22F with snow starting to come down and the winds just howling @ 12:30, with gusts over 50 mph possible.
High temp hit 62.5F last night ... quite the plunge in less than 12 hours time.
Wind started howling late last night, was hearing trees crack and snap and then hit the ground after I got in bed last night around 04:30.
Productive day yesterday.
Fired off the wood burner first thing and disposed of all the crap that was in it - good suckage and no apparent leaks ...
Got the second set of shelving that was emptied the previous day moved out of the way.
Then started unloading the next set of shelves.
Got that all done and then moved those shelves out of the way, creating around 8' of clear space on the the north end of west wall.
Then started working on vacuuming the west wall.
Got the insulation in between 4 joists on top of the sill plate all pulled down and the cavities all vacuumed.
Woman came down to assist around that time and started moving stuff off the next set of shelves onto the now empty set that I had done earlier. She got that all done as well as moving some items out of the utility room into the family/rec room. Then did a bunch of vacuuming before She called it quits.
I unscrewed the straps from the clothes washer drain pipe and found there was enough flex in the pipe that I should be able to get a 1" thick piece of polyiso foam board behind it o the west wall. Replaced the screw on the middle strap with a longer one and blocked the pipe out with a scrap piece of 2 x 4.
Further down that line, near where it connects to the clean out, there is a break in the pipe with Fernco coupling on it. I should be able to trim off about an inch of the pipe ... which will allow me to move the pipe enough to piece in the last 16" wide section of polyiso that goes on the north wall.
Got the 8' section of the bottom of the west wall wire brushed and then scrubbed down with water and a scrub brush to remove the efflorescence.
Removed 3/4 plywood panel I had put up previously for the 200A fused disconnect switch for the electric service out to the barn:
Switch was never hooked up or mounted, it can be mounted on the stud wall once it's up.
Final task before knocking off was relocating/reorienting the gas valve.
Turned off the furnace and water heater around midnight just as the temps were starting to drop and then shut off the main valve.
Removed the valve (and plug) for the feed out to garage and reworked that so the valve was on a vertical leg. Even using "close" nipples it overshot the bottom of the floor joists (too high) Was short a couple of 90's and a close nipple to bring it back down flush with the bottom of the joists but I was able to get the valve reinstalled and all the new joints checked for leaks. Now I can just turn the valve off and install the 90's once I have them and extend the line.
Turned gas and furnace back on after that and re-lit the pilot on the water heater and made sure everything was operating normally. Then called it a day.
On the agenda for today:
Put out food and fresh (warm) water for the feral kitty.
Add insulation to cavities between floor joists that were cleaned out yesterday.
Add some more wire staples to the wires that are tacked to the sill plate on the west wall so they aren't hanging down.
Get at least one polyiso panel glued up, placed, and braced, maybe two ... if I can get the washer drain line trimmed.
Empty debris bin on whole house vacuum and get that cleaned out.
Bring another bag of trash up to go in the cans tonight.
Get the remaining four 2 x 4's by the front door hauled downstairs.
Probably start hanging the 3/4 copper hot water supply line (full temp) for the clothes washer and dishwasher.
See if I can't clear an area to build the next section of stud wall.
Beyond that just see what else comes up.
Temp now down to 21F and ground starting to turn white, winds still just howling.
Hope everyone is having a decent day ...
