My dad spent much of his adult life helping others...he loved to quote: "A man never stands taller than when he stoops to help someone else...." The friend I helped does much for others herself and is very active in volunteer work for her church....so I really enjoyed helping her out.

I understand that, I spent most of Thursday replacing mom's supply line from water meter to house.

I cooked breakfast at the homeless shelter yesterday and it felt good to be helping.

I went to the local Gun Show with a bunch of buddies and bought a new compact Taurus 9mm for concealed carry, an inside the waist holster for the back, 300 rds of 9mm, 500 rds of .223, and a couple "gasden" related T-Shirts.

It was a good day!

Today is Church and hang out with my babygirl. I think she is going to like my new little red car...

Tomorrow I leave to ST LOuis for a couple days...

Be well & God Bless all!
David

Poured second cup of coffee. 59° with clouds this morning. Heading to 76° with chance of thunderstorms throughout the day. Got all the shrubs out. Now I need to fill in all the holes and rebuild retaining wall. Will take a few days. NASCAR this afternoon.
Good Morning All.

71* on the way to ONLY 90*, (We hope)! Maybe I can finish brush hogging the cattle pasture, before the cold beer starts calling to me today.

And, if the weatherman isn't just joking with us, we should be in the upper 80s the rest of this week! Woohoo! Would be great for Texas in July, since July is usually triple digits!

Good morning everybody, 60 degrees here and looks like it's going to be a really beautiful day. Will devote it to unloading the truck and trailer and sorting out and storing all the materials from the ramp I took apart on Saturday. Time permitting I will do more mowing...have a great day, everyone.

72 going to low 80's looks like more rain today and showers most of the week. Softball tournament today for my daughter not fun in the rain.

sixdogs; Sorry that I missed this. Yes, many places in Texas usually get rainfall. The problem is the drought of the last 5-6 years! The farther west of Fort Worth that one travels, the less rain is likely, and the farther east and/or south of Dallas that one travels can have decent rainfall. Houston usually gets rain weekly, if not daily. But you have to deal with Houston, the city, as well as the humidity. And, even Houston is way behind in rainfall, these days.

Thank you farmgirl...We, or at least I have toyed with the idea of locating to TX as a final retirement place. I used to hang around Houston back in the early 1970's while at Ft Polk and really liked the conservative people and values of Texans. Got to have that rainfall, however.

A good Sunday morning to all.
72 going up to 82, actually cool, with lots of rain and even a flash flood forecast for tonight.
Where is all this rain coming from?

The consolation is that the veggies are starting to come in, those that love the rain. The strawberries are very unhappy with all this water, and the
berries taste, for want of a better word, watered down.
Picked our first pepper, came from the hot pepper patch though stuff got mixed in and we really don't know what is coming up.
Can anyone recognize what it is? I think it's hot, I rubbed the outside and got a "heat" smell. or maybe I just picked a nice golden pepper too soon...
Picked eight of those beautiful and utterly destructive worms off them a few days ago, it's amazing what one worm can eat in a night. Just strips the little plant.
All worms have been recycled properly.

And here we are, not even July yet, and the potato patch gave up some beautiful red potatoes. Going to have a steak tonight with those potatoes, and a salad with our own lettuce, and our first cucumber and a few of those beans we picked. I can never tell whether something is an edible pod pea or a bean or something...lot to learn about beans. Never grew them on the farm growing up and have no idea why. So I'm not sure whether to pick them small or let them grow and get peas/beans out of the pod. The beans were all "party planted" so I have no idea what went there. We have melons starting to grow, which is cool to see. Last year the bugs got them all. We are organically spraying this year, and all this rain is just perfect to make those melons grow. I forgot to wrap the celery, which I know I have to do, those stalks are almost big enough to eat already.

Our neighbors now look up in interest when the colored plastic buckets come out of the back of the Suburban. They know the goodies are arriving...we have one Indian neighbor, a Patel as one might expect, and they love the hot peppers and frankly anything else we bring over. They are sort of amazed I think that in their first year there, people they don't know come and bring them food. They were so cute with it, mother, father, grandparents ,and one adorable young daughter. They returned the favor last summer by bringing over some Indian specialties. Now I like almost any food, and weird is ok. I'm not even sure what they brought, it was beyond strange... and some was so hot we couldn't eat it, both of us have acid reflux which is why we give away the hot peppers. Need to remember to tell folk NOT to return them in the casseroles...
So of course I told the Patels everything was delicious, what else do you say?

There is nothing like pulling up some red potato plants and seeing all those prizes come out of the ground. We liken it to an Easter egg hunt. marvelous fun.

Need to chill today. Too much driving around, which I'm not allowed to do so I need a quiet day at home. yeah right. Let's see, the powerwasher beckons on the back deck, the lawn needs mowing, etc, etc. Can't do the powerwashing yet, but I can ride the JD mower around very slowly. I am really sick of this hard collar, but when I don't wear it, pain is a very effective reminder to keep it on. Two more weeks to wear it, I can do this. My neck already has way more movement that I could do before the operation, and I'm not even supposed to be turning my head yet... no more click, pop, grinding noises. Just have to be patient, which I really fail at...

Got home from work last night and mowed the lawn. Thought I better mow it as there is a forcast of rain on both Sunday and Monday. Beautiful morning so far but you can see cloud in the distance.

thanks Sam. I let my wife drive me once and let's say that didn't go too well..., so I've found that holding on to the wheel
and using my arms as shock absorbers works much better than being a passenger.

They were not kidding me when they told me this would hurt and last six weeks. Here I am ending the third week and I have no desire to take the collar off, it hurts
too much when I do. All because of a fat head, my twenty pound bowling ball on my shoulders pushes down on those transplanted bone discs that are trying to grow into their surroundings and constantly reminds me that more healing needs to be done. The hospital nurse did agree to let me wind down the pain killers next week so I can go back on my regular arthritis medicine. Plan to do that for two weeks, then see when I'm done if I can get off all the new stuff. I can already tell my neck "works better" but it's hard to get overly excited when it still hurts.

Only one place you need to meet all your requirements; that's *********, TX. I swear that when it's dry as a bone everywhere else, it will be raining in *********. It's in the middle of the Piney Woods region and you have the Texas State Railroad to take visitors on when they come to see you. Of course, lots of rain equals hot and humid when the summer is here, but at least ********* has a nice crisp smell of pine trees instead of the refinery stench of Houston.

Drew, that neck brace looks about as uncomfortable as tying your shoe laces while standing on your head.:confused2: I know you can't wait to get out of that. At least you have some nice stuff from your garden. It's amazing how you are at least a month behind us and maybe 1-1/2 months. My sweet peas and sugar snaps are in a dry heap in my garden where my wife and grandson stacked all the vines when they took down the trellis lines and netting. Good luck with your motorhome search.
