Good Morning! 47F @ 8:00 AM. Friday 20 % Precip. Cloudy skies. High 54F. Winds light and variable.
Friday Night 80 % Precip. / 0.25. Rain showers early will evolve into a more steady rain overnight. Low 47F. Winds SE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 80%. Rainfall around a quarter of an inch.
Got almost 3/4" of rain yesterday and storms are lined up off the coast for at least another week. Good thing: We need the rain, and I've still got lots of inside jobs lined up.

TGIF!

64°F and no rain

Sears changed out the flat tire on the new mower yesterday and fixed the annoying squeak wife didn't like. Appears it wasn't properly greased when set up.

Be safe
Have a great day

45.6F and mostly overcast @ 12:00 ... headed back into the freezer starting tomorrow ...

Scored the stand for the second 55g day before yesterday, looks to be in decent shape. Barely managed to get it in The Woman's car to bring it home ... had to leave the two rear windows cracked open about 5" so the legs could stick out. Needless to say, with the outside temp in the 20's, the 20 mile ride home was a tad chilly ... probably should have taken the van ... :D Cleaned it up yesterday, now trying to figure out where I'll locate it.

Dropped by the LFS on the way home and picked up an Annubias, an Amazon Sword, a Sagittaria, a big bunch of Hornwort, and something that was sold as Temple plant but which I think is actually Ludwigia Repens (Red Ludwigia) Split the Annubias to propogate it, still need to do some trimming on the others to remove dead/dying leaves and stimulate growth.

After I got home I used the leftover beef roast to make some vegetable beef barely soup. I think it turned out well - The Woman was impressed ... no small feat to be sure. The Squeak liked it too (garlic, onion, curry and all) ... but then she likes those taco-flavored Doritos ...

Ammonia was down to 0.25 ppm yesterday ... hopefully it has hit 0 today. Tested the pH of the 55g for the first time as well ... it was sitting around 8.2, which is way, way higher than I thought it would be, considering that it was filled with (supposedly) softened well water. The softener must have been set to recharge that night and I filled the tank before it did.

Got the other filter cleaned out and set back up with the micron filter and D.E ... tank was crystal clear this morning. Also swapped out the hoses with new vinyl with a smaller I.D. to stop the minor leakage that was occurring.

Found a guy on craig's last night that had a nice looking L190 Royal Pleco for sale or trade ... need to text him and see what he's looking for.

Set up a couple of air tubes in the 55g to get some additional water movement. My Second Nature Whisper 1000 air pump is about at it's limit in it's present condition. Unfortunately the rebuild kits (diaphragms and "Silaflex" flapper valves) are NLA from the mfg. ... so while I'll keep an eye out for them, I'm probably going to need to think about getting an additional air pump.

Have a good day all.

Buppies congrats and well done !

RNG ... glad to hear you all are getting some much needed rain. May it continue until til the lakes and reservoirs are full and Kalifonia's cup runneth over ... :D

Drew ... another vote here for losing the wood for all the reasons previously stated. 40 years for PT lumber might be a stretch ... unless it's rated for ground contact. Even then ... Place is looking nice.

tp ... sounds like time well-spent  ... and don't forget pics on the shed ... ;)

Don ... might want to pull the lead on that mig and blow the liner out with some compressed air. I find with mine that when it sits for a long time without being used the wire on the outside of the roll gets corroded. Then after it get smooshed in the feed rollers, some of the corrosion gets dumped into the liner. With all the rain you've had recently it could be a possibility.

Kyle ... a heated home is most definitely a very good thing ... don't ask me how I know ...

This is same thing I was thinking. Steel wire with a very thin coating, sitting there for 2 years. Rusty on the inside. Unless you were feeding stainless steel wire with inert gas, welding on stainless.

It just broke daylight here maybe 40 mins ago, so you are ahead of the curve. If the early bird gets the worm, I guess the early tractor gets the firewood??? Somehow doesn't seem as much as a prize, but I suppose a heated home is a good thang.

Buppies, congrats! I was guessing you might only be about 39 years old in the first place..

Wifey made me coffee. Off today. Now I have to do my own chores.

Thanks sometimes I wish I was 39

Still @ 0.25 ppm ammonia :( ... it's like watching a pot of water, waiting for it to boil :D

It was 42 when I left this morning and 55 now, somewhere in there it warmed up nicely. Got a couple of inches of rain this morning and some hard wind. Had to pick up stuff when I got home. Tomorrow should be a really nice day, so wife and I are going to take the horses out for fun.

Buppies, Congratulations!!! I am impressed

Roy, glad you are back

Farmer, I must of missed it, where are you going this weekend?

Drew, I know it is a pain, but doing things right is worth doing them over

Good afternoon. 1725, partly cloudy, 61F with 80% humidity. Our high today was 70F, and tonight's forecast calls for a low of 49F with 10% chance of rain. Last night's storm was very windy and dumped lots of rain. I spent most of the day in the woods. Saw a couple of deer when I was in the shooting house, but no horns. Margie got in from her conference early and I hadn't cleaned up the mess from three days batching it:eek:

You guys have a good one,

Larro

Yeeee Ha! Played cowboy and rounded up and trailer 10 calves for auction. One was might testy and had to be rounded several time after jumping gates. Some were 700 lbs and you kind of had to move or be trampled. My parents should go with sheep like Eric, at least the loaders can't be injured as much during round-up.

Eric I have a few question on across the pond traditions. What is the purpose of a cracker at Christmas and do you'all really say Happy Christmas instead of Merry Christmas (like they do on Midsomers Murders).

What is your Nitrite level?
Probably off the chart ... :D

Actually, I dunno as I hadn't tested it yet. I did test the tap water for pH this afternoon for a baseline - it came in around 7.4 ...

The article/instructions I'm operating off of say to wait for the ammonia to drop completely to zero before starting to test for nitrite ... and I haven't/hadn't hit zero ammonia yet.

I suppose it could be the light I'm viewing the sample in ... but I've looked at it under several different (fluorescent/incandescent) light sources.

Or mebbe within the margin of error for the test kit (zero for all practical purposes, but since there's still a trace it shows 0.25 ppm - which is the lowest reading on the chart before zero)

The test kit is new, so that shouldn't be a factor.

Just took a sample for nitrite, so we should know in a few minutes ... ;)

Nitrite is 2.0 ppm ...

Hard for me to believe it is a year since I intruded into this Good Morning thread. At the time my love affair with compact tractors made me think I may have something in common, despite speaking at times an almost foreign language. Since then I have come to appreciate it is more than just tractors, it is the not too serious outlook on life, whatever that decides to throw at us.

As I don't have a Green Card, I'm not sure if Muhammed is going to let me stay on here after my guest year and use up more of his valuable server storage space with yet more pictures of sheep. I have already taken you through a complete year with the sheep, so anything I say in the future can only be repeating things.

Come to think of it, at my age I'm at the point where everything is likely to get repeated. Even so, if you could put up with me a little longer, I'd like to still hang around, so if Muhammed asks if you can tolerate a slightly cheeky Brit for another year, would you please put in a good word for me.

Good morning y'all. :)
