Island ? - almost an entire continent.
it's just Texas sized... one of my closest friends has a kitchen, and counter, that takes up a third of their house.
They are foodies and love to cook. It's where you spend the most time.
Isn't that about the size of Sodamo's?

Thermometer says 24, that's not good, since I took the advice of the local farmers yesterday and did not put up row covers for what's in the ground already. We shall see....

Kind of the opposite of forgetting to open the roof vent and door of my greenhouse while the volunteers were helping me plant collards.
When I finally got to it in the middle of the afternoon, it was pretty grim. 116 inside and lots of wilted plants. Most came back but some of the flowers got cooked. I've found the little roof vent does almost nothing to take the excess heat away, have to open the door.

Going to cook myself a nice sausage and eggs breakfast, Jimmy Dean Natural sausage with no nitrites, no nitrates and no MSG.
That's about as good as i can find around here for something that came from a pig.

going up to 55 today and no freezing weather ahead in the ten day.
Today I may plant some onions, Ailsa Craig variety, average 3 to 5 pounds a piece. This I have to see....
I'll also plant Texas Sweets when they become available, need to ask at feed store what they have.

Gentle Sunday prayers for all in need.

"I've found the little roof vent does almost nothing to take the excess heat away, have to open the door."

Drew, unless you've got wall vents, down low, the only way the roof vent would get circulation is by opening your entry door.

Thanks I do not believe I’ve ever seen knotty alder until your picture

Same with me Buppies. Patricia saw them in a local cabinet showroom and decided that's what we would do too.

It's on the plus side this morning 3°. Yesterday was mostly sunny and in the mid 20's. Today is going to be part cloudy In the the mid 20's with the wind picking up later. And RNG cold front coming through overnight.

Didn't do much yesterday. I don't have any plans for today.

Hope everyone enjoys their Sunday.
CWB.

43°F here this morning and overcast. We expect to see 61°F this afternoon with more rain forecast for tonight. Just barely got to low 40's yesterday afternoon.

No big plans for today, Sunday is usually tractor and zero turn mower maintenance day but, since none have done much lately, due to very squishy pastures and yard, I can take most of today off to "conserve energy".

"The law of conservation of energy states that the total energy of an isolated system remains constant; it is said to be conserved over time. This law means that energy can neither be created nor destroyed; rather, it can only be transformed or transferred from one form to another."

Perhaps an extra bowl of LCR Chicken Noodle Soup today. Mmmm .... Mmmm Goood!

I did take some chicken thighs and drumsticks out of the freezer, to fry in the Air Fryer tonight for dinner.

Sorry to hear about the barn fire and loss of horses.

Hoping everyone has an excellent Sunday with significant "conservation of energy".

Prayers to all.

Good Morning!!!! 35F @ 6:00AM. A shower or two around the area early, then partly cloudy during the afternoon. High 44F. Winds SSE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 30%.

When I looked out the window this morning I saw stars and no snow, though it's cold enough to make some if the moisture would have been there. Rain is in the forecast almost every day for the next ten, but no snow. I'll take it.

Fingers crossed for your seedlings, Drew. Sounds like Alisa's onions'll be big as bowling balls!

Sent three years worth of electricity usage info off to the electrical contractor for a solar system quote. Costs ranged from $55 to $350/month, with the big numbers coming in July and August for the A/C. Probably won't be able to offset all of that with solar, but it would be nice to at least put a dent in it. He'll be out for a site visit Wednesday.

David, if you had to pick a battery technology this year, what would it be?

Got the new elevation data entered onto the spreadsheet, then had to reverse the order of the rows to get the 3D plot to accurately reflect the lay of the land. Somewhere in there is a 100x90 spot for a shop and parking pad, but it'll take some diggin' to find it.

