Ed- Your and your family's real hardships made you as a family group and you as individual family members stronger. There were/are/will be families like yours who are not so lucky for a variety of reasons. If really hard times ever return to this country a lot of people will be at a serious loss as to how to survive especially if the currency became worthless. There will always be those who survive and those who do not..... money or not.

Hyundai dealer FINALLY got back with a price on tucson SE. $9 less than further away dealer.

Subaru Forester 2.5i with alloy wheels about $100 less, the premium with heat seat is $2000 more. Tucson has tinted windows, no heated seats.
2k over the life of the payments doesn't amount to much I love my heated seats the Subaru also should have the heated mirrors and front and rear window defrosters in that package!

cold and rainy out, thankfully watering the carrots and onions I planted today.
Before that I did quite a bit of repotting inside, and tomorrow will move the peppers over to bigger pots.
Interestingly the repotting allegedly makes the tomatoes and peppers stronger. I just know they'll never make another month in the little
spaces they are in now. It's easy and satisfying work.

Still plugging away at finishing walkways in garden, ran out of landscaping staples. First butterfly I've seen so far and first strawberry flower
Solar panel battery charging kit came this afternoon, going to check that out after dinner. I ordered the complete 100W kit, with all the fasteners and connectors.
I also got in the surge arrestor Farmer suggested and glad I kept an extra ground rod as it requires it to be installed not near the power supply but at least 50 feet away.
Clearly the aim is diverting the surge far away from the power transformer.

Three days later the electric fence is clicking away normally on the battery, wonder what its lifespan is. Would be nice if I didn't have to take it out and manually charge but
I think an occasional charge on the smart charger will do the battery good. I just sized the solar panel for what would fit on the roof. Now to pick which side, or even to swivel little shed a bit.
If I were aiming a satellite dish I would know always to aim for the equator. I suppose the same logic prevails for getting the best sun?

Don, I looked that site over and the products in their foil pouches. Looks like astronaut food and I bet it has a price to match.
But thank you for the idea. I'm trying evolution prior to revolution.

It's really amazing that the diet industry is a multibillion dollar industry. Primarily due to overeating.
Portion control and food selection in the grocery store to me is key. Now trying to eat salmon once a week.
Having some tonight cold crumbled over a salad with blue cheese dressing.
Which reminds me, as my stomach grumbled.

I just heard a dinner bell, somewhere...

My wife likes the heated seats in our Ford Escape, but I've never turned on the heat in my seat, probably never will. When I saw that the car had that feature, I thought that was the silliest thing Ford ever did. But with my record for predicting, apparently I was wrong again. Of course I do like the heated mirrors and front and rear window defrosters.

Youngest daughter saved up and put a large down payment on 2018 Chevrolet Equinox LT, financing the balance. She really likes it, got the heated seats, lots of goodies. Some of the stuff she wanted was in higher trim level package, so she decided to forego them. She had pre approved loan, large down payment and the finance guy went after her for lots of extended stuff.. was going hard sell on the extended warranty, trying to scare her, etc. She calmly told him no, she didn't trust anyone to touch her car. She plans on doing the normal maintenance and if something major needs attention during warranty, she will get it done, if after warranty, she will decide if she wants to tackle it or go to dealer or indendent shop. She thought she had been in the finance managers office 25-30 minutes, it was nearly an hour. I was there in case she wanted my weigh in (I had already told her about extended warranty pressure).

Some folks want the extended warranty, I am not one of them.

Dealer says they add $200 to supplier pricing so thin margins unless they sell a bunch of other items. She is plans on keeping it a long time, but takes good care of her car so I don't expect big issues..

I do like heated seats, especially if the seat covering is anything but cloth.

Most of those extended warranties have exemptions for a lot of the major things that can go wrong. You have a problem, call the warranty company expecting them to take care of it, only to get "oh, we're sorry, that doesn't qualify for coverage". Consumer Reports will sell you a write up on any car you want, and it includes the dealer cost for the car with the option packages priced separately. If you show it to a dealer and they try to say it's not accurate, you can bet they are lying to you about a lot of other things as well. Last car I bought new I was right up front and we started the dickering at $200 over the CR price. Ended up at $600, but I felt that was fair and it saved a lot of screwing around.

