Good morning!!!!

Good Morning. 0500, light rain, 67F with 97% humidity. Forecast high of 70F with 20% chance of rain today, and a low of 60F tonight. There is one little band of showers on the entire radar, and it's right over the Larro Ranchero. It's been raining about 15 minutes and starting to get harder.

I got some scrap heating and cooling ducts yesterday and an old metal trash can. Was planning to do a mock-up of my rocket mass heater this morning, but that might have to wait on the weather.

Drew, stay safe. With this front stalled out and the jet stream making a loop down my way, you are in for a wet one. If you have your helper today, it wouldn't hurt to put some of your more water sensitive things upstairs. When it comes, it can come in a hurry.

You guys have a good one,

Larro

55 out this AM, which will be the high. We are under a lot of rain.

The hurricane which some had predicted to turn right towards us, bringing 10 plus inches of rain, is heading out to sea. We have been under the effects of a Nor Easter. Now, we are estimated to get upwards of two inches. Quite a significant drop and welcomed.

Stay safe all, have a great weekend.

good morning all, 2.09 inches since midnight...and it's coming down hard, lots of yellow on the radar all over the area.
I won't flood here, not like the folks down by the river. One reason I made sure I was at 34 feet above sea level. What will flood is the front and rear of my property, endangering the turtles (now they I probably should move...) and will leave a foot of water, or more, over my driveway until it goes down. And the rear, I don't want to think about the orchard. The house should be ok, though I do worry about the Generac being only raised up a few inches off the ground. This system will be a test to see if that was a good idea.

Frankly bummed about boating, turns out the guy with nice Sabreline near Annapolis MD accepted my offer, and then confirmed my original fear that the boat would not perform properly. It took me calls everywhere, including to a wonderfully helpful guy at the home office in Maine to send me a build sheet on the boat, and to my utter dismay, it did not have the engines the seller said it did. Had the original underpowered diesels that almost everyone opted to go up to models about 50hp more each. Big difference in boat performance and explained why the seller could not get his boat over 16 knots when it was supposed to do over 20 knots. I don't care about top end, it's what it will cruise easily at and the boat was totally misrepresented. Like going to look at a Mustang GT and finding out it had a six in it. Grrrr. I knew something was wrong, the listing broker was sure fuzzy on details, and kept saying "oh they all run like this". No. they don't. Well, going to continue to keep my eyes open. This is such a caveat emptor situation. No one tells you the truth... Wish I could afford a new boat and miss all this nonsense, but I can't, so the hunt continues.

Depending upon how the area looks later this morning, intend to drive an hour East to Swan Quarter, a local fishing depot, and try to get some fresh shrimp off the fishing boats there. And then we'll have a shrimp fry for dinner. If not, I have frozen shrimp. Not sure this is the best day to go traveling around with flooded roads.

Oregon breaks our heart. Prayers to the families, all those innocents lost to mental illness. Everyone wants to evaluate, classify and help the mentally ill before they do things like this, and we all know that is very, very hard to do. It likely would take an unacceptable police state to avoid all these tragedies and we don't want that either.
Places of public assembly (remember that constitutional right?) are becoming more dangerous all the time, too many soft targets.

rain is pounding on the roof. Still dark, wonder what I'll find when it gets light enough...if there will be water or grass out there.

fisher and paykel's interesting double level design happens to work perfectly in larger boats/yachts and they are seen quite often as a compact dishwasher in larger boats.
Really large boats/yachts have normal dishwashers, but the compact design of the F&P has been an industry leader. So there, when you put your coffee mug away, you can feel like you are on the ocean blue...

perhaps that's a stretch

I put a lot of cooking pots in mine so wanted the biggest interior I could find. Two Kenmore units, likely made by LG in China someplace, have worked fine for me for 15 years. Remember when an Amana was made in Amana?

54 headed up to 56 and still raining. Only got .75 more inches over last 24 hours, but intensity has gotten stronger today...Coco insists we play Frisbee every morning, so we got plenty wet today. Stocked up on some storm related food/water/batteries yesterday...Soundguy's Prep thread helped with good ideas.

Picked up the Bosch yesterday...feel like we got a good unit, and got $247 off, so happy with the deal. I'll install today. Don, I like that raised unit...bending over isn't as fun as it used to be.

