Good morning, up before our guests and checking the forecast before deciding where to go today. Got a fright when I saw what is to come this afternoon, especially at 5pm.

   / Good morning!!!! #47,643
Drinking first cup of coffee. 68° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 89° with chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Got .4" of rain yesterday evening. Lawn has been cut. Garden Pond is turning green. Need to get UV light installed. Then back inside to get out of the heat and humidity.
Eric, looks like you are missing temperatures for 2 hours. No matter what weather you have 16° C (61° F) would be welcome at my place.
Good Morning All.

71 high of 90 later and another super humid day with slow moving thunderstorms. Got blasted yesterday afternoon street flooded out where we were working and the lightening was striking everywhere. Hopefully get finished today.

Eric Y2K struck later for you than the rest of us. Perhaps you are about to enter the twilight zone

   / Good morning!!!! #47,645
71 with hot humid 88 later.

Got the mowing finished yesterday...around some food plots, along some trails, and along the highway ditch.

Rained a bit last night so I may try some tilling today.

   / Good morning!!!! #47,646
73.1F and cloudy @ 06:30 ... high of 91F predicted for today along with the possibility of some thunderstorms which would be welcome.

Got hair cut yesterday.

Picked up a couple of tubes of Mobil 1 grease @ Autozone with my $20 credit and ran out to Akron Tractor and picked up the last two o-rings for the front axle.

Got a little more lawn mowed as well.

Looks like the spambots are totally out of control ...

Good morning all. 70 this am going to 88 with a 70% chance of thunderstorms this pm. Up late this morning, was almost 6:00, so much to do that it is hard to know what I will do first. Trimmed the top, bottom and inside of an umbrella tree yesterday. Got all of the trimming done but will have to pick up the dead sticks from inside today. ( it is a weeping cherry pruned to look like an umbrella) Wife wants the dining room table set up today, It was bought in 1906 or 7 by my grandfather as he set up housekeeping with his new bride. The buffet that was bought in the early 1830's is next, it belonged to my 3 great grandfather and was bought for the plantation house. They both need cleaning up a bit as they have been in storage for a good while.

Don wish I had seen that before I got the rice steamer I just bought. We make rice, rice and lentils, steam veggies and our morning oatmeal. I make it with less water and a little quinoa, it comes out similar to baked oatmeal and we put blended fruit over it.

David Hope your repair goes well, do parts cost more there?

Eric, Don't feel bad, the national weather service often does not know of out city.

I need to talk to the Dr about moms meds, It would be very nice if we could fix this.

Have a great day everyone. Ed

overnight showers done, but clear out now and will be for several days. Then a wet period seems to settle in this weekend and into next week.
Errands to run this morning, then I am out to hoe/weed my sunflowers. Going to take it slow and easy

Ron, you will be pleased to know I followed your advice and put in a 50 amp receptacle down at the barn, since I was changing out the 100amp panel there to 200; the old one was a rusted mess and full of spiders. Wasn't much more work to put a second 30amp 120v receptacle on same pole.
So, all motorhomes and rv's are now welcome to visit, and I have running water there too!

Warm here again, going into the upper 80's. Had a good day yesterday, finished up a electrical project at the rental, but then had to put down our old goat in the evening. Fred was 16, and pretty crippled up, he had gotten to the point that he could not get around at all. Not getting a replacement.

Going to put a new lock set on the rental. After that, probably not much outside. Too hot.

Have a good one!

Replaced the ignition coils in the scag. Good spark, started right up.
Plugged a plug wire and it died :( checked the spark on bad side, good and strong.
Hmmmm, maybe the valves got out of adjustment?
Pulled valve cover:

Pushrods not exactly working as designed.
Top one is significantly bent. Ordered 2 new and gaskets. Valves appear to respond to pressure on springs, cam rotates. Nothing seems frozen and no metal chunks when I changed the oil. Hoping the rockers just loosened causing the damage. Read that Kawasaki engines will do that.

So will the top of the line Briggs and Stratton, they used steel on the intake and aluminum on the exhaust, any time I have a miss on one, I look for a bent pushrod. Not happened but a couple of times on the many I've owned, but always the exhaust. I replace them with steel. Funny, never had one of the cheaper Briggs engines bend a pushrod.

Hot and sticky is back, upper 80's today, upper 90's tomorrow and Friday.

76 this morning and headed to 93 today.

Might end up being a good day to work inside on the drywall for the bathroom. Otherwise it's going to be a good day for bushhoging. Nothing strenuous outside.

Ended up at the funeral home last night. A 40 year old we know lost a battle with cancer. She only found out she had it in May.

Drew, we haven't been down to the Outer Banks since my mom moved in 2 1/2 years ago, you're close enough! Is next week good?

Yep, I don't think a plug will fix that. Hopefully only pushrods and gaskets.

Good Morning! 65F @ 6:15AM.Abundant sunshine. High 99F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.

