I have a Auto whole home generator. It's a Briggs and Stratton 12kw. It will run our whole house with no problems. Installed in 2005. No problems with engine or generator. My problems have been with charging and battery and starter. Replaced starter and most of problems went away. But while I was at it added a Battery Minder, maintainer/charger. Removed battery from enclosure and put in it's own battery box. Use a full size 24 car battery. The battery that is inside enclosure needs to be a AGM so it does not rust out enclosure. They cost a lot more than a standard maintenance free car battery. We get temperatures well below 0°. So I have heaters for engine oil and battery.
My ATS is a Cutler Hammer 200 amp. Had only 2 problems with it. A wire came off a relay that made generator not do a 20 minute run each week. Created a fault light on monitor. Took longer to get cover off ATS than to find and repair the wire.
Another problem that I have had is one leg of the 220 was low voltage. But Generator needs both legs low to switch on. I now have a voltage monitor to check voltage on both legs of 220. Have a 200 amp disconnect/circuit breaker between meter and ATS so I can force ATS into running on Generator.
I would hope that they have ATS that will monitor both legs of the 220 and switch the ATS to generator. RV's can have this on 50 amp. Should not be a problem to have it on a whole house system.
When I bought mine the only whole house system available in my area was Generac and B&S. There a several other manufactures today.
My generator can run on either NG or Propane. I use NG because that's what I have. The generator only puts out 11kw on NG. But it's enough for my house. The only thing that will not run on it is full size range oven.

I am thinking of adding a battery maintainer on my Generac. What brand of maintainer did you buy?

Playing cleanup in my garage tool room. Actually discovered the work surface of my primary work bench - exciting. I definitely need more discipline putting things away.

Lol - that sounds very familiar. I'm a little embarrassed of mine, it's raining this morning, so I may have a clean up after I've caught up on TBN. :ashamed:

Making progress with my piles? Another bench top discovered. Can't believe I let it get this bad.

Now I'm blushing bright red - I'm still reading good morning and you've gone and cleared another one ! I have a second small table in the tractor shed that hasn't seen the light of day since the shed was built - 4 years ago :ashamed: :ashamed: :ashamed:

The strange thing is, the only tools I can find immediately without thinking are those that I leave on that table.

Good morning all, 57 going to 86 wit patchy fog then sunny. Need to get some petrol for the lawn tractor and cut the grass today. Hope to get it done before it gets to hot. Need to get more done on the garage so that when the mill comes I will have a place for it. It will be a couple weeks or so before the lathe comes.

Eric, sounds like cleaning up the table will mess up your system. :)

Prayers for all in need. Ed

Poured first cup of coffee. 63° with mostly cloudy skies. Heading to 85° with scattered thunderstorms. Both fields have been cut. Not much planned for today. Neighbors that did leveling and other projects for are having a outdoor Wedding Reception in their backyard for youngest son and wife. Not a good weather report. 60% chance of thunder storms all day. They do have a large tent and barn has been cleaned out. Wife and I will be resting for the event.

Eric, I cleaned the 4 benches I have between shop and barn over the winter. Nice to have a clean place to do projects. Hardest part is remembering that last project is not done until bench is clean again. :confused3: :mur:

Prayers for all those in need.

Good Morning All.

Good morning! 74˚ heading to 90 with a chance of a shower this afternoon. I need to list a few pieces of furniture in the neighborhood "book" that just don't fit in. It's like a private craig's list that only your neighbors get to look at in the community center. The garage here has some really nice cabinets installed. The problem is my tools are in boxes on the garage floor and there is too much to do to stop to organize, but I must force my self to get organized like David. My wife is running circles around me on unpacking her 30 boxes and only has 5 more to unpack. I'm thinking of retrieving my racing bike and start putting on the miles now that there is a wide paved road to drive on. There is even a bicycle club I could join once I increase my endurance to mostlygas's.

Drew, sounds like a fun party you are hosting this morning instead of an agriculture labor day, way to go! You must be related to Tom Sawyer, I would even want to join in the fun.

Good afternoon. I've finally caught up on this thread after several days of not touching a laptop and even managed a bit of bench cleaning in between.

Lenny, not sure if anywhere could match the views you had with your old house but that sounds like a great move. Wonder if in years to come your granddaughter will remember that spiral slide you built for her ?

Ed, the PM-1030 v looks a good size, hope you have lots of fun with it.

Kyle, I'm sure you will be an excellent teacher. If you can record the lessons with a camera, count me in with a few others on here for the remote learning class.

Ron, are you saying the best time to clean benches is winter ? I now have almost a whole square foot of free space, so perhaps I should wait a few months before more tidying ...

Could do with a bit of help with my wife's ride on mower. She set off to cut the grass and after a couple of minutes, out billowed a huge plume of white smoke from the exhaust. Oil level is fine. What do you reckon, head gasket ? The engine is a 22Hp B&S Intek 7220 v twin. Any tips gratefully received, I'm not familiar with the internals of these.

I hadn't been rushing to repair it as at the moment she is not doing much at all with her left arm, following a moments lack of attention while trimming the edge off a flan case. Knife went through both pastry and her upturned finger tip, leaving a deep cut that will not tolerate any movement without opening up again. I've been having to help her dress, undress and shower. Although she is much better today, I am more than happy to keep up with this sort of TLC for as long as it takes - especially now our guests have left ;)

Up early waking the chickens I guess, 61 high of 86 today.

Yeah, I beat the chickens getting up this morning myself. A bit before 4 a.m., it was already 80 degrees going for a high today of 96. So I got out the EGO lawnmower and had the lawn mowed before 5:30 a.m. And even though the grass was dry, and we had a slight southerly breeze, I was wringing wet with sweat before I finished mowing.

RNG, Irv and others. Here is a picture of my ATS and other boxes.
Meter is in middle . Power goes from there to 200 amp circuit breaker on right. Power is run through cable at bottom of picture to ATS box on left. Main circuit breaker box for house is inside house behind ATS box. On top of ATS box is the digital meter that has a switch to turn off meter or read both legs of 220. I use this to tell when power from meter is back to normal. Then I can turn circuit breaker back on. Red light on left side top of ATS box is LED status of generator. Inside of house I have 2 Cyber Power surge protector/battery backup for TV and computer. Each on different legs of 220. They will start beeping when there is high or low voltage into house. These are the things that burn up fridges and other appliances. I would like to have this monitored electronically and have switch to generator turned on. I had this on my motorhome. But have not found one big enough for 200 amps.
I also have a WiFi app that monitors watts used. But not voltage.

So I got out the EGO lawnmower and had the lawn mowed before 5:30 a.m.

That is the nice thing about the EGO - you can mow before sunrise without waking your neighbors (for those with neighbors). I'm waiting for my wife to wake up so she can mow the yard with the EGO while I trim.

If you do not have time to get it cleared now. You could get started on it this winter. Then learning process starts. Project not done until bench is cleaned. :D