Well, archery season opens tomorrow, but I don't think my bow likes the rain, so I might let it sleep late :).

55 this morning and headed to 62 today. Cloudy with a chance of rain less than 1/4 inch predicted.

Got the disc drug out yesterday everything still rolls. Now to grease and set it in the dirt and see if it'll cut. Have about 3 acres to till. Had to set out some hay yesterday and will probably feed hay for the next couple of weeks to let pasture grasses recover. Now that we have some rain. Still need to mow.

Events in Colorado aren't good. Sad it's come to this. But has anyone else noticed these things seam to only happen in gun free zones.

Stay safe and dry. All you easterners.

Good morning, 46F here in the southern most point of Canada, headed for a temperature of only 61F.

Good morning all. 56F this morning, sunny and light north breeze. Forecast for 80 at the state fair which I am going to in the next few minutes. I don't expect to do much else, bicycle wheel is trued as good as I think I can get it. Rim was in worse shape than I originally thought :( . will get the tire mounted and tested this weekend.

Good Morning! 53F @ 5:45AM. Sunny. High 88F. Winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph.

Drew, it's a darn good thing you know your way around a wheel house and an engine room because a lot of people don't, or at least pretend they don't. Patience, grasshopper!

The events in Oregon are tragic. How many more will it take to show that gun free zones only attract killers, and do nothing to stop the violence?

Yesterday's rain total was 0.12", barely enough to settle the dust on the driveway. Nothing more in sight for at least the next ten days.

What ever happened to the American names that they used to give to hurricanes? Hard to remember what to call one when you can't even spell it.

TGIF everyone!

Finally cooling down a little here. Tilled the garden testerday to prep for fall planting. I have about 90 days until the first frost to get in another crop.

Good morning! 62˚ heading to the mid 80's.

Drew we had a 1000 year rain in Houston when I was there, TS Allison. Houston is 42' above sea level and main street had 4' of water standing and flooded buildings. It all comes down to how fast the drainage is - most can not handle a quick 18" rain. Stay safe.

KevT we are half way through the FOK Rouxbe cooking class and getting to know all the secretes of nonstick oil-less cooking and all about how to compliment the different flavors. I would have never thought of some of the combinations of different foods and spices and the affects of acidic or alkaline on taste. The class ends in December and is self paced, we are a few weeks ahead of schedule. I'm getting filled on sample tastings.

Yeah, but Don, how does the food taste? I'm all for healthy eating, but not, in the immortal words of Hewie Lewis, if "two dollars worth is all that I can stand!".

Is it safe to say that the class consists of videos viewed on a computer? If so, can they be downloaded and viewed again later?

Trying to figure out what that means. Is it "just what the FOK am I eating?"

It truly taste good. I do not look at it as "Healthy Eating" I look at it as not eating unhealthy. As you change food your taste also change, it takes a few weeks that's why most take a sample and don't like it and never eat it again. My nephew has limited his tastebuds to chicken nuggets, chips and cookies (salt/fat/sugar). Everything else just taste nasty to him.

The class consist of many 4 - 7 minute videos.
You are graded on the cooking assignments you photograph and send in. Photos consist of different stages of cooking and describing the what and whys. Grading is tough and individualize with a lot of feedback.
The videos are available up to a month after the class ends in December.

i did not realize there is a correct way to cut each vegetable and all cuts are graded on consistent sizes. I had to buy a new Chef's knife after seeing how to pick out a good knife video, and cutting is much easier now and I am flying when cutting . . . and bleeding just a little . . .

Sseeloff, Actually now I know what I'm eating because now I add all the ingredients instead of trying to pronounce some of the labeled ingredients.:D

For those wondering what the Forks Over Knifes is, it does not mean no knife to eat meat, it means eating to stay away from the surgical knife.

RNG, I know what you are saying, cause I said the same thing 10 years ago, but healthy eating is just that. I am not a vegetarian (my wife is), but meat does not have to be with every meal and the taste of the food is awesome if it has the flavors you like. Again I don't care for the spices used in Indian cooking but other than that I am scarfing it up, plus I can pronounce all of the ingredients. But you do have to get your mind away from processed foods and think portions. Hence why a 300 pound steer on the hoof is enough beef to last me well over a year and our garden is getting bigger.

Yeah Don, proper tools for the job makes a big difference regardless what you are doing. Glad to hear you are enjoying the class.
