..., so I opened the closed in 'gate' one morning and right on the other side was Pepe Le Pu.
We had one several years ago that was making regular visits to the outside cat's food bowl every evening. It would walk up, start doing the bouncy skunk dance with his hind legs to tell the cat to take a hike, then dig in and help himself. We would watch this from just inside the door, with just a pane of glass separating us from it. It was both entertaining and disturbing. After a few days of this, I waited for him to come waddling down the hill and around the house, startled him and ran him back up the hill, and ventilated him away from the house.

They'd be much neater animals if they didn't smell so bad.

Good (Thursday) morning. Overnight Low of 16.6C and it's presently 23.5C, thin/high overcast & fairly calm.

Coffee with the Veterans, petrol for the ute & groceries all accomplished yesterday. After a quick lunch I decided to trim back a number of tree branches that attempted to tear off my hat & ear-protectors during Tuesday's mowing.

As a result, I really don't have much going on today.

That's about it, take care all.

Got a shingles shot yesterday and for the first time had a reaction.
Headache, a little nausea and stiff neck.
Sorry about the reaction. Hope you're feeling better soon.
I have debated getting the shingles. My mom wants me to.

Good Morning
36° with a forecast high of 55 under clear skies.

Yesterday’s trip to Palm Beach held no surprises other than the downpour while we were out of the airplane down there. Typical Florida shower, caught us by surprise and lasted 10 minutes. But it did catch us with the cabin and cargo doors open.

When I got home from the airport, UPS had delivered my DRO for the lathe, so I know what I’m doing today. I did print some adapters to let me use AA batteries in place of C cells, but that was about all I accomplished.

First order for today is breakfast with the professor, then I’ll get back and start on the lathe project. The 3D printer will likely be running in the background most of the day as well.

Not sure if the lathe will take all day, the cleanup and moving it is going to be more work than actually installing the DRO.
Popgadget, I just sent a Jet 13x40 to our surplus dept and it got auctioned off, unless another university personnel claimed it. It had had a new motor put in it about 4 years ago, and the spindle bearings sounded horrible. I probably could have fixed it, if I had the time, but too much going on. It did not have a DRO on it. I believe it was about 2012 model and it sure needed love. I have spent the hour on the phone with Jet, trying to get a part number, price and official quote sent to me. Once I got to the right person, she was helpful and knowledgeable.
That being said, we replaced it. I spec'd out a Taiwan lathe, sold by Kent USA. The same machine can be bought from Lagun rebadged. But I got a bigger 14x40 with a VFD drive, DRO, and a collet closer attachment for the spindle. I will give it a grade of 90. It had a few things that I've had to fix on it. It doesn't seem like much on paper, but a 14" machine is quite a bit more substantial with a bigger chuck nose and wider bed.

Son has first track meet tomorrow, last week's was frozen out. Only going to run the 400meter dash, because he has a hip flexor type muscle tenderness.

Prayers for our team, our Nation, Israel and Ukraine.

I have made an executive decision that the oil tank in my avatar is going to get a portable shelter over it for next winter. It will need to cover the tank and hose reel. 10'wide x 10' long with at least a 7' doorway which will be open all the time for ventilation.

I have debated getting the shingles. My mom wants me to.
For what it's worth, I would highly recommend getting the shingles vaccination (it's 2 'shots'; an initial one with a period of time before the second). I actively sought getting mine which, in Australia, depends on your age for receiving it.

An elderly parishioner at my Church had shingles and was in constant agony, just from a touch or her clothing brushing against her skin.

Lastly, how can you say 'no' to your mom? ;)

Good morning,
28° now

Today 02/27
Cloudy with rain and snow this morning changing to all rain for the afternoon. High 42F. Winds SSE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 100%. 1 to 3 inches of snow expected.

Tonight 02/27
Cloudy skies this evening will become partly cloudy after midnight. Low 34F. Winds WSW at 5 to 10 mph.

Yesterday’s ride for lunch was nice, did get some peeks of sun. This year’s crop of frost heaves and pot holes has bloomed nicely lol. Lots of sap buckets out, actually most around here use the bags instead of buckets but saying sap bags just doesn’t sound right 🙃. Sadly more and more fields and woods have survey stakes and tape and much open space is already converted to housing development, progress I guess. Lunch was good, we both had baked haddock and a cup of clam chowder.

No plans for today just putter around.

Enjoy your day everyone
