Good morning! 68˚ cloudy. Fields are still soaked so no tractor work today. Right before the last two rains my neighbor cut his hay - it is still in the field un-bailed. My other neighbor has just increase the county population by one. I only had to make one detour because of a flooded barricaded road on my way to town yesterday.

Good Morning! 50F @ 6:00AM. Cloudy with occasional rain showers. Thunder possible. High 63F. Winds SSE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 50%.

Ed, many years ago I had to move from San Jose to Livermore (both in California) due to a job change. The new company I was to work for paid for the move, and a man-in-a-van showed up one Saturday morning to pack and load my stuff. By noon everything except the garage was wrapped, boxed, and put into the van. Last to go was the garage, where I kept a workbench and, even way back in the early '80s, boxes and boxes of motorcycle and car parts. Apparently my boxes weren't good enough for the mover, because he removed and wrapped every part before putting them in regulation boxes. Same with my tools and various other bits that were stored out there. This went on the rest of the day, until finally at around 6 PM he announced that he was done. It had taken twice as long to pack the garage as it had the whole rest of the house! I've since moved my shop four more times, and each time I swear the amount of stuff has doubled. I mention this to say that I don't envy you your present task, but I surely sympathize with what you're doing. :grumpy:

Rain showers yesterday kept me inside most of the time, taking care of paperwork and rearranging things in the garage to make room for a stream of parts that will come off the new van. That stream started with engine mounts, rock rails, spare tire hangers, and seats, which were already stacked up on the floor of the van. And a set of wheels, complete with worn out tires, that I had to make room for. Before I did, I made some measurements on the wheels to make sure they'd actually fit (the came off an Audi) and it looks like they will. But I'll have to make up new covers for the center holes where the axle stubs come through, or modify the ones that they came with. Also ran a couple of load tests on the new battery for the winter bike (it passed), then found that the mounting bracket for it wasn't big enough and will need some alterations. I remember shortening it in the past, and apparently I went a little over board on the amount. :duh: I think I see a bit of welding and grinding on the menu for today. And since the showers are supposed to continue, it looks like I'll get a little housekeeping done as well.

54F with light drizzle, which it looks like we'll have most of the day.

Worked a little more on widening/flattening the path behind the pole barn yesterday ... probably got it in good enough shape to move the brush down it to the bottom of the property.

Spent the afternoon mowing the front lawns ... got those done. But didn't get the blades changed before I did it. Will need to do that this coming week.

Last evening I checked the two bluebird houses ... the one has been occupied by house sparrows ever since I put it up. The other one has had bluebirds in it in prior years but had four juvenile house sparrows in it last night. Gassed them with starting fluid and threw a plastic bag over the nest box. Then pulled the box off the pole after 5 minutes and dumped the contents in one of the compost piles and brought the box done to the house for cleaning.

The other house had an adult bird in it with around five or six eggs. The adult bird got away before I could get it but I cleaned out the box and removed the nest and eggs. Couldn't get the box off the pole to bring it down to the house for cleaning so I just left it open for the time being.

Need to see if I can locate a fuel pump for the Simplicity locally this morning. If so I'll get that replaced today.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend.

I have a bluebird house in my front yard. Over the years, other birds have pecked the entry hole larger than it came. We have had several bluebird families in it, but I'm not sure of the success rate because we have many non poisonous snakes that I know climb the trees.

This is county fair week (previously mentioned) and along with the fair, they have a small parade in town. Our church fixes up a parade float that advertises our vacation Bible School. This year's theme, "Deep Water" :) They will teach about many of the instances of water in the Bible.

51 this morning and headed to 71 today.

Well yesterday was exciting. First off preschool registration should not be 1 1/2 hours of paperwork. Of course son didn't have a clue who in the he11 these people were and wouldn't cooperate with them. Kept trying to make him do all these test to see if he qualifies. He11 the boy is already in because he's a transfer from an earlier age program. I've told them before not to expect much from him the first time they meet him as he has to know you. And I told them yesterday he was a transfer. Turns out I have a cousin (down the line) that works there. She finally got everyone to leave him alone and was able to calm him down so I could continue with the paperwork.

Then off to get metal. I just pulled up and loaded it. Got home dropped trailer then headed to pickup wife from school. Then an hours drive to get a hay rake. New Holland Procart 1022. Then a 1 hour and 45 minutes drive back home. Wife gets home and says. The metal color is wrong color. What I ordered red! They ordered me rustic red. It's prefaded red. She doesn't like. So I'm headed back today and she's going too. Then see what else I can find to do as the metal was my plan.

I have had pretty good luck with Amazon for the little vacuum pumps. I bought a kohler 25 hp pump, from kohler, for only $9. That engine had a similar Briggs pump on it, but it runs better with the new one.

Good morning all. 62F this morning with severe clear and calm wind. 84F is the expected high with moderate winds. Couple projects @ stepdaughter's house, boat prep for granddaughter's visit next month, maintenance checks on vehicles, bike ride, and yard string trimming all candidates for today's TMA.

Drew will be dodging the rain this week during bike rides, these roads get real slick when wet

Buppies thanks for the weather update, will be riding 7 days straight along New Madrid Fault.

