Trail 90, and I think this morning I'll take it on a little ride over to the neighbor's cherry orchard and pick up another couple pounds of the delicious fruit. Yesterday a box came with a set of tires in it, and some new rear view mirrors, so I'll get those put on before it gets too hot to work (or pick).

With everything being so dry, there's a complete ban on burning, and it should be no surprise that fireworks are illegal as well. Even possession can land you a big fine, but that doesn't seem to save the firefighters much work every year. I'll be staying home to keep an eye on things, and will be up really late Tuesday night for sure!

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

Well, the cork broke off in the brand new bottle of Italian Moscato and now the wifey and I have to drink it all.

:)

Stayed inside almost all day....So HOT!

Put new light rocker switches in the master bathroom toilet area. Was a bigger problem than I anticipated due to the cheap crap the builder put in which involved just pushing the 14 ga wires in between brass fins. Switched over to new regular style, but had to get some large wire nuts for all the neutral wires I had to make up. I'm not an electrician and would lose my rear trying to make a living at it.

Belated 150 year birthday congrats to Gary and all of bakerg's fellow countrymen.

I am really appreciative to Canada for quite a few things, such as occasionally sending us over to the UK funny, quick witted comedians like Katherine Ryan as sort of humor missionaries. The Canadian Tilley hat company also deserves a special mention.

One hot summer, in search of something to keep the sun off my head, I bought a Tilley wide brimed hat from a little shop who's owner was almost unbelievably enthusiastic about the quality of their hats, though lamented the fact that it meant there was rarely ever any need for his customers to make repeat purchases. A typical salesman's pitch ? Nope, turned that he was telling the truth as I have since put that hat to good use, not just on hot days, but also on many many wet ones too and it still does those jobs as well as the first day I wore it, which must be over 15 years ago now.

Eric, my Tilley hat is about that age too, remarkably well made, instead of boating as it was designed for I now use it to mow, and then throw it in the washing machine when needed. Baseball caps are not much help against the sun, need that wide brim.

pretty warm out already and getting hotter. Like others, I tried to venture out yesterday several times, did a little weeding and watering, came inside soaked in sweat and said that's enough, heat and humidity takes it out of you.
Wanted to cool it yesterday literally and figuratively since helpers are coming today and that will get me helping and plenty sweaty. We have a lot of tree and bush trimming to do.

Rain and storms predicted every day this week, but I still have to go out today with the water wagon. Can't depend upon the rain, could go around us.

79 degrees out at 5am, yikes, no wonder the hvac came on all night.
