Coffee tasting good, sounds like it might be a little warm outside in the sun ...
Woman made some pork in a green chili/salsa sauce yesterday to be served over rice, says it was too hot for Her (supposedly "medium" heat on the salsa) I thought it was pretty good. She just left to go find something She could tone it down with.
Have to go over later with the van and pick up what didn't sell at the yard sale.
Also need to go by Fisherman's Central and pick up a spool of clear 40 lb test monofilament (deer deterrent)
Last thing I did around back last evening was grab two buckets (a 3 and 5 gallon) of used cat litter and used it to plug up the two holes going into the groundhog burrow on the east side of the house. The one hole I had plugged previously and it didn't appear to have been disturbed. However the other hole showed signs of fresh excavations ... almost like they were prepping it for a short dash to the garden ...
Anyways I got that packed in and then watered it down real good with the garden hose. Will be interesting to see if they tried to dig it out this morning.
After I got that done, I loaded up the new sprayer with stick juice in the dump cart and went around and hit a bunch of stuff the deer have been browsing on: the two burning bushes, Japanese Cherry tree, Gingko tree (which they hadn't touched so far this year but got pretty good last year) all the Rose of Sharon plantings, milkweeds up by the shop (also not touched yet this year), and both the peach trees. They have been doing some trimming on the east peach ever since we changing the fencing around it (new fencing not as tall)
Hopefully that will keep them at bay. The juice is really nasty smelling, got to think that it doesn't taste any better. Fortunately the stink doesn't seem to carry.
Next will be to hit all the hosta and rhododendrons in the planting beds when I get a chance.
Woman mentioned that the weed block fabric had already gotten blown on the side I didn't weigh down with boards.
Have run into another issue with that already: as someone noted (think it was Mostly ?) the soil here fluffs up very nicely. Well, putting the weed block on fluffed up soil which then compresses doesn't do much for keeping the fabric straight ...
So now that I have the box blade on, I think I will spend the afternoon running over it and leveling it out and packing it down. Soil has good tilth, so digging planting holes shouldn't be too difficult.
Forecast says rain/thunderstorms for next couple of days, then a period (Wed - Fri) with dry weather and cooler temps (highs in the low 70's to low 80's) Will try to get things planted during that period.
Hope everyone is having a good Sunday ...