Got the XM radio working again with the GPS by erasing the memory on the GPS and loading an older version back on. Found a new map update and started the download for it at the end of the day; it'll take several hours to finish, then be converted to a version that'll fit on the GPS. Even with that, the file is too large to go into the internal memory, so instead it goes onto a 16 Gb memory card. But if the the same mapset somehow finds its way onto both the internal memory and the card, the GPS'll lock up, requiring battery removal to get it going again. And to get the battery out, you need a 3mm Allen wrench, not something you find in every tool kit until it's happened on a trip a time or two...:confused2:

The wind howled most of the day yesterday; not a lot of rain but it sure sucked the heat out of the house. Went through three loads of wood in the stove, leaving lots of coals that don't make a lot of heat. Also noticed the new tarp flapping wildly off one end of the wood pile and had to go out and secure it before it got shredded. I hate wind.

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend!

Around here, it has a bad habit of converting itself from high energy to low.

Good Morning Everyone!!!!!!!

17ºF was today’s low, 23ºF now, mid to high 20ºF’s later. The wood stove feels real good this AM and even better Wifey made some super caffeinated coffee. It looks like NE will see that cold, white stuff falling from the sky Tuesday/Wednesday. I may see 8” - 11” of snow mixed with sleet, freezing rain, and rain. It will begin and end frozen. Closer to the coast all/mostly rain, and those to my north and west will see more snow.

There have been a few chimney fires around here with the loss of lives, pets, and domestic animals. It always saddens me.

RNG- Thanks for the laugh and the weather discussion. I am surprised they did not mention the Kona Low impacting on David. Yes I read this stuff daily from the NWS Albany, Norton/Boston, and sometimes Mt Holly offices, then I go to the SPC Meso discussion, then the WPC (Weather Prediction Center) and later (after TBN) and thanks to Buppies, Drew, et.al. then the WxDisco and then “Cranky”. Your area and the west CONUS have been getting nailed the year due to the Pacific energy and those :censored: split jet streams. I’d loved to use the term “orographic” here on this thread:rolleyes:

Further evidence of my having no life. :embarrassed:

Eric- Thanks for the laugh and you are braver than I.

I hope that everyone is having decent day today.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.

Good morning to all! Low of 24 this morning, jumping up to 52 by this afternoon. CWB's cold front comes across here in the early morning hours, kicking up the wind and only providing a high of 36 tomorrow. There is a chance of 1" of snow when the front comes in.

Sorry to hear about the fires Buckeye, fire is always devastating. Sad news about the horses.

Drew, hopefully the plantings tolerated the freeze...patiently waiting for an update. There are thermostatically controlled power vents available for the greenhouse. Maybe they would help?

Rick, beautiful kitchen! Alder is a beautiful wood. The 'list' for our new cottage had Alder as #1, followed by Hickory, then White Oak. The White Oak won out due to cost and matching to our china cabinet /hutch and kitchen table set.

Today's agenda...need to go to the grocery store, then some other quick errands, then?

Everyone have a peaceful and quiet Sunday, prayers out for those needing.

I'm having trouble finding time to keep up. A new phenomena, falling behind, not getting to the last post in order to post myself, then not getting to come back to the party for a day and finding myself behind again.

Prayers for all, spoken and subtle. Keep mending.

Rick, nice soup and kitchen.

PJS, love the guitar. Waiting to see the end. Did all the guts come with the kit???

My daughter was loaned a cheapie guitar by our church last September. She coaxed her friends to get guitars for Christmas and most importantly, since she has stuck with it, I have rewarded her with her own. My friend forwarded me a link on FB to a nice Taylor acoustic guitar and now my daughter has the nicest guitar of all her friends. She prefers to finger pick instead of using a pick.

Drew, when the tines get dull, and the dirt is moist and filled with small roots of plants, it does make it hard to till. Sorry your tiller broke. It won't stop raining here in order to get into the garden.

Have a blessed day all.

11F clear sky low 20's for high.
High gusty winds final die down last evening but left one heck of mess branches limbs  lots clean up in spring. :(
Birds squirrels were up and early this morning, and they let me know they wanted breakfast.

Plans...check game cams take the day as it comes.

Enjoy the day all.

