the best laid plans of mice and men, or in my case, the big L and R I put on the
small Massey's rear arms, but in painting my new balls I went too far and no more indicators.
So of course I put them on backwards the first time. I was confused by then, went to the other Massey thinking
that would give me a clue, these arms have double bends in them. Of course the larger Massey from India not Japan comes
with totally straight lower arms. So I switched them around and all went back together.

Then I vacuumed the car and truck and am off with the Outback for its first annual service. Polishing the inner dome lights I'm sure, adjusting the tension
in the hood insulation and massaging the wiper blades. For the highly discounted price of you have to be kidding.
I always tell them, just an oil change and anything absolutely mandatory. They already check a bunch of stuff if for no other reason they are looking
for work. Frankly the Subaru folks seem to have a refreshingly honest approach to things. No pacs on new cars, no pressure from F&I. Free carwash.
Kindle is charged and off to the big city.

Don, try rewarding Whipper at each stage; treat for coming when called, treat for sitting when asked, and treat for when the collar is put on or taken off. You can eventually change over the treats to affection.

That might work. Now no treats are involved.

Do not make the mistake of doing like my BIL did and say that when the boy is 18 he can do what he likes. Keep a tight reign on him till he moves out. It will give him a reason to forced responsibility on himself to become productive to live on his own.

I'm no dog trainer, that's certain. But, my Wife is, and I've heard her give that advice plenty of times over the years. All dogs are different, and respond different to various rewards. Sometimes it's just trial and error until you find something that truly has their attention, and makes them want to please you to get it.

As for the stepson, we haven't given up on him. He's complained (a lot!) about his life being so restricted, so we lifted his curfew when he got out of high school. The hope was that he'd be more responsive to other suggestions and opportunities regarding being a responsible adult. Unfortunately, that approach doesn't appear to be working with him. May have to rethink the loosened reign theory.

... and thanks for the personal message, Don.

Don, I mow the weeds down simply for the fire hazard they present. Or so I thought. Is this wrong?

No, it is right. I keep the yard and extend yard mowed so we can stop a grass fire there. I'm talking about my other acres. With rock all along the bottom sides of the house and a metal roof and a pool with 17,000 gallons I feel comfortable.

Buckeye, except for the extra drive, that’s great news! Take it easy and don’t push it while you heal up.

Get the good ones. Milk Bone. That’s how Betty got her to come to her.

Milkbone makes a soft bone shaped treat my dogs love. Easy to cut into 4 or more pieces so you get multiple rewards without filling her up. If not food motivated might have to find out what does, maybe a toy. Strangely, when I had Kekoa in class he would train for treats at home all week, but was indifferent to them at class. The training group sold some homemade treats which the teachers used. One day we were getting extra attention after class and of course Kekoa maintained his non food motivation, but performed as she wanted. Once done I noticed the instructor immediately picked up the special, but refused treats off the grown.
Not that you you have any but a hotdog sliced into quarters and then about 1/2 inch and then dried (oven) make a good treat.
Perhaps add in a sit, down, shake and not always end with the collar so she doesn’t figure out that is your primary goal.

Good evening all. 41F this morning clear, calm wind. Wind remained light, sky clear and high temp of 65F. Got some chainsawing done, found two more limbs in the walnut tree to drop, and got all my wood sawed to length. Have some splitting to do. Wife announced we had errands in city, scored some led multi-colored icicle lights and more trimmer string. After nap made to the driving range to knock the rust off.

PJ good luck with your stepson, never a easy thing when you have a late start.

Good morning, it's great to wake up and read from Buckeyefarmer that he escaped hospital, except then he gets me worried with
Randy, did you feel the earthquake?
Oh no I think, he must be feeling very unsteady on his feet and now he's halucinating too? What a relief when Google tells me the quake was real, with a 4.1 radiating out from Delaware :)
Buckeye, hope you enjoy a quiet and uneventful day at home !
