FINALLY! 1.42” of rain in 35 minutes. My grass has already started greening up.
Got the tractor back from the 50 hour service and a couple of minor warranty issues. Of course he got here in the middle of the storm. We just all waited it out.

I make my own spaghetti sauce, have for years, only thing canned is tomato paste. The rest is cut up fresh vegetables, fresh garlic, thyme, basil, etc...

Sitting on front porch, rain has started, blue sky in sight so won’t last long. Temp dropped 10° to 72° and thunder rumbles. Worst of storm is south of us.
Sprayed sevin on cabbage earlier, bugs tearing it up.
Neighbor still mowing in the rain, he’s a plumber, used to getting wet.
By the time I type this on my phone, rain about stopped.

Just got in from mowing. Radio kept getting weather alerts. Not fun... since sunshine here...alerts did not apply.

Looks like weed whacking is next up.

Hope all have a good evening. See you in the AM.

Simply shaking my head after reading that in Philadelphia they are seriously considering taking down a historical statue of
Christopher Columbus because his arrival in North America coincided with "suppression of the indigenous species".
I think what was done to the American Indians was a tragedy, and maybe it still isn't so good now. But blaming it on Columbus?

We can and should learn from history, but trying to rewrite it is nuts.
soon they will give legal rights to the buffalo...or sue Flagler's heirs for endangering the Key West snail darter.

they even had to put an armed guard around Columbus's statue due to folks damaging it. Instead of spending energy on this nonsense, how
about working up a sweat building a Habitat for Humanity home? Do something useful...

Maybe this is how Southerners feel when they see Confederate historical statues taken down.

not meaning to be "political" simply commenting on PC out of control.
Likely preaching to the choir here, back to regular programming.

more knocks on the door a few minutes ago from lost in space neighbors, until aides herded them back to their rooms.
No ma'am, I'm not the medical services aide...all they have to do is pull the cord in their room and help will come, but
wasn't getting into that...

hope you all have a good evening. Been a good day here, got a lot accomplished, time for a few chapters of book to put me to sleep.

That’s a neat picture.

City of brotherly love not so brotherly or loving now. These cities are destroying themselves with their policies. Who wants to visit them now? You couldn’t pay me to go to Seattle, New York, even if they didn’t have Covid.

Local rumor is there will be a fascist group show up in Gettysburg over the 4th to attack statues. Be prepared for the 2nd battle of Gettysburg.

It's all so strange. When confederate flags were taken down some years ago since some thought they were offensive the flags sold like crazy. We're not that far from Appomattox, the surrender grounds and gift shops were super busy. You saw confederate flags everywhere, some huge ones right off major highways on private property.
So it went from rarely ever seeing one to seeing them displayed everywhere.
Racism wasn't an issue...but now that it's considered a major issue, it is becoming one.
It's like all issues. Yes, years ago most people owned a few guns...but make the 2nd amendment a big major issue and gun/ammo sales go through the roof.
Let sleeping dogs lie. Address important problems. Why escalate trivial matters?

66 and the rain just stopped from an unusual morning pop up storm. Looking for 85.

I bet Kyle's homemade sauce is best, but we really like this Gia Russa Hot Sicilian sauce for store-bought.

Pole sawed trees around the driveway and yard for 3 hours yesterday...we had low humidity which made the work go pleasantly. A FedEx truck drove in just as I had finished a place where branches would touch big trucks, and I'm sure he was glad, but never slowed down. I ended with 5 piles to drag down to the rabbit brush pile...although the last couple of days I've seen it come and go from under the lumber rack under my shelter.

Got the rest of the yard and trails mowed, then helped my wife unload a Costco run. My credit card company sends me alerts any time a charge of a $100 or more is made...so I was surprised at how little was in her SUV when she got home, since I already knew it cost $354.

Home grown tomato sauce is the shazam. My wifey has been making a basil/thyme version, and she ends up eating most of it like tomato soup. I can tell you one thing, I have a total new found respect for a good jar of Classico Mushroom and ripe olive sauce for about $2.50. It is SO much work to put up sauce. My wifey just gave away enough tomatoes and onions to make another 1.5 gallons or so.

Nice photo Mike. Can you sleep downstairs until AC fixed? Glad I don't have the technical style of AC. When mine gave me trouble last week, a buddy helped me diagnose it with a multimeter. I have a 7000btu portable ac unit, which we use, but it's a drop in the bucket. I need to get another small window unit that runs on 110v. That way, it doesn't make it such an extreme thing, waiting on parts to fix our unit.

