RNG- Is there a mandatory mudslide evacuation order out your way due to the weather system arriving today?

PennState University (my alma mater) did a couple of tractor rollover studies. They are on video. I watched them. They were pretty graphic. I am a much more cautious operator; especially considering the slope around here.

Tractor's fuel tank is topped off. Woodpile is covered. Firewood is in the house. I am ready for that 4" of predicted snow

I don't think I'll ever run out of trees, but I did get close to "E" on my energy gauge yesterday. But I did finish this tree and one smaller one, cutting, splitting and stacking. I incorporated two new uses of my grapple that saved a lot of my energy.

Hope you have plenty of wood for this upcoming weather!

Don and Ed, I found a new diet, it’s the Ellen diet. Since we got together 10 days ago, I lost 7 lbs and she 9. I think it’s the long walks and better eating. Especially dessert.

The weather is going to heck in a handbasket, rain and wind to snow. I hope we get out of here for Carolina ahead of the snow tomorrow.

Guys, prayers all around, you all have been a Godsend since Lynn passed.

UMM HUM, I called out the loss of hunger in your forecast a week ago.... :) Glad your happy bro.

63°F and .93 inches rain.

Took wife to Dr yesterday for pain in area of her good hip. X-rays confirmed: she’s wearing out. Dr explained how it could easily be trauma from her auto accident back in 98. Either a result of minor damage to joint itself or more likely a result of stresses from the partial hip replacement on the other side. Anti inflammatory prescription for now and she decided on a new shoe lift.
Then to town and got the new shingle shot (Shingrix). Have to get 2nd in 2-6 months.

Prayers for those in need.

Be safe
Have a great day

Thanks Jay
We truly believe she is even here today as a result of the prayers back when she had her accident. Not to repeat myself, but “Raggity Ann” as she’s been known to call herself, spent 5 months in the hospital. That will be 20 years ago come Nov. This is just a new variant of her pain and like always she’ll adapt. I’m just frustrated I can do anything to take it away.

I truly hope and pray that someday Raggity Ann will become a pain free Ann.

Not that I've heard. Maybe to the south and east in the burn scars east of Oroville and Cherokee, but that would have been all over the local disaster and emergency Facebook groups and it's not. If there are evacuations anywhere, it'll be in the Santa Barbara/Ventura areas. According to this map, they're really gonna get walloped over the next few days. According to this article, there are evacuations in place for that area. It's not a lot of rain, at least by Texas standards, but the mountains funnel the water into steep ravines where people have built houses. Those are the areas below the burn scars, and that's where they're trying to get people to leave.

Yea, I was reading all the ways tractors can kill you. One thing I'll have to do is get a seatbelt for the tractor. Other thing I'll have to do is rearrange the rear wheels. Right now, its a nice, compact 146cm, and looks like flipping things around, it can widen out to 192cm. Anyway, I'm not even going to try going up the hill until the snow is gone and its dried up a bit here. There is a pile of dirt near the house that needs to get moved, no hills in the way there. Jozef is making a combo 3pt/FEL bale spear/pallet fork attachment, included in the price of sale, but not made yet. I think I'll see if any neighbors have a 3pt bale spear, so I can bring an entire bale over for the goats next to the house.

There is a warning on the roll bars about flipping. Only thing I can understand is the "!". I've got a couple of friends who know Japanese. If they have time to take from their theology studies and computer programming respectively, maybe they can tell me the gist of some of these warning labels on the tractor.

Assuming the roll bar is original to this tractor, there is a label with presumably the model of the tractor:

Andrew- Nice looking tractor. I like the "functional" look.

I would advise getting a seatbelt installed.

It's a good idea to get in the habit of always going in reverse when first firing up the tractor a moving it after warmup due to the "torque flip" when those large rear tires are frozen to the ground surface.

Good luck.

RNG- Thanks for the information. Lots of rain flowing through narrow ravines is rarely a "good thing."

5" of spring time has fallen already, and this is just an advisory, the storm warning starts in 3 hrs until tomorrow night.

Came home early, that was fun.
So im working in my office at home, i hear a crash. I look out the window, i see the mail truck, and the mail lady walking back to it. She friggin dropped my amazon package on my concrete porch. Its a friggin camera inside the package...

The one delivered sunday had the tape ripped from the box, i think she threw it from the vehicle, since my vehicle wasnt parked in the way...

That is one thing I didn't hear about. I'll keep it in mind, but hopefully by next winter I'll have a concrete parking spot for it, or at least packed down gravel.

On Thursday I'm going to town, and will get from the friend who breaks cars* a lap belt to install.

*The British use this term to mean disassembling cars and later selling the parts. I guess in American English there isn't such a term, since we have enough land to have pull-a-parts where the car sits till you come get the part! ;-)

I don't understand Japanese, either, but I bet is says something about always making sure the rollbar is up, always wearing a seatbelt, and not doing any of the five other things that can cause the tractor to roll or tip over.:D

After the rollbar and seatbelt, the biggest safety strategy you can adopt is to do things slowly so that you have time to correct if you feel something is not right.

Same thing if you're pulling something with a chain, even if you hitch it to the tractor below the rear axle. The tractor can still walk around the axle and flip. Very bad idea to get a running start on a loose chain and try to jerk something loose, too. Absolutely no time to react if something goes bad in that split second after the chain goes taught.

So if trying to pull something that might not "give", like say a stump, better to hook up to the front? Going outside to take a look at the front actually...
