Good morning!!!!

Good Morning! 37F @ 4:00AM. Rain showers early will evolve into a more steady rain for the afternoon. High 44F. Winds SSE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 90%. Rainfall around a quarter of an inch.

Almost an inch and a half of rain yesterday, and plenty of wind. Saw a few more large branches down last night when I went up the hill to get the mail, more firewood for the pile. Less wind today, and less rain, too, but temps still rather chilly. Making a fair dent in the firewood pile the past week or so.

The weather channel folks sure seem to be going nuts over what they're calling a nor'easter. Major flooding, lots of rain/snow, the whole shootin' match. Hope it's another case of exaggeration, and the more mild forecasters prevail.

Riptides most recent post to TBN was February 6th, where he said he was leaving on a road trip. Anybody heard from him since?

Finley's got more artistic talent in her little finger that most of us have in our whole bodies, Kyle. I hope you're keeping her work for when she becomes famous someday.

RS has also gone AWOL. Anybody heard from him?:confused2:

Was reviewing charge card statements yesterday when I noticed that the HughesNet bill was $125 higher last month. When I called them to find out why, I was told it was a service charge to cover the tech visit in December. That was due to poor performance of the Internet connection, and the tech didn't find anything wrong with the equipment. I told the agent at the time that would be the case, that the problem was with their oversold network, and before I paid for a technician visit, I'd switch providers. He agreed to waive the service fee, yet there it was in the charge card statement. I told this to the non-English as a primary language tech person yesterday, who offered a ten dollar discount for a few months for my trouble. I told him to just cancel the service, as I'm not accustomed to being lied to. I was bounced to the "cancellation department" where the gal at first said she couldn't do anything. After I reiterated my desire to cancel, she asked a supervisor to reverse the charge and said it would be applied against future billings. I asked that it instead be issued as a refund, and after another lengthy delay, she was able to do that, too. My local satellite installer told me last month that newer services will soon be available, and to hang on another month to see how well they pan out, so I think it's time for another chat with him to see if it's time to switch again.:muttering:

Also got a good start on income taxes (which is why I was looking at charge card statements). Today I'll take another cut at it, tracking down all those little deductions to help limit Uncle Sam's reach into my pocket.

Also made a little more progress with the electrical install on the old bike, trying to get the new alternator/ignition control integrated with the ancient wiring harness. Hopefully finish that today, and get mufflers and the rest of fuel system back on. The wires on the new system are way too long, and the connectors are bulky and difficult to tuck neatly up under the fuel tank, but before I go cutting things up I want to make sure it's going to work. So there will be wires hanging out all over for the first start up, and then a big trim job after the motor makes music.

Had the Septic tank sucked out yesterday and it was actually wasted money. The combination of no oil, plant based plus the different type of veggie gut flora, we now have made for a pleasant septic tank. No overwhelming smell and very little accumulation on the bottom. We should market our gut microbes. Anybody want to buy some _________.

Oh jeez, Don, now yer tellin' us yer poop don't stink? That mean you use less TP, too, because that forms the majority of the solid waste in septic tanks. No, don't answer that. You've given us Too Much Information already.:laughing::laughing:

Kyle, as everyone else has said, your daughter has a great drawing.

Cold here still. The public water supply pipe going to our house is still frozen. Cold without snow to insulate the ground is the problem. I'm just glad I got the bathroom hooked in to the well last fall as well as the dishwasher and clothes washer and that that pipe hasn't frozen. It is just a minor inconvenience not to have the kitchen sink and go get water from the bathroom.

Speaking of government spending on rural areas, the state owned water company cleaned up the reservoir in our village that had filled in with dirt over the decades and gotten overgrown. Finally someone fabricated a gate for the dam as well, so its filled up, and frozen 8 inches thick. Tried to teach the kids ice skating today. Annoyingly, the girls skates here are normal ice skate blades, but the boys only get hockey blades, which are much less forgiving to stand on. So my daughter was carefully able to skate on her own after an hour, but my older son still can't.

He is standing on his own for the photo, but the moment he moves he loses balance. He was OK though holding on to the chair and skating. Seems like the cold should stay a couple of days, so tomorrow at least we can go again.

But, I will answer. :D

We have gut microbes that now thrive on fiber. Toilet paper is just fiber. The microbes that "escaped" to the septic tank eat the TP as fast and we can feed it to them. Even though we probably feed them twice as much as none-plant-based people.