Went up into the attic to see if I could find a start capacitor in the furnace blower motor yesterday, but didn't have any luck. I wonder if there is even a capacitor up there, as the only electricity going into the furnace housing is via a 120 VAC cord that plugs into a standard wall outlet that's been nailed to a 2x4. It's a York furnace, which google told me is now part of Johnson Controls, but due to CV19 they're not answering their phones these days. I left a message, and this morning shortly after 7, a real nice lady called to try to help me. I did find the model number inside one of the furnace doors, so I gave her that and in a few minutes she emailed me operator's and installation manuals. Haven't looked at them yet, but fingers are crossed. I had more luck out at the compressor, and got more make/model info and a GE part number off of that big fat capacitor. But I hit the jackpot when I found a place in town that had a replacement in stock that was on Carrier's list of blessed vendors, for less than I could find one for on the internet. I'll swing by there this afternoon while I'm in town chasing groceries.

My A/C buddy says to look into a hard starter kit for your compressor. He says the blower is small potatoes compared to the compressor's initial load.
I looked it up and saw something like this.
Goodman CSR U 3 Hard Start Kit for 4 5 Ton Heat Pumps

Good evening all. 71F for the start, clear, light breeze and more humidity. Wind was light, sky clouded up to mostly cloudy, and high temp was 88F. Went fishing this morning to practice with fly rod, had trouble landing fish at first, then hooked the largemouth below and the got into some large sunfish. Getting some rust knocked off. Afternoon was nap and work on newest acquisition, adjust seat height, change pedals, clean and lube chain and drive train. Have new bike computer to put on it.

That is same mower I have for B2910 Kubota. When I could not pull spring for belt back to pin. I made this bracket to adjust spring tension. View attachment 660827View attachment 660828

Ron,

Thanks.

Good to know ...

I have never had the occasion to pull the spring back to the pin (still on the original belt) ... but from the looks of it, I'll have my work cut out for me if I have to do so.

Temp dropped to 68F earlier as a thunderstorm passed through. Got a pretty good downpour ... later the rain started up again ...

That pretty much put a damper on outdoor/mowing activities for the rest of the day.

Scotch Ply disc ordered for the Simplicity.

Managed to get up to the shop and check on the progress with the brush cleaner. It's doing it's job ... polyurethane has softened up and is coming off with the brush comb ...

Checked bluebird house #3 yesterday ... a house sparrow has built a nest and laid eggs. Need to get the Deluxe Repeating Sparrow Trap set up and put out again. Probably should also remove the eggs one at a time, mark them, render them infertile by refrigerating them, and then replace them in the nest - so the HOSP parents don't go on a jihad on the bluebirds in the other nestbox.

Ran down to the PO ... fired up the grill after I got back and cooked up some burgers which were well received ...

Tomorrow is looking pretty nice: predicted high of 87F and only a 20% chance of showers.

That was wed night sunset, here is tonight.

Good morning all. Woke up to a blood red sky, maybe some of that African dust has come our way too. The clouds are much appreciated to blot out the sun, yesterday peaked at 30C/86F, which was fine as I had already decided to give myself the day off. I did feel a twinge of guilt at doing nothing more strenuous than watch as my wife cut the grass in advance of today's expected thunderstorms and took a walk around the field next to the house with a knapsack after tea. It is almost 8 years since it was first trenched for our ground source heat pump, yet weed seeds are still germinating along each of the pipe runs.

Mostly, looks like you had a great morning fishing. Did catching on a fly add to the enjoyment ? I was out doing practice casts last week. Caught 2 buttercups and one daisy :)

Rip, hope that was just rain coming and not the start of an alien invasion. Independence day will be more than just a sci-fi film in England this year - pubs are allowed to open again on the 4th July.

good morning all. Warm day here, 72 already going up to 90 in full sun.
slept well, coffee brewing, expect to have a quieter day today.

I reread my post on Columbus and wish I had not posted it, here at least. It was, despite my honest intentions, too political. My apologies.
Will not happen again.

still having problems with my older Apple SE phone's ringer. One time I hear it ring, then it seems to reset itself to silent and I get complaints calls are going to voice mail
because I don't even know they are coming in. I think I have it set to vibrate too, so if placed on wood desk, should make some noise. Silent. I go into Settings and everything seems fine there too. The silence button is recessed, not like I'm hitting that as you have to move it with your fingernail. If anyone has this model phone, any advice would be appreciated. Such a big jump in price to go to next size up, not motivated but need to fix this.

Hope you all have a nice Friday