Looks like we're going to get an opportunity to clear some more snow Tuesday into Wednesday...prediction here is 8-12 inches

59°F and .19 inches rain.
Not as wet as expected but quite blustery. Forcast has today as major impact of the storm, guess we’ll see.

If it stays nice might get some painting done.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Good Morning, All!

Pretty much the same here, closer to the coast in NH near the Maine border. The snow forecast here varys from 6-12 inches for Tuesday-Wednesday with temps in the twenties, rising into the forties for next weekend.

RNG: interesting idea to input your elevation data into a spreadsheet, calculate volumes, and the corresponding 3d views. I have used an autodesk product called Land Desktop for years, now Civil 3D, for most of my survey work. Our leveling data is manually calculated when we perform level runs: Benchmark elevation plus rod reading equals HI, minus the many rod readings to calculate spot elevations. Repeat for the next HI setup. I use a standard field book five column format for those calcs. Trimble software is used to data process our survey grade gps and conventional survey observations. The data is then imported to C3D and can be used to create a digital terrain surface (dtm). Surfaces can be compared to obtain volumes via a few different machine methods though I rarely have a need as I am usually performing existing conditions type surveys. Your efforts have caused me to think how I would accomplish the same calcs with a spreadsheet, it would take some planning!

No big plans for today. My trickle chargers are reduced to the one bmw charger, so I am moving it between the atv and the bikes to keep them maintained. I am headed next door shortly to move Moms rehab project ahead.

Enjoy your day, Everyone!

RNG, for inspiration, there was a thread by jinman who dug out a lot of his pond using just his tractor. Can you start moving dirt with a boxblade to get a semblance of what your wants and needs are?

Rich, I'd love to see a pic of that champion framed machine if you ever have the time.

I refer to pant's waist and inseam like piston bore to stroke. I myself, since about 12 years ago have gotten "over square". :)

Farmer, hope you don't miss those veggies that cause you problems. Did you even like them in the first place? I was going to say we are going to take our daughter for a series of 6 hours tests conducted by a psychologist. One a month for the next few months. These are to further diagnose her, and hopefully to offer us some suggestions on how to deal with some of her stuff.

Time for church.

Take care all.

"I'm having trouble finding time to keep up. A new phenomena, falling behind, not getting to the last post in order to post myself, then not getting to come back to the party for a day and finding myself behind again."- Kyle

I spend probably more on-air time here than most nowadays and I too find it difficult to keep things straight here.

Kyle- I truly hope that the psych testing provides greater insight into your daughter’s cognitive functioning and hopefully develop new approaches to address her behaviors. I also hope that your daughter tolerates the testing and the tester and that she finds new ways to expand her range of responses.

A sunny beautiful NE Winter day. The pairs of Red Bellied, Hairy, and Downy woodpeckers are quite active at the suet feeder. Much to the displeasure of the blue jays, red breasted and slate backed nuthatches, and the tufted titmice.

I could, but I wanted to get a sense of how much dirt would need to be moved to make the building and surrounding parking pad. There are steep fines in this county for moving in excess of 100 cu. yd. of material without a grading permit, and there is evidence to suggest that inspectors are using satellite imagery to locate and charge violators. It's one of the biggest enforcement tools they have to use against rogue marijuana grows, and brings in hundreds of thousands in fines every year. I'm probably in the 30 cu. yd. range for the pad, but I'll also be terracing the top of the hill for a 30,000 gallon water tank, and the "driveway" to reduce its gradient. More measurements are in my future.

Dave, thank you for pointing me to software that is designed to handle elevation data. I'm using Apple's Numbers program because that's what I have already. I've looked at an open source graphics package that offers more control of 3D plots, but I'm getting lazy in my old age about learning new tricks and I'm hesitant to invest the time to learn a new software package. A quick glance at the Autodesk website reveals a multi-thousand dollar price tag on a C3D subscription, and I don't even have a Windoze machine to run it on anyway. But maybe there's an Open Source civil engineering package out there somewhere?