I’ve had heated seats for around twenty years, they are great on a bad back.

I use the heated seat in our Subaru Forester about 10 times a year. I usually have to put it on low after a few miles. I never use the Sun roof and did not want one but I also wanted the very needed tinted windows and none came without the sunroof. I ended up putting a reflective shield up there to keep the roof cooler. I added hard mud flaps and side molding. I wanted wheel moldings that they said were available but then after I bought found out they stopped making them for the Forester.

Tractor Supply is great fun now. peep peep peep peep peep
Who wouldn't want to go back and look at the little chicks and ducks in the middle of the store?
Hawk's favorite breakfast.

Me. Me. Me. Me. I hate tractor supply and rural king this time of the year. All I see and hear is bio security breaches. Do my best to make sure I atleast change shoes after coming home. Most of the time I change clothes.

.

I think the price is a good incentive to stick to it for 5 days. Just subtract the cost of food for 5 days and it does not seem too bad. The main reason I'm trying it is that the studies (in this nobel prize nominated diet) show a significant increase in stem cells in the bloodstream after the 5 days. The cardiologist that explained the benefits also tried it and lost 25 pounds. He said it allows for "cheating" with an apple, cucumber or celery if you start feeling faint, but he did it while working. They do recommend no long strenuous activity during the 5 days.

I figured if a sunroof ain’t leaking, don’t open it and tempt fate! But the heated seats are on 24/7/365 if I’m in the truck, if it’s really hot I turn it on low, but it’s like magic on sciatica.

We like those heated seats. They really help. The heated steering wheel was a "stretch," but the more we thought about it the more heat on those arthritic digits grabbing the steering wheel can not hurt. The next time if we do buy another vehicle in the future; we will probably be just passengers  going on a "ride."

I liked the heated seat in the Legacy we had. Wife is always to hot and I am to cold so I just turn on my heated seat in winter and we were both happy. Ed

Good evening all. 42F this morning, moderate wind and clear sky. Sky pick up some high cirrus, winds had white caps on the lake and high temp was 64F. Started a change out of router last night, big mistake. 1st level Linksys and internet provider were both clueless . During last night and this morning, spent 4 hours on phone, finally got to second level internet provider support, authenticating was the issue, why 1st level people didn't know that is a good question, could cut time and aggravation to 1/3 of what it was. I was able to finish router setup of wireless devices after getting new router working. Back to regularly scheduled list of jobs :).

We have heated seats in the van, I use them mostly when wife does not turn off and I start driving, then can't figure why seat is so warm:eek:.

Had the first emergency with my wife's 2009 apple computer. Her keynote program would not show the slideshow and she has a presentation to give in the morning. She called the local store (an hour and a half away in Austin) and told them of her problem. They transferred her to California and a tech took control of her computer via internet and fixed it - no charge. Is that support or what!!!!!! Turned out her last download made her program unstable and an update fixed it. Up and going in 30 minutes and 25 of that was downloading the update.

29 right now...might get to the mid-30's today. Obviously, we're looking at a significant snow event this afternoon into tomorrow. Latest predication is 9 to 14 inches of wet snow.

Added: For those of you in the path of this storm, the prediction is for wet heavy snow...that's heart attack snow, so be very careful! If you haven't sprayed PAM or equivalent in your snow blower chutes and auger housing...well, better to do it before the storm!

Good morning all, 34 this morning going to 45 and a 50% chance of rain/snow. So far we have had a sprinkle. Boy has a new Dr coming today, old one was a dud. Hope this one is much better.

Roy, Thanks for the tip, never had a snow blower before so I likely have a lot of things to learn.

Prayers for Rip and all others in need. Ed

Glad they got her fixed up, also glad to hear Apple does that as well. Last time I had a problem on my desktop that a reboot didn’t fix was around a year before moved here, about 7 years I guess, the Microsoft tech did that, it’s strange watching things happen on your screen and you’re not doing it!
