5 right now...high of, well...2 today which means right now is the highest temperature of the day. Tonight, a bone chilling -20 degrees.

Plans today...going to the Army-Navy store in Barre VT (if it's open) to get a couple blankets to leave in the truck. Maybe a quick stop at the store, but that's about it.

Watched the movie The Revenant" with Leonardo DiCaprio last night. Not a bootleg...something my step son-in-law got as a preview version...he works in the industry somehow.
Anyway, what a great movie! It's the story of Hugh Glass, an 1820's trapper who was mauled by a bear and left for dead. If that sounds familiar, there was another version a couple decades back called "Man in the Wilderness".
It's graphic, suspenseful and really engrossing.

Farmer, funny you should say that, I have been thinking of building a "Chuck Wagon" (why do I always think of food) with wood axels, hubs and wheels.

I'm wanting a chuck wagon and then a oh I guess a farmers wagon. I'd love to find an old Owensboro Wagon Company wagon. They were built about 30 minutes from here. Mine would just be for decoration as I don't employ horses. Any anything that stays here earns their keep. .

Have a birthday party to go to. Cousins son's first birthday. Then back to put out hay. Guess I better get going as I have two barns to migrate before I leave.

5 degrees may make it to 18 later. Cat does not want to got out. No plans. Going to pick up the grapple tomorrow AM early so we can be back in time for my neighbor to go to work at noon.

We celebrated Valentines Day early yesterday on my day off. Don't go to Panera bread to buy bread or cookies without deep pockets. The average loaf costs $10, and cookies go for $2 or more each. Ouch! They must import their flour from Ushuaia.

Finally saw the new Starwars movie, pretty good. Gets better at the end. Somehow, overwhelming ludicrous odds to save the day as usual. Reminded me of the very first movie. Back in '77 or '78, it has been a while forthcoming.

They come in both galvanized and bronze finish.

I plan to start changing out our 4 high pressure sodium lights with them.

they have the bronze one, lot more expensive, and I was fine with silver/galvanized against the red barn.
Seemed traditional to me. But I can see where the bronze one would be very attractive in other spots.

Was 14, now 13. Temp going in the wrong direction. Winds are strong. As long as the electric stays on, all is well.

I carry a cold weather sleeping bag in my vehicle in the winter, just in case.

Cleaned the pellet stove yesterday, so it's good for another month. Hose on my china made ash vacuum broke, was able to just duct tape it together. I don't vacuum hot ashes. Hose attaches to metal tank with thin plastic flange.

I was born and raised in coastal NC, I remember a couple of 12"-18" snows, and a bunch of 4"-6", but by and large a dusting to 2" is about the normal snowfall. Cold and very windy today, temp is falling through the low 20's, winds gusting to around 40 mph. Wind chill in the single digits. Near 0° tonight.