Ed and anyone else, there is a good deal on a excellent pressure cooker on Amazon for today only.
Thanks for pointing this out, Don. Mine's on the way. I'd done a little Prime shopping earlier in the day, snagging a so-so deal on some blue jeans, but couldn't find anything else but clothes. Thought it strange, but when I followed your link there were lists for all sorts of things. A Lincoln air powered grease gun I purchased in 2012 was on "sale" for four dollars less than I'd paid then, several OK rated paper shredders (the auto on feature on my $30 Amazon special one doesn't work anymore), and oh so much stuff I had absolutely no use for. And every time I tried to use the search tool, the list of hits contained non-Prime sale merchandise. Needless to say, aside from the deal you found, I was not impressed with Amazon Prime day. But I am looking forward to sharing some recipes for the new cooker.:licking:

Pushrods not exactly working as designed.
Had something similar happen on a Ford Falcon Ranchero many years ago. Pushrod came off the rocker on several valves. Made a heck of a racket and lost a lot of power. Was coming through some hills with a motorcycle in the back, and had to pull over. Hitched a ride home, called a buddy with another truck, and with his help pulled off the rocker cover. Popped the pushrods back into place, put the valve cover back on, and the engine started and ran great. Never did figure out why the pushrod came off the rocker, and sold the truck as it was all pretty much of a wreck!

Don't worry, Eric, they just didn't have an icon for mixed sun/rain/snow!

Started yesterday by welding up the damage done to the front of the drip rails during the roof swap, which involved a lot of grinding to make the weld metal look like the what used to be there. Truth be told, all my welding seems to involve a lot of grinding! :confused2: And while I was there I finished up the roof pillar welding, something I was gonna let the body man do but it sounded like he was just going to weld it and smear body putty on to get the right shape, and now he won't have to mess with the weld. Then I welded up another hole in the driver side floor pan. Not sure why VW put it there, but it was another source of soggy carpets and rust. By then it was warm enough that soapy water felt nice to work with, and I spent most of the rest of the day cleaning the interior for painting. Took both doors off and hung them on the back porch, as that was the only way to really get paint onto the jambs. Also cleaned up the rotating bases for the seats that I'd scavenged from the camper. Those'll get welded in after the first round of paint goes on the interior, as once they're in place the inside of the seat bases will not be accessible and I really want them to be white.

Day before yesterday a new Ez-Up awing was delivered, and I took a few minutes to unpack it and set it up over the van. The instructions kept referring to a partner to set the thing up, but by making lots of trips between the four legs I finally got the thing together and the top on. Really made a difference in how warm it was working inside. It was also pretty easy to move around, but again I had to make a lot of trips to move one let a foot or two at a time. The nice thing was it was really quick to take down, and the wheeled carry bag makes moving the thing to storage easy, too.

Today I have a little masking to do before shooting the primer. So I need to get going before it gets too hot for the paint!

At first I thought you meant what was forecast for 1800. Run. Hide. It's the sun.

   / Good morning!!!! #47,659
Good Morning. 1025, sunny, 86F {HI 101F} with 79% humidity. Forecast high of 92F with 40% chance of thundershowers today, and a low of 74F tonight.

My day got off to an interesting start. Mamma fell in her tub and I had to get her out. Her shoulder and knee are a little sore, but nothing broken. She has a fully handicapped accessible shower, and she insist on using the old garden style tub.

Today is cleaning lady day, so I'm doing my usual pre-cleaning lady cleaning, as well as hitting the high spots in the garden. We had a little shower yesterday. Last two days, in fact. Nice, but only about a 1/4 inch between them.

You guys have a good one,

Larro

My sister gave me back the unused bush bean seeds that I had sent her after doing my own garden. Now my first crop is gone, time to plant another one.
Sure couldn't do this back in PA; here I can grow into October and November. Just a longer growing season but I'm told long enough to get two good crops in.

My tomato plants are gigantic, side arms an inch thick. Bent over almost all the metal supports; need to wire tie them all together today. I came home to all the tomatoes keeled over; must have had some wind here or they just finally keeled over under their own weight. Normal amount of tomatoes, fair amount of bottom rot.

Drew, if you had another planter or two, you can get several plantings in. I picked my 2nd planting of Pink-eyed Purple Hull peas today, and there are a few of the 1st patch with peas and blooms still. But I will cut them under in a few days, to plant my 3rd planting. During the heat of the summer, planting about every 3-4 weeks will insure you don't run out of fresh peas. Later in the fall, it takes longer for them to grow and bloom, so you have to plan for that.

Top-dress {or mix with your water} with Epson Salts to prevent End Bloom Rot. When you do your soil mix next time, add it then.

Today's picking from the 2nd planting of peas. {still have the old patch to go over, and it has messed around and got hot}

RNG you will love the pressure cooker. Just throw the ingredients in and turn on and go do something else. All things are done in 30 minutes or less, most less than 20.

Another 100˚ day and windy. I was shocked to see algae in the bottom of my pool. I pride myself is crystal clear clean water and tonight is water volleyball night. However upon closer examination the spots on the bottom turned out to be just sand. We do live on a dry sand hill and all the wind we have been having the last few days has sand everywhere. Relief! Robot is cleaning it up now with it's sand collection bag.