RNG, are there no alternatives where you are? WISPs? (Wireless Internet Service Providers) How far away are your neighbors, and how far is the nearest point with fiber optic internet? You could possibly set up a WISP in your area.

Thank you all for the complements. I told her she has complements from "all around the world" and she says in her diminutive voice, "OK". Her spectrum is one that doesn't give much sympathy or take kudos. Yet, we still laud her when possible. I've been praying for her recently and the rewards are tremendous.

Prayers for all of you.

that really looks like fun! I didn't have very good balance in the beginning either. 8 inches of ice is marvelous. Though sorry about your frozen water pipe.

Neighbor across the road, trampoline has blown down into their yard. He's out there tying it to a rather small tree, wonder if it will pull the tree out..

Gusts currently near 50mph. Shakes the house.

30°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 50° today. Looks like sunny and near 60° for the weekend.

Fantastic piece of art from your daughter, Kyle. Your pride is definitely justified.

Wife went to the new Tractor Supply store in Carlyle, IL yesterday to pick up the new chicken coop, and came home with 5 chicks as well. We'd talked about getting Buff Orpingtons, but one of the guys at the store talked her into Wyandottes instead, under the premise that they are a little hardier in winter. She couldn't remember whether they are blue laced or silver laced. Guess we'll find out when they feather up. We'll get the coop up this weekend, but the chicks will stay in for the next couple of weeks. Right now, they are in a wire-wrapped dog kennel in the sunroom.

Ontario is a long way to go to get a good deal, don't you think? :)

Funny you should mention that. We've been driving Kias for awhile. Well, my Wife has anyway. She's on her fourth one, and talking about trading it for something smaller and more fuel efficient. She's kind of waffling between the Soul, the Sportage, and the newer Niro. I like my Soul, but would prefer something just slightly larger. I really like the Rondo, but they don't sell that model in the US anymore. They do, however, still sell them in Canada. I've actually thought about seeing if my local dealer can import one, or maybe even fly to Detroit myself and go over and buy one in Windsor.

Not sure how that works with buying a car in Canada and bringing it back across the border. I'm sure there's some manner of fee or tax involved. Has anyone here ever done that?

The wind made it warmer overnight 25*, yesterday was in the high 30's. Today is going to be partly cloudy and a chance of snow showers this afternoon. With the high in the 30's. The wind is blowing pretty good now 15-20 mph.

Don't have any plans for today. I'm sure I'll find something to keep me busy.

Everyone in the path of the storms stay safe.

Thanks, Rick. Good info. I'd found a web page that had an excerpt from a book about top egg breads, and we initially selected based on that. We wanted larger birds that produce fewer eggs (about 200/year) and are not aggressive. That page also recommended a couple of books on raising chickens, which The Wife ordered from Amazon. As with most things she does, she's already diving right in, and I expect she'll be a veritable fount of chicken knowledge in no time.

Good morning everyone.

The wind woke me up ~3:00AM and it was snowing. It's still snowing now. ~5" of heavy, sticky snow has fallen so far. Temperature is hovering ~32コF. I may not see any rain or it may have fallen earlier this AM with this storm. I have water stored in the event we lose power. Wind has calmed down some, but should intensify when the low pressure energy over PA completely transfers to a developing coastal off the DelMar(?) coast low which will bomb as it tracks towards the 40N/70W benchmark. I have now clue as to how much snow will fall with this storm. Wind is picking up and the snow is intensifying.

Freedomlives- Awesome pictures of your family. Thank you for sharing.

Kyle- I hate labels like "autistic" which can becomes "one's destiny" in life. It is apparent that your daughter will create her own destiny; not limited by a label. Thanks for sharing.

My + thoughts, prayers, and wishes for all.

It should be an interesting day for a few of us.

Have a good one everyone.

Roads were passable on the way to PT. But not for a Subaru. Did not get a picture of it stuck on side of road. Maybe I got threw because it had already cut a path until it got stuck.

For a while some sleet was mixing in with the snow. Winds are increasing, but the snow is really sticking to my pet dogwood. The temperature is hovering ~ 32F. My anemometer is frozen. The tarp blew off the rider mower. I have no clue where it is yet.
