Only got about 4 rounds on the flail.
As I was coming into a turn point I noticed and commented to self about the wet grass, not recalling that it had been that wet. Looked back as I completed turn only to find flail covered in oil. Looked under tractor and hydro fluid is spewing like a garden sprayer. Naturally, I’m at far point from tractorshed but decide to head there. Got maybe 50 ft and lost steering etal, tractor coasting downslope into the fence. Trudged up to the house, got wife, chain, and Ridgeline. At least needed to get tractor where I could get under it.
Chained Ridgeline to flail and attempted to pull. Only minor gains before I’d lose traction. Headed upslope of course. Got it clear of fence when John came down and offered his assistance. Trick was to gain a little, hold that gain by braking tractor while repositioning Ridgeline.

Once in a clear area, able to disconnect the flail and reposition to front with hopes of getting it turned toward the house. Success, me in Ridgeline, John on tractor for the brakes, got it up to the driveway.
Crawled under and found the problem - the hydro filer. Not unusual that I hit the loose gravel, but I do remember hearing an unusual clink. Must have been a rock hitting the filter.

Only 1115, time to get to my dealer before he closes at 1200.
Half way there by time I learn none in stock. Couldn’t cross reference at NAPA either.
Came home, ordered online, done for day.

Wow! Is the loose gravel in the grass or the driveway? You won't have to spray roundup where ever the oil sprayed. Sorry for your troubles. I was able to buy 5 gallons of Deere compatible hydraulic/gear oil 2 weeks ago for only $35. I should go back and get another bucket while it's cheap.

Kyle, gravel is in a strange area, sorta transition area. My drive is on an old sugarcane road, quite solid. I’ve dumped rock there over the years to spread elsewhere, 2 years ago we let a friend park his 40 ft container there a bit. Probably mowed over it 100 times over the years. Might have had mower a tad lower today.
This is an older pic, more rock than now

While I did look at the captions, I kept being mesmerized that you live in a post card picture. ;)

And...it looks like a great place for an expensive golf course between you and the ocean. Do you own anything past the manicured area?

8 years ago when I joined here the scene was eerily similar. Sitting in a big chair in hospital, in this case my being with my wife who took a long time to die from cancer, time we used to best advantage, went on cruises, etc. Last two years was 200 days in hospital and I was in the chair every day all day. I wouldn't go through that for myself, having surgeons chop me up, but my wife wanted as much time with her Mom as she could. So we went down that long road together and admittedly I came out of it worse for the wear.

So now I look back over my online "tractor buddies" and am grateful for the friendships I have made. As we get older, we all fall apart as do our parents. We get by strengthened by friendship and mutual respect.
Thank you all for years of friendship and making my life better.

It's been my honor and privilege to know you Drew.

All the best ... and keep up the fight ...

Cylinder rod/gland nut/piston disassembled (almost ...):

IMG_0251 copy.jpg

Pic of the seal in the gland nut that failed:

IMG_0247 copy.jpg

Same removed (right), along with the outer wiper (left) that popped out and allowed fluid to leak all over:

IMG_0249 copy.jpg

This is the "almost" part - it's the middle seal on the piston:

IMG_0252 copy.jpg

I believe it may be urethane ... it ain't real flexible ...

I tried a couple of times to get under it and remove it with a pick ... and failed (was being cautious - didn't want to damage the piston - until I can get the neighbor down here to supervise)

This is probably the type that he said he had to immerse in boiling (near the flash point) oil to heat it so he could install it. And it was still a bear ...

Anyways, leak checks done ... and passed ...

Got the rosebud fired up (without having it backfiring even ...) and bent some metal on the LPGS build:

No, that fence is our line, can’t see the lines left and right, the trees near bottom almost the line.

good morning all.
RS, yep, that sure is busted, nice pics
David lives as close to Paradise as any of us could, of course I'm partial to water views. My sister has a home near the ocean in California and the view of the waves crashing are mesmerizing. Of course I think those of you that live near the Rocky Mountains and look up at those huge ranges covered in snow, that's awful special too. What is so unique about Davids place is all the improvements he has constantly made to it, quite a fully engineered ecocsystem, and best of all, both he and his wife Sophie clearly love it there. Have to go for your dreams.

I haven't had my hair washed in over three weeks, plus it's awfully long, so maybe I'll get a treat this morning and get nurse to wash my hair.
When they move me out of here, whenever that is hopefully next week, first thing I'm doing at new place is go to their barber and get a haircut. My hair has usually been on the short side but no hair cut in almost three months has me looking like a college professor...I'd rather it be a little neater. My brothers both have fairly short hair, one is still working, seems easier to take care of that way. Mine is naturally wavy, which my sister loves. What is it about women and longer hair on men?

Have a nice Sunday guys, kiss your wives and tell your family you love them.

Waiting for first cup of coffee to cool. 49° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 77° with sunny skies this morning. Changed mower deck belt yesterday. Then cut lawn. Gave dogs a bath. They sure need some grooming. I did some trimming. But their hair is longer than it is normally in winter. Some Garden Pond maintenance this morning. Then head up to sons place for a visit. Have not seen grand kids since February.
Peony flower/plant that we moved from our east side house 48 years ago.

Drew, nothing like clean hair to make you feel better. I was in need of a hair cut when they closed everything down in March. I did trim all that was falling into my eyes last week. Have a Whole Foods 13 miles from me. But no direct route to it. Takes about 45 minutes to get there on roads with lots of traffic. Anytime you want to talk call me. Sent you my phone number.

David, hope no other problems than need of a filter. Place looks good.

RS, 20 years and no leaks on my FEL yet. Thanks for the pictures.

Buckeye, your wife will be happy she will not be looking at tape lines anymore. I hired a guy to do ceilings repairs and painting. So happy that I did. Cannot see where repairs were done.

Prayers and best wishes for everyone.

Good Morning All.

67 sunny going to 85. Caught the edge of a thunderstorm last night. Nice breeze this morning. All birds hungry, and a little pushy today.

David, sorry about that filter. Your place looks great. Are those tall trees downhill from you native? Seem so much taller than anything else around. Maybe the other areas timbered over the years to be planted?

Ron, nice photo of that flower. I washed my dog yesterday, too. She has a skin allergty we are fighting, so a medicated shampoo. She is so calm and stands still the entire time...but she is a water dog and would rather be in it than out of it.

RS, I have a slow leak on my FEL cylinder now, after 16 years. I'm gonna have to let the dealer tackle it sometime.

Replaced a couple of tines on my 3 point tiller yesterday. These are the "new" tines...I replaced all of them a couple of years ago. I never had one of the original ones break, they just got worn down. Glad I saved some of the best ones to use as replacements. Took tiller off and put the bush hog on, but ran of time before need to cut several food plots with 6 foot tall oats, wheat and rye, and peas. I'm late replanting them...latest year ever.

55 right now...high, a very comfortable upper 60's.
Mowed most of the lawn yesterday...I'll finish and trim today (soon). We had a couple pretty strong showers late afternoon, which is why I didn't complete the work yesterday.
Field needs mowing, so that's on the agenda. I also have to complete an audit report...too pretty a day for that though.

Good morning All. 60 and clear at dawn. Headed for 78 and lots of sun today.

I’ve been a tbn member for more than 12 years, but still a relative newbie to gm. Drew, you and your gardening exploits are what got me hooked on this thread. I hope that you are on the road to full recovery because I can’t wait to hear about your next adventures! I would be proud to consider you among my friends .