Don glad you keeping us updated on brown recluse, moved any wolf spiders nearby yet? SWMBO was never happy with wolf spiders in SIL bathroom, even though she knew why they were not removed  :confused2:

Have a great day

Good Morning. 1130, mostly cloudy, 83F with 69% humidity. Forecast high of 86F with 20% chance of rain today, and a low of 62F tonight. We got a couple inches yesterday. Great for the garden, but I had more kiddie pools of soil mix than I had empty pools to cover them with, so a lot of my Darro Dirt is soupy this morning. I will add peat moss. That will dry up anything.

Sam, now I know where my rain has been going. I've had rain 3 of the last 20 days:D Have fun with the fish. My go to trail food these days is roasted soybeans {Edamame}. It is also my go to sitting at my desk food.

MG, don't let that fault get to moving while you over there.

Drew, your garden is looking good. You need to go brag in http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/rural-living/310948-how-does-your-garden-grow-115.html My newest happening in the garden is blooms on the sweet pumpkins.

What a fun day. Six hours of hard work putting the Cub Cadet back together, fenders on and off twice, seems someone put them on backwards which we could only tell when the tires were mounted, or could not be mounted because they didn't clear. Thinking I'm going to have to call RNG and learn how to do body work, I kept looking at the fender and saying, this just doesn't look right. Remember it's been three years and lots of stuff happening since I took it apart.
But with the fenders on the right way, everything got mounted, the gas tank and new lines on, hot spark and no go. No fuel. Fuel to carb but then nothing. Might be buying a 45 dollar carb. But it started on a little ether, so we know it wants to.
Will try again tomorrow but with the exception of the hood and the dash, it's ready to go. Once it starts...
Most importantly just good fun to spend time with my close friend who I see so little of any more. He has an older JD tractor and a lot of Gravely
equipment. We work well together and as all good friends do, ignore the other's bad habits and enjoy the good.

pretty muggy out, a night for mosquitoes...

headed in to town to a Mexican restaurant for dinner. They make great fajitas with fresh ingredients and it comes out sizzling.
But more to my interest, I'm driving my new to me car for the first time.
I'm not sure my friend who drove it nine hours down here yesterday ever got on it enough to hear the supercharger whine.
We might have to try that once...;)
2 old farts out of fun.

Well the dead cherry tree is down, on the burn pile and the stump is ground out. Got about 10,000 pissed off red/black carpenter ants running around trying to find their home I ground up. LOL

Picked out four more elm trees I need to clear off around the house, just depends how I feel tomorrow.

First cup of coffee has been poured. 55° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 69° with mostly sunny skies. Going to start putting weed killer down. Then a BBQ for the afternoon/evening.
Randy, Older than dirt is what I get accused of being. Last Sunday our oldest sun turned 53.
Drew, driving a super charged car is a great experience. My Sons Shelby Mustang has the feeling.
Good Morning All.

We aren't old, we are just wonderfully experienced...
that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

cooler cloudy weather has settled in for several days, not getting to 70 today.
Today's project with my friend is to try, for the last time, to get the steering wheel off my old Cub Cadet with a torch, after
breaking the plastic into little bits with a puller. Been frozen in the same spot for 48 years.
And then we will work on the water cart, plumbing a 55 gallon rain barrel for a DC pump and hose. Rube will meet Goldberg
and hopefully water will run.

I had fun driving the Jagyewar last night, very quiet, deceptively fast, spoiled slightly by a lot of tire noise due to high performance aggressive summer tires put on the car. Why would someone not put all seasons on it? What were they thinking?
But I know. The one BF Goodrich tire version they put on costs 147 bucks a piece, not bad for a 255/20 tire. But of course the tires that should be on it, Continentals or Pirellis (Michelin only has one aggressive tire for this car, I've owned it before, too noisy.) all cost in the 200-200 range. So they saved a hundred bucks by putting on the least expensive tires possible. I don't live in Florida, why would I want summer only tires? They look cool but add an avoidable whine and rumble. After 12 years and 72K miles, there was not one interior rattle in the car. Thank you Ford.

Today my friend and I will wash the car, go over it carefully, and try out a dvd in the rear player for the seatback screens. Need to find a really old one, most of my stuff at home is BluRay and that won't play on this old player. Maybe I should get a copy of 50 Shades of Grey and have that playing while my elderly dinner guests are riding in the rear. Now that would make the night memorable!

Having lived alone now for three years, and doing almost everything by myself, it is so nice to have a friend help, one who thinks like you do, well we both overthink things, and working as a team on things. I don't think I have to prove my self-reliance to anyone but gosh it's nice to have both the help and the company. Haven't met the right person yet, my current lady friend is just a good friend. Which works well for both of us. But it's not like she's setting me up with dates either...though through her I have met lots of locals, who all seem to do nothing but drink at parties. Wow do folks drink a lot here...

Let's see, Billy, the two Randy's, David/MFW, some of you are close enough to have sisters...:D
Kind, smart and not financially destitute.
Looks negotiable. Not like I'm any prize...

hmmm, kinda makes me feel like one of farmer's cows or chickens going off to auction...;)

54 going to 59 and rain again.

Coco's Frisbee field is now splash city. Funny how much faster she can run when my son's boxer, Charlotte, is pretending to race her for the Frisbee.

Had a good cookout at oldest son's and DIL's house. Ate too much.

Middle son coming by today to pick up Charlotte on the way back to NC.
